October 19, 2007

My dental procedure went swimmingly yesterday and, two hours later, I was having dinner at The Budapest, none the worse for wear (with the trifling exception of a numbed jaw and an excruciating earache), chowing down on a delicious chicken paprikash and my apparently equally delicious anesthetized tongue. Halfway through our meal, in walked special features producer Ivon Bartok with his sister and friend. Like most of us at Stargate, Ivon loves his schnitzel, and The Budapest serves up a terrific assortment (chicken, veal, and pork), all featured in their imposing Transylvania Wooden Platter along with cabbage rolls, sausage, fried potatoes, spaetzle, and bull’s blood cabbage (check out the October 15th vid). After pleasantries were exchanged, Ivon got down to business with: “Did you check those episodes for anymore bloopers?” Right. I’m on it. My blog entry on Reunion should give him everything he’ll need to dig up the deleted footage on the episode. Now, I have to look into This Mortal Coil and Kindred I. The other producers are doing the same for their episodes. Should be a great assortment that, hopefully, will not get bogged won by legalities. Hey, at least you know we tried.

Well, some of you have been asking and, yes, the Live +3 numbers are finally in and we received a fairly decent bump in comparison to most shows (in short, it suggests that fans of Atlantis are more likely to make use of Tivo and DVR than fans of the average show), bringing us up to around a 1.4 for the premiere. Lots of good news within the numbers as well, but I’ll leave that for the official press release.

Another early blog entry today as I’m off to watch that Ark of Truth mix this afternoon. Rob has been working very hard on it and is by now, I’m sure, exhausted and anxiously looking forward to our input. And speaking of Rob’s hard work and some input, do swing on by after Doppelganger airs tonight and let us know what you thought. A lot of great visuals and fun/creepy sequences in tonight’s Atlantis episode, written and directed by Robert C. Cooper.

Today’s pics: None today.

Today’s video: Quick, Carl! Click on the date to see a video of your buddy chowing down. No, your OTHER buddy.

Today’s mailbag:

Anonymous #1 writes: “Any favorites you've gone back to more than once?”

Answer: I keep telling Fondy that we need to get out and try more restaurants because, inevitably, if we find something we like, we go back to it. On our standing rotation right now: the hand cones at Tojo’s, the chef’s menu at Fuel, the deep-fried spicy tuna rolls and the Meguro-avocado crepe at Yuji’s, the chicken liver pork fondant at Bistrot Bistro, the dim sum pork cheek at Sea Harbour Seafood Restaurant, the dinner sweet egg yolk dessert buns at Sea Harbour Seafood Restaurant, the curry cutting noodles with barbecued pork at the Sha Lin Noodle House, the house calmare and the corn-cheddar ice cream at Reckado’s, the sweet soy pork belly at Northern Chinese Delicacy, the premium cut short ribs at The Soeul House, the grilled gyu-tan and house made tofu at Zakkushi, the smoked meat sandwich at Phat, the wine chicken at Long’s Noodle House, the Vietnamese sandwiches at Au Petit Café, the spicy dynamite rolls at Aki’s, the chicken shawarma at the Babylon Café…to name a few.

Amz writes: “Hope the dentist thing goes well, is that following up on your peppercorn incident?”

Answer: Yes, indeed, it is. See how things get layered in early and paid off late? Did you note that keen bit of foreshadowing? Clearly, this blog rewards regular readers.

Blueb writes: “Do you ever eat at McDonald's or other fast food joints?”

Answer: I have been known to sample a Quarter Pounder with cheese on occasion.

Anonymous #1 writes: “You apparently have a few issues with Joe Flanigan…”

Answer: Apparently? Based on two whole answers to questions posted on this blog, one a fairly innocuous response to an equally innocuous question (Have you ever discussed other actors with Joe? Nope.), the other an arguably more pointed reply to the suggestion that we, the show’s writer, are pushing for a more earnest John Sheppard - a suggestion that necessitated a response because we, in fact, have taken great pains throughout this season to avoid doing just that. The latter may seem like some sort of slapdown to you but it was, in my mind, a perfectly reasonable response to a comment that engendered some inaccurate assumptions and criticism of the writing staff on the part of certain fans. Just setting the record straight.

Squeakiep writes: “Did Peter DeLuise direct any episodes in season 4?”

Answer: He did not.

Prakash writes: “I am wondering if you ever had a vegetarian meal?”

Answer: Vegetarianism? Is that some sort of religious movement?

Emily writes: “What are your typical breakfasts/lunches like?”

Answer: As I write this, I am eating my breakfast which is comprised of low fat yogurt, protein powder, ground flaxseed, a banana, and strawberries.

Anonymous #2 writes: “what's your favourite charity or charitable cause?”

Answer: Anything animal-related.

Dovil writes: “It's like how I heard that every time Joe F comes up to the offices with an idea that you guys blast him with a high pressure water hose while Marty G yells 'Release the dogs!' and cackles madly.”

Answer: Yeah, I wanted to use a flamethrower but MGM legal advised me against it.

P.S.: To those fans who will invariably read more into this than is there, I just want to make it clear that I was only joking and did not consult MGM legal on the subject. Though, to be fair, the part about me wanting to use the flamethrower on him is true.

Anonymous #3 writes: “The pig parts? Disgusting.”

Answer: No, actually, quite delicious.

Tesajb writes: “Did you know that the color purple launched my career in law?”

Answer: Civil law I take it?

Susan W writes: “Any possibility we might learn more about the Furlings in Atlantis (s5 if not s4)? In a non-joke episode?”

Answer: Sorry. Season four will be Furling-free.

Anonymous #4 writes: “Ronon and Keller share a smooch not to far down the road?”

Answer: They do?

Anonymous #5 writes: “I was wondering if you have called Joe Flanigan yet to tell him that people are freaking out on your blog and (this time) it's ALL HIS FAULT, and that he is never allowed to go to Australia ever again?”

Answer: Well, I spoke to him a couple of days ago and sent him an email yesterday afternoon but, believe it or not, this topic never came up. Instead, we ended up discussing ratings and ADR. Go figure.

Tauri Sith writes: “Hmmm... this week is "spirit" week at school. (sarcasm)Fun(/sarcasm). However, Tuesday is Superhero/villan day... who should I go as?”

Answer: Baron Destructo. Who else?

What is the demographic breakdown of the people who watch SGA in the US? I assume that it must be sort of 18-35, with all the references that you give to watching it over the net and on DVR. What is that, by the way?

Vern said...

Joe,

Hope you're enjoying the Ark of Truth mix. Say hello to everyone there. Rob must be freaking out by now, eh? Brad must be cooling him off, telling Rob 'you're ok. It looks good.', etc. Anyway, I'll be back with praises for the creepy 'Doppelganger'. Hopefully, Joe F. didn't kill anybody due to excess fright. Hehe.

You said something last month about no romance outside of McKay/Brown. Care to take that back? After watching Jewel's Q&A on SciFi (which is just filled with clips giving away a ton of spoilers, actually all of those videos do), it's quite apparent that there's definitely something romantic going on between Ronon and Keller. (As for the kiss that somebody else mentioned, it's an almost kiss, but it's close enough.) Since Jewel, David, Paul, and Joe have all said there would be a Keller romance, and we can see it for ourselves on SciFi.com, how can you continue to deny the romantic aspects of this season? Not to mention substituting "romance" for "inconceivable" in that line from The Princess Bride.

Also, how do you plan on explaining Ronon shaving his head in season 5? (Joe F and Jason's mother confirmed that Jason did shave his head.)

Thank you for such a wonderful episode in Reunion. Hopefully the good episodes will continue.

Vern said...

Oh, did I mention that Lulu looked a little greedy there showing off for Carl in the vid? Hungry, hungry dogs. Not to mention, absolutely adorable. It's a good thing when you outrageously spoil those dogs of yours.

If we're lucky enough to get a season 5, and season 5 happens to include the Genii, will we ever get to see more of Sora? And if so, will she make amends (or the opposite) with Teyla?

Hiya Joe
Glad the dentist visit went well. Doppelganger rocked!!!! Oooh such great Shep whump and the story was fantastic! Some funny bits, some very creepy bits, some bits that make you leap out of your chair in fright and Joe F does bad very well(purr). And the fight scene was really well edited. Oh and Kellers response to Rodneys's dream about Carter was just hilarious. And Kellers face during the 'Alien' homage was brilliant and Rodney's little tale of when he saw Alien.Awwww and sweet Dr Z too. oooho yeah and Wraithy Shep in Teylas dream...yum! Sorry I'm going to stop now LOL.I think that may well go down as one of my faves this season.

A flamethrower, Joe? Have you any idea of the amount of re-decorating that has to be done after someone goes running around with one of those? For crying out loud! Ash, soot, burn marks blossoming all over ths walls, possible smoke damage from the crisping of the intended target...not forgetting the collatoral damage! *tuts and shakes a finger* I know it's big, loud and purty but you shouldn't go using one in an enclosed space. Honestly...boys and toys...

*thinks*

Besides, isn't Joe F's hair flame retardent as well? I mean, wind, rain, sun, sand - nothing touches that hair! Why should flame be any different! Just saying - sorry if it bust a bubble there!

*tongue now being removed from it's firm postion within cheek*

Glad dentist went okay. I hate not feeling my mouth - last time I ended up taking a chunk outta my cheek so hoping that you didn't end up doing yourself too much in the way of damage!

Please let us know your (general) view on the Ark of Truth mix - never ask for specifics, I won't, but generalistic opinions? Please?

Til later, after Doppleganger!

Don't play dumb with us. Screen caps are all over the net. The oogling eyes, the coy smiles, Keller's blushing cheeks, then the old smackeroo. Then add Jewel's squeeing about certain Keller/Ronon scenes in her latest interview.

*changes channels before I puke*

Glad the rating numbers look good and can't wait to watch tonight's episode.

When Ronan first appeared on the show he told Sheppard and Teyla the wraith attempted to feed on him and just stopped. It appeared to me that Ronan may have some kind of physical immunity. No explantion or further investigation was done. Is this something that will be addressed later on?

Oh I can't wait for the Ark of Truth to come out.

Counting the hours to dopperlganger as I lay here on the couch sick and with I think a fever, is 101.6 F bad? ( I'm used to Celsius but too sick to bother with formula) The thermometer seems to think so, because is making an annoying sound. Damn flu season!

Take pictures tonight!
If I ever visit vancouver I'll have to try that restaurant sounds deliciouse.

Jason shaved his head? well good for him, he's a daddy now has to look the part, plus babies like pulling hair so.

Oh!!! I forgot! Beckett rule last night on the Red soxs game, Husband was so happy to have his team still on the championship he said (and I quote) "Beckett is a sexy man!" ...hmm....should I be worry?

I would like you to enlighten me on this very worrisome situation.

No spammers lately?...makes me sad

Just my opinion here, but I think people should lay off the Joe F. vs. Joe M. thing. Even if...and I emphasize IF because none of us having any real way of knowing...you two don't get along...SO WHAT?

I mean, how many posters here who work in an office of more than, oh, say two, can claim they get along splendidly with every single one of their colleagues?

I know in my corporate life, there are those I like and respect, those I don't like but still respect, and a few that I neither like nor respect, but still have to work with.

So who cares if they are best buddies or not? They make some great TV together, and that's all that matters to me!

1) yay on relatively happy news for live+3 numbers.

2) Its funny you ask if vegetarianism is a religious movement, I am vegetarian for religious reasons, but I have other reasons for maintaining the diet. I am just wondering if you ever tried some mock meat dishes at asian restos, since there is a large east asian population in Vancouver. There are two such places here in Montreal where I go to from time to time.

3) Vegetarianism was a religious movement that started thousands of years ago, when an alien from Vega system came down and said onto us"thou shall not eat anything of the animal kingdom". It was good, but then a schism occured a few years ago, and a new heathen religion has started, Pastafarianism, you may have heard of it? Surronding the flying spaghetti monster?

1.4 for Adrift! Cool news.

We're spreading the word, Joe, to watch LIVE, and watch both airings of the episodes LIVE.

Yet...I still run across the random messages on the net from fans saying they didn't know the new season had already started!

Maybe...they're stuck in a time flux continuum?

Or something...

Have a great weekend, Joe.

Ouch, a dental appointment. Sounds like my orthodontic appointments.

My dad finally saw Reunion and it's now his favorite Atlantis episode. It's the only one that he hasn't had any complaints about, so, good job!

Please answer my questions. 1) Have you ever eaten kishka? If you have, did you like it? 2) Who is your favorite Star Wars character?

Thanks!

a 1.4 for the premier? yay! :D

i still think a 1.2 wasn't that bad, considering scifi making atlantis air against 1st run big shows and making it air so late (for me at least) that i have to take a nap in the day to make it to 10.

i'm hoping this shows scifi that atlantis is alive and well and needs to be renewed! ;) :D

very flannigan related blog questions i see =/

i guess people don't realise that if Joe Flannigan really hated it at Bridge Studios/Atlantis Production or if anything under handed towards him was going on, he just wouldn't do the role he has accepted.

with that being said i personally am looking forward to your next episode transcript/explantions, This Mortal Coil correct?

Hey Joe,

I take it you don't want me to write the story then? that's a bummer, heck I have the story in my head and it just wants to get out, what should I do? it is a AU story and a fanfic too, but then I just had to ask you first if it was OK with you guys if I were to write it.

I really hope you don't mind, maybe you could let Joe F and Rachel know about it and see what they think before I start writing? heck I'll even give you my email if you like so we can talk it over there if that will help.

though I'm thinking now that no news is good news though I just want to be sure it is OK to write the story, which I have at this time titled it The Missing Mirror Home

Dear Joe, I'm gonna say this now and I've been containing my for since I saw Doppelganger on Itunes. I was very fortunate. In my opinion. I like the other episode too. I think the actors and crew did an awesome job. The CGI is off the chart in my opinion and please send kudos to everyone.
I have to admit though that I especially love Doppelganger. I've watched so much I lost count. I think that everyone did any awesome job, but JF was outstanding. My favorite Shep episode so far. It's still early n the season. I also got to see the Infanity special and TV Guide Channel. I loved that too. I can't wait to see Midway for the awesome sparring match. LOL.
Man, there is so much I'd like to say, but it might take up a whole page. LOL.
I won't give out spoiler because I know the ep has less than a half an hour to go, but I have to say that I'm really enjoying this season.
BTW. I love that chinese take out dish. ROFLMBO!!! That is tooo cute.
I don't know if you'll anwer this or not, but JF mentions that RL was due anytime when he was in Australia. Did she have it yet? It's so funny having 3 babies born with in months of each other. I hope you build a nursery. LOL Thanks. Scifan

And hats off to Rachel for that scene in the infirmary.

After watching Doppelganger I felt cheated. Below are just a few observations other’s may not and I’m sure most will not agree. Let battle commence!
The premise was a slight re-hash of Cold Lazarus (yes I know the argument that these entities will exist around the universe) with the twist of jungle not desert and the entity having domain over its victims dream’s feeding on their insecurities as opposed to being altruistic and taking on corporeal form.
I kept feeling that the story could have held more scope for the actors and that ‘Bad Sheppard’ could have been utilised more to create the reaction he seemed to get from his victims, apart from leering menacingly at people.
I liked the scene where Dr Kate Heightmeyer died, as at first I was unsure whose dream it was. I thought it was Teyla’s but enjoyed the juxtaposition of the outcome. The old wives tale of if you die in your sleep you wake up dead (that’s not possible I know) was used to good effect.
The ways that Sheppard and Keller were drawn to the crystal, was it just them in particular or could it have been anyone who got close enough?
Poor Sheppard I feel that his friends reaction to his image being used by an intelligent entity for its own purposes a bit over the top, unless they found it hard to distinguish between dreams and reality and that was part of it’s malevolence.
I take it that when Sheppard was defibrillate at the end, that they meant just to administer an electric shock to his body. Because if they were trying to restart his heart they had the paddles a bit too low!!

Good episode tonight. I liked the creepiness and it seemed like the entire episode had less lighting than in previous to add to the atmosphere. Loved seeing a Freddie Kruger type of storyline. He's one of my favorite bad guys. Bad Sheppard...I like a little badness mixed into my heroes.

I expected more out of Rodney's dreams actually. After his encounters with the whale type animals before and then tonight's with the explanation of his Dad reading Moby Dick to him to explain his nightmares didn't seem to totally work for me. The scary clown was a nice touch.

The climax was great. I really liked that a lot. Good fight scene and I absolutely loved Rodney coming in when he did. That was great.

Good episode. Congrats to you and everyone else for a job well done. Looking forward to next week.

One observation before I forget...it seems like season four will be a rough one for Sheppard from what I've read. Not a bad thing...I'm looking forward to getting to know this character even better.

Send everyone a big 'Thanks' from this fan.

It was great to get to watch Atlantis "live" tonight instead of taped. The joys of day shift! "Doppelganger" was terrific--half the time (or more) I wasn't sure what was real and what was somebody's dream. Joe F. did the "sociopath" bit very nicely indeed! All in all, wonderfully creepy, I thought.

Fun at the dentist's, huh? I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one with a needle and someone else's hands in my face today. 'Cause misery loves company, yes she does.

Coupla' questions: when Sheppard was fighting pseudo-Sheppard, who was Joe F fighting? Do you know what kind of effects were used for that; i.e., someone in a really good wig, or CGI-ing Flanigan's face over theirs, or what?

Oh, and— you guys really do hate doctors, don't you? O_o

However, there is one thing I was wondering about. McKay mentions his father...and it got me thinking. We have heard him talk about his father a number of times - but we have never heard him talk about his mother. Are we going to learn about her at some point?

Kudos on the writing staff, director, special effects and the cast on DG! A very cool, entertaining episode that had a ton of team! As far as the effects, that is some of the best 'twinning' I've seen, the fight between evil!Shep and Shep was amazing, it was very smooth and very well choreographed.

Extra props to Joe Flan for making evil, very, very sinister. An awesome episode and a cool look at each person's fears and the one about Sheppard failing his friends and people, very on the mark.

Great job, creepy and fun!

Hi Rob Cooper,

Ok, so I watched Doppelganger. It was a decent episode. I have some criticisms of the story, but I also have a huge amount of praise for the direction and visual conception of the episode and scenes. But enough of all that. It's only Atlantis.

Let's talk Arc of Truth. First, when do you think Arc of Truth might be released? Are you satisfied with the way the Ori are wrapped up or do you think it feels rushed? We know that Jack O'neill doesn't appear in Arc of Truth. Do you think that really makes sense given the scope of the story and the events that must happen? It's been confirmed that Morgan Le Fay will be making an appearance in the movie. Is there a chance that we'll see any other Ancients? Maybe even Oma? It's also been teased by Joe Mallozzi that we may even be seeing "an enemy we thought long vanquished" or some such. Could that maybe, hopefully be Anubis? Cause that would be cool. The interference of the Ori is one of the only plausible ways I can see the will of the Ancients regarding Anubis' and Oma's sentence( for lack of a better term)being subverted. Carter is also said to be a full colonel in both movies. Can you either confirm or deny the prevalent fan hope/dread that Mitchell will also be receiving a promotion in order to maintain the rather muddled status quo? Are there any other tidbits, spoilers, or teases that you'd be willing to share about Arc of Truth?

And what about Continuum? Will you at least speculate on when we may get to see the movie? Are there more SG-1 movies being planned for next year? Is Richard Dean Anderson going to be in them?

This comment is for Rob Cooper--

I know it's an actor issue, but is there any chance that in future SG-1 movies you guys can get Chris Judge to cut his hair? Teal'c should be bald. In fact, hair in general on Stargate has been a problem lately, but Teal'c's hair is the worst.

Evening Joe,

Quick question you may not be able to answer but maybe able to get an answer to(or someone else may already have it).

Why has Sci-Fi 'delayed'(cant come up w/ a better word) the air time by approximately 5 minutes both last week and this week?

I am getting rather frustrated as I have missed the endings since I have another 'Must Tape' show in the slot immediately following Atlantis.

Oh, Joe, will you never learn.

The actors can do no wrong and TPTB can do no right.

I can't believe I almost forgot to comment on the episode.

I love the eerie dreamscape mortal peril fell during the spooky month of the year. Did you know it would air in Oct.?

Joe F. was great as evil Sheppard. Not only did he own the episode in a good way, the Sheppard battle scene at the end was great.

McKays 11th hour rescue of Sheppard was the icing on the cake. Very very suspensful, very awesome.

Props to Coop for a masterful interweave of dream/reality sequences. Eventually I was just sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see a "twist".

Vfx were awesome. The Moby Dick references throughout were great, and the cg Moby Dick was perfect. I love the McKay boat scene. Bravo to all the writes, post production, cast, and crew members that had a hand in making this awesome episode!

Hi Rob and Joe!! Was Doppelganger an idea for a SG-1 episode that had been shelved? It felt more like SG-1 than Atlantis, what with all the commissary scenes, Lorne in the isolation room, the long boardroom scene for exposition, all the infirmary scenes. I kept expecting to see Silar in the bed next to Ronon, LOL!

I liked it, I just think SG-1 would have done it better.

Can't wait for the movies!! Will there be any trailers for them to tease us with??

Excellent episode, this Doppelganger! Not a false step anywhere, IMO, especially since I found myself wondering at the beginning of each scene whether it was real or part of somebody's dream. I love it when you guys play with our heads like that. Season 4 thus far rocks.

I won't miss Heightmeyer. The touchy-feely too-caring was just too precious. Good riddance (apologies to the actress).

And Ronon without hair is just... wrong.

Doppelganger was really an amazing episode. I could go on and on about how the different fears of each character but that would be a really long post. As it is this is going to be long-ish. (for me)

OMG, I can't believe you did that to Hieghtmier. The image of the fall was breath-taking and a little frightening.

Lorne used to sleepwalk? Heh.

Rodney keeping his distance, physically from John in the conference room was amusing.

John's guilt over the events seemed genuine and the final fight scenes were great.

John trying to save Rodney and having to be saved himself was a wonderful John-Rodney moment.

I also loved the finally scene with them all sitting at the table together, unable to sleep. The city scape was beautiful.
Again, great episode.

First off, loved the video of "feeding time." Four dogs must be a handfull.
Doppleganger was an awesome episode. Certainly in the top 5 episodes in 3+ seasons. And I agree with everyone who says more of Keller.

Anonymous said...

So, why keep every light on in Atlantis if they only have one (fastly depleting) ZPM?

I thought Doppleganger was terrific. Joe F. really nailed all of his scenes, as did everyone else, and I was really happy that this episode seemed to dig a little deeper into everyone's psyche and establish more of their background. Just wonderful character growth as the team really seems to be coming together smoothly (albeit after another doctor is taken away).

my two fave moments (and i had a lot of scenes i enjoyed a lot) were, 1- the whale eating the boat, and 2- sam (and keller) being at the table at the end.

each ep i've seen (4 now), i grow to like each character more. for this ep, my sheppard appreciation grew.

I think I was one of the half dozen or so people that did not see Doppelganger because of the iTunes goof. That just made the anticipation so much more tantalizing! I wasn't disappointed. I love poking around in the dark corners of the mind, and what happens where we dare not go when we're awake. On first viewing, it is one of the top 3 or 4 Atlantis episodes for me. I think it will stay there after many viewings, too.

My thanks to everyone involved with the making of the episode. A 12 out of 10 from this fan!

To answer someones question.. Ronon/Keller share a smooch...From the PICTURES someone posted... It looks like they are interrupted or just don't kiss lol. SO thats why he said 'THEY DO?' haha
Okay. on to my question...is this lil flirtation between Keller/Ronon a way to FINALLY make ronon get over his wife. Because frankly I don't want to hear him talking about how 'hes not ready.' and stuff.. -_- So this is a great way (And mind I say it would be great writing) to make Ronon finally MOVE on?

Hi Joe!

First time commenting. (Finally!) "Doppelganger" was fantastic! I admit I was one of the people who were kind of weary on Carter being in Atlantis, but so far, I think her being there is nice change. No offense to Torri Higginson (I miss her so), but it's nice to see new faces. Everything else was great too; the humor and the action got me the most. I can't wait for the rest of the season!

Also, if you've ever been in California, do you have any recommendations to good candy/chocolate factories in N. or S. Cali?

Anyways, great work, as always! Can't wait for more!

Thank you also for the John and Teyla moments in this episode. They were beautiful. The hug was so touching. If it is not too much trouble, it would be great to hear RCC's thoughts on these moments.

Also loved the clown. :)

An all around outstanding episode. Kudos to all involved!

Hi, first-timer here. Just had to drop by and say Doppelganger was wonderful! This is the first season I'm watching (my roommate gave me a crash course in all things SGA with her boxed sets of seasons 1-3) and I'm really enjoying it. The characters are terrific and the writing is good stuff. I think it says a lot that SGA is half my weekly TV viewing.

Thank you and everyone for some wonderful entertainment!

Question for you...a friend of mine caught it early on ITunes and said that JF played 4 different roles in the episode, is this true?

LOVED tonight's episode. Probably my favorite yet this season!

And even though I'm a skeptic when it comes to personal relationships between characters (often they are done badly or unrealistically), the spark of something I saw between Teyla and Sheppard tonight played out well.

Actually, overall, I'm incredibly satisfied with how all the relationships on Atlantis are working out. Having Carter there makes it feel like SG-1 isn't really gone forever... Her transition to Atlantis is so good you almost don't realize she wasn't always there.

I also enjoyed the call back to Cold Lazarus and Rodney's "I am my own science team" line. =D

The only thing I'm confused about is why the alien entity had such evil intentions. Unlike URGO, who just wanted to experience new things, this entity seemed bent on their destruction. But to what end?

Yes, yes, Civil. (Although we do do some work on the civil side of criminal cases) Criminal law is interesting, but civil law is far more vast and the body of knowledge that has been built around it is quite extraordinary. Notably, the scientific and medical research that has been conducted around auto defects or auto accidents in general keeps me enthralled for hours on end.

Actually, thanks be given to the Trans-Canada Highway system for discovering a serious auto defect in the 1980's, (which was blatantly ignored by the manufacturer) making it possible for those left with permanent and debilitating injuries to recover and move on with their lives.

I'm also currently volunteering about 10 hours a week at a private non profit firm which does a little bit of everything. Yes, I have very, very, long days >.<.

Anyway, I'm off tomorrow morning on a 3 hour drive in the rain to help my family do a remodel and visit a friend. I'll miss the internets!

LOL whoops I just watched the vid..

Reminds me of the time I was sitting on my kitchen floor going through my file cabinet and started hearing loud crunching noises behind me.

Typically hearing my cat eat isn't something that warrants much attention, but it seemed unusually loud.

I looked back toward the front door (which I had left ajar to let in some fresh air) where the food bowl is and instead of seeing my cat, I saw a giant rat, aka adolescent opossum gleefully feasting on my cat's food.

My husband and I had a hard time trying to shoo the stupid thing out the front door with a broom and a mop. It did NOT want to leave that food.

Opossums are freaky I tell you.

John and Rodney always save one another. =) God I love them. And the team banter at the beginning! At this point, Doppelganger and Reunion are the best episodes by far for this season.

An awesome episode.. season 4 is off to a great start. Doppelganger is sure to be one of my top favorites from the show, and awesome job to everyone involved for making it.

And especially to Joe F for nailing all of his scenes, he did the "evil" part really great.. the looks, the taunting. The emotion most done only with his expression in his eyes when he tries to deal with everything that is happening around him, was just incredible acting from his part..
The fight scene between the two Sheppard's were very well done.
Can't wait to see the rest of the season. So of course I'm also hoping for the show to get renewed for you guys as well..

Just popping in to give my thoughts on Doppelganger...

Simply put, I loved this episode. From what we knew of the plot, I was expecting it to be a good Sheppard episode - and it was. But it was also a fantastic team episode.. to me very reminiscent in that way of great episodes like Sateda and Tao of McKay where, even though the focus of the story is on e.g. Ronon or McKay, the story impacts the whole team and offers us so many wonderful glimpses into the team's relationships and their every day life. I loved the banter on the planet in the tease, I loved Teyla hanging out in the infirmary to keep Sheppard company, I loved the team meeting up for meals and chatting about dreams and telling stories from their youth, Sheppard and Ronon sparring in the middle of the night - just great moments that really give us a glimpse of the close friendships between the team and what their life is like when they're not on missions.

The episode was incredibly atmospheric with the dream sequences very well done.. spooky in a rather disquieting way. I love how you captured the odd nature of dreams, how things can change suddenly and without explanation - Ronon and McKay appearing in and out of Teyla's dream, she turning around and Sheppard being right behind her when a minute ago he was at the table; Ronon walking through a doorway and finding himself in a forest.

Actually - here's a question for Rob's Doppelganger Q&A: How did you film that scene where Ronon walked from an Atlantis corrdior into the forest?

It was incredibly well done and I can't work out how on earth you managed to film it so that he walked through an Atlantis doorway, into a forest, and then the camera pans around to reveal nothing but more forest behind him. An incredibly atmospheric touch.

I thought the acting was great in this episode and of course Joe in particular, getting to have fun playing Good Sheppard and Bad Sheppard! He did an awesome job in this episode and one of the most powerful scenes for me is where Sheppard is walking down the corridor, believing that Rodney is dead. He just looks utterly devastated and disbelieving. Incredible stuff.

Anyhooo.. I could ramble on for hours more about this episode but I've probably taken up far too much space already so I'll finish with "THANK YOU!!" for all involved in making this awesome episode and a couple more questions for Rob:

Who doubled for Sheppard in the end fight scene? Was it BamBam?

Ronon's fears were interesting.. a fear of being alone again was very telling, and fear of being betrayed by those he has come to trust (poignant considering the events of Reunion the week before) but the fear of being buried alive is interesting.. can you give us your thoughts on that, on what you were thinking when writing that scene? I wondered if it had to do with a fear of feeling trapped (something that's pretty dangerous for a runner)?

How long did it take to film the Sheppard vs Sheppard fight scene?

Thanks again! :D

Odd thing - I was just thinking that we hadn't seen the new uniforms yet. Apparently the difference isn't all that great. And, since 'tits haninging out' is one of my pet peeves, they must not be hanging out that far because I haven't noticed.

It's funny what annoys people. *shrugs*

Well, I am glad I read the comments today. I thought we were getting video of Ivan and, cute as he is, I wouldn't have taken time to load that video. However, if it is the Lulu, etc, it will be worth the time.

As to the episode .....

Cool.

Absolutely cool.

Joe F. played evil very well. "Great" evil is not over-the-top menace (forvive me, but like Anubis), but the ever so slight nasty turn that people can take from their normal selves. We all have it that within ourselves to be evil but, hopefully, choose not to do so.

Given that the episode touched on my two great fears - being buried alive (thank you Edgar Allan Poe!) and falling from great heights (9-11 and jumping as an actual rational alternative under the circumstances)- it's fright factor was very high with me.

My favorite scene didn't deal with that however.

It was when Shep was whumping Shep, "good" Shep got to the point that he was refusing to try and fight back further. First, given Shep personality, *not fighting back* was a difficult choice and reflects growth in that character.

As great as that was, the growth in Rodney was even better. Yes, he has volunteered to do something dangerous before but never appeared to have his heart in it.

Last night, when he made his presence known to "evil" Shep, he did so with power and courage. His attitude was very Shep or Ronon-like, not typical Rodney.

I compared it to his rescue of Shep in the first season episode on the desert planet with the thousands year old Wraith. Then, he was firing wildly and screaming to Shep "What do I do?". He did *show up* to the fight to help Shep, but didn't have a clue how to handle himself. In Doppleganger, he not only showed up, but was a far stronger and far more prepared adversary for "evil" Shep.

Great character growth ....

Firstly, you might wanna tell your actors to stop talking at conventions - it seems that some people cant tell the difference between humour, one off conversations and a huge rift in the fabric of space time!

Thought Doppelganger was awesome; you took a fairly cliche-able premise and made it into something new and interesting, which deserves many kudos points as far as I'm concerned.

I love how everyone's fears are a mix of the irrational and the real, because why would you only dream of Wraith when you become a bit more used to them?

A question though, if I may? If you had longer with the episode to explore more personnel's fears, what would we see for the likes of Zelenka and Carter?

Am very much looking forward to episode - and season - 5!

Doppleganger? Just one word:

FANTABULOUS!

Okay, well maybe more than one word. JF, DH...Fantastic all the way around. LOVED Rodney coming in "I'm not dead." WOO! Go Rodders. JF's "evil" look--holy smoke he can seriously do "creepy."

Awww, on Heightmeyer but as noted by another comment, the falling scene was visually stunning and yet really freaky at the same time.

Not sure what I think about the new uniforms; I think they look better on the guys than the girls. That whole "form-fitting" thing doesn't look good on any of the women despite their fabulous figures, IMO. But that's such a minor nit-pick in the grand scheme of things.

Also still trying to warm up to Keller, I must admit. But I liked the mess-hall scenes too; chatting/downtime scenes are cool to see once in awhile.

Lorne sleepwalking...Hey, I know how creepy that can be; my husband used to do a lot of weird things in his sleep.

Kudos on an episode well done! Season 4 rox so far. :)

Doppelganger = talk about beating up on yourself (Sheppard)!! the scenes were setup well, hard to guess outcome- the whale thing was LOL and end fight scene was GREAT and I loved that Rodney came to rescue John. I loved that John stuck with wanting to help Rodney when Teyla would've been better at it. I will miss Heightmeyer, yet another blow for Teyla & Rodney- like Weir Kate was one of Teyla's best friends- like Beckett Rodney saw a lot of Kate. Too bad we didn't get to see doc break out the sock puppets. I wonder how Rodney took the news- glad Teyla went to get a hug events are getting to be too much for her to take "alone". But John needed a hug too. I didn't like that this episode made Ronon look & sound like an idiot so I appreciated Carter later explaining stuff to him. The guy is not slow. Oh and lets give Maj Lorne a first name already!! he's been there long enough to have earned one... My opinion of Dr Keller- the jury is still out. So far I'm not liking her too much, she's too... unsure... which a CMO shouldn't be. And her comment after Carter's speech about Kate H- fell flat. Carter was too nice about it as usual- I had the impression that she wanted to tell Keller to buzz off- but Carter as leader needs to be friends with the CMO so I'm looking for an improved relationship there in future episodes. Maybe I'll like Keller better too.

I know the story idea came from it and thats cool- but I take exception to further "Cold Lazarus" comparison because if memory serves- that wasn't hostile, was a physical replicant not dream- the only thing in common was a crystal lifeform. What was up at the end with all the crystals in the area lighting up? how did the team get away with so much mental compulsion energy bouncing around? had I been in that forest seeing that- would've scared the crap out of me more than anything else in the episode.
Good job, REALLY looking forward to next week's Travelers. DD

Hi Joe!!!

Loved the episode. Rodney seems to be growing every episode. For him to head back in to help John after he just got zapped back to life, that's cool!!! There were a lot of effects in this episode! Great job on the John vs Evil John fight scenes. I like how your incorporating Carter. The stories are still staying heavy on our main characters (Rodney, John, Ronon, & Teyla). I think it is smart to slowly (but not too slow)develop Carter's part. She was such a huge part of SG-1 and she could have overshadowed the rest of the cast. Back to the episode. I love getting insight into the different characters. We are discussing it on David Hewlett's web site Why haven't we seen a congrats from you on your web site about his new baby boy?? Anyway, it was interesting to get a different view of their worlds/issues.

Teyla was dealing with her self-confidence, a mix between her past and where she is now. Can she be depended on. Ronon-being alone & not going out fighting. Dr. Keller-not being able to save a life/messing up. Dr. Heightmeyer (too bad she's gone)-heights/falling. Rodney-whales. John-clowns...because John was in Rodney's dream and he knew about John hating clowns I think that is why the clown popped up. John-things are his fault.

This has been the best season so far. Very cool!!! I cannot wait to see what happens with Keller and Ronon (check out Sci-Fi's interview with Jewel). Beside the Hewlett question (above), Have you heard anything from the distributors on how to get the 4 disk extras if you already own all 10 seasons of SG-1? I am a rarity to own seasons of shows. My friends watch the episodes and that's it. $250 is a lot for them (and myself to spend). My husband did spend $200 on the Stargate: A Celebration of 10 years book for my b-day (very sweet). I think it has Christopher Judge's and Paul Mullie's signatures. Still trying to figure out the the P M signature. Well have a great day. Hope your mouth feels better. Can't wait for the SG-1 movies and next Friday!!!

Hey, maybe you can suggest that if SciFi plans on running a Stargate SG1 episode right after the 2nd showing of Atlantis, that it would be cool if it aired a show that Atlantis may have mentioned.

Like, it would have been perfect if SciFi had shown SG1's season 1 episode of Cold Lazarus, season 2's Gamekeeper, or season 10's Morpheus. (Okay, SciFi can't show season 10 right now because it's in syndication, but you get the idea.)

Instead, SciFi aired SG1's season five episode of "Red Sky".

Whaah???

Great news about the ratings, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for S5.

May I say how much I'm enjoying season 4 to date. The episodes have been outstanding but Doppelganger takes top place so far. Great action, thrilling suspense, tense drama, comforting friendship and subtle humor of made it a winner for me. The acting was excellent and JoeF was outstanding in his portrayal of evil Shep. Yet again, he showed us how good he is at playing out of character, like turning into a bug, being fed on by a Wraith and now evil Shep. Great work!!

So hats off to all the gang for an super show!

Oh and when you posted this today:-

Answer: Well, I spoke to him a couple of days ago and sent him an email yesterday afternoon but, believe it or not, this topic never came up. Instead, we ended up discussing ratings and ADR. Go figure.

Does ADR mean automated dialogue replacement? If so, could that mean that JoeF has some looping to do when he returns from NZ?

Firstly.. is there any reason why the boys shirts weren't ripped off, or the very least cut off? Apart from it being aesthetically pleasing, wouldn't it have been necessary giving the positioning of the paddles? ;)

Secondly.. Please *begs* can you ensure that CPR is done correctly? I know it's not easy to do on a conscious person, but the scene in Adrift with Weir showed really good chest compressions. In the scene with Rodney though... I cringe everytime.

Thirdly... Did you feel that this ep could have been a two parter?

Did you not find yourself a new grocer like I sugessted, anon? I would have thought the sour grapes would be getting old by now. ;)

Thank you Mr M and Mr C the great episode, it's one of my favourites.. oh before I go, was that Joe flung off the balcony, or a stunt double? I had to wince at that. Great job all round, the choreography, the stunts, the story, and not to mention Evil Shep. *fans self* ;)

Hey Joe and perhaps your special guest! :)

I am hoping you can breakdown the fears in each dream for us. There has been much debate over how to interpret what our teams fears are, so would love some insight into them.

For example, is it true that Teyla's big fear is being in a relationship with Shep? :(

Or that Mckay is afraid of whales even though he had a pet one last season??

Thanks again,
Sara

Well, I watched Doppelganger and I just- I'm in total awe of this episode. I loved every bit of it, but most of all the wonderful team moments (the closing scene simply rocked!).

And John and Rodney, they're just so awesome together- errr..in a non-slashy way. The friendship and the bond they share is amazing and I really loved seeing how much they are willing to do for each other. The way they both instantly looked over to the other bed to check if the other was okay, that was brilliant. Poor John really was devastated when he thought Rodney had died.

The writers, producers, cast and crew have really stepped it up this season. The writing is wonderful, and it seems to me like the actors, especially Joe F., are really giving it everything they've got.

Wonderful, wonderful episode. Creepy, but with awesome team moments and friendship. I have nothing but praise!

If you had a chance would you want to explore the Nox more? (They basically disappeared after season 3 to accommodate the admittedly more awesome Asgard) I thought that if given a chance to grow they could have became just as cool as the Asgard.

Hello Joe,

I know this is Doppelganger day, but would you mind answering some questions about Reunion that have been brought up by fans and a t.v. reviewer in North Carolina.

1.Why don't the Atlantis writers move the series along in each episode?

2.Instead of starting at the beginning of the village scene, why don't you start in the middle. You know, cut to the chase?

3. How is the audience supposed to know that several weeks have passed since Lifeline?

4. Even though Ronon made the decision to go with the Satedans, the decisioned was nulled by them being traitors. Your response to this?

5. Why bother with a second jumper when the first jumper is cloaked?

6. Doesn't Carter going off-world make Sheppard redundant?

7. Why is Sheppard so stupid that he releases the replicator?

8. What do you say to people who say this was a mined-out premise?

Anonymous said...

So this is a great way (And mind I say it would be great writing) to make Ronon finally MOVE on?

The reason the whole Ronon/Keller romance is turning stomachs is because right out of the gate they seem to be shoved together and Jewell is going around gushing about the romance between them. It makes it appear TPTB killed off Beckett just to give Ronon a love interest, and that is a MAJOR turn off!

Ronon/Teyla has been hinted at since "Runner" and that ship has garnered quite a number of fans, heck there are quite a few Ronon/Weir fans out there, but this Ronon/Keller doo is something just being forced down fan throats and its making us ill.

Mr. Mallozzi,

I found your blog right before SGA S4 started, and I just wanted to say that I've really enjoyed all the pictures, videos, insight, etc. you've been providing on the show. SGA is and has been my favorite show for the last 3 years, and I really appreciate you taking the time to chat with us like this.

With the first four episodes of the season aired, and your willingness to hear our thoughts, I just wanted to write and say "thank you" to the writers, cast, crew, etc. for what looks to be an amazing season.

Doppelganger last night was just fantastic. On the acting side, I think Mr. Flanigan is at the top of his game. I'm not sure it's really a compliment, but he makes an excellent sociopath/psychopath, and it was a nice change to see him be able to branch out from the "Sheppard" persona he and the writers have created. Many of his facial expressions in DG were chilling, and his body language and the way he carried himself as the entity screamed malevolence. There were many places where he didn't have to even say anything and still the viewer knew exactly what was going through both Sheppard's and the entity's minds simply by the way in which Mr. Flanigan carried himself/acted.

The fight scene at the end was also very well done. The point at which Sheppard is thrown across the room and we see the entity stalking up the steps with that look of malice was beautifully creepy -- just like your own worst fears creeping up on you. The only thing I was left wanting was a little more dialogue. I didn't much care why the entity was feeding on fear (probably the same reason I eat ice cream – it tastes good), but it would have been nice to know what was going through Sheppard's mind as he was fighting his demons (here it was kind of hard to see his face as he was getting his butt kicked). Did the writers decide at this point that Sheppard simply would not waste his breath and would just go for the fight (kind of like him just shooting everything)?

In addition, the scene where McKay arrives and the entity pins him to the wall, well, I don't think I've ever seen such a look on Rodney's face. It was almost like seeing the dark, angry side of the character, which we don't really think of McKay as having. It's quite a pleasant surprise to see how far the writers have brought the once-scared scientist over the last 3 years, and to see just how much Rodney cares for his teammates – and his apparent anger over the idea of anyone harming them.

I think it's pretty apparent that Sheppard is willing to risk life and limb for Atlantis, and we almost expect it now, but it's different with Rodney in a way I can't quite put into words. Overall, I think it's just nice to see him finally connect with a team and have true friends that he's willing to go the extra mile for and not just give up on, like I think everyone at the SGC tended to expect.

I also liked what I took to be foreshadowing in the episode (although I'm not sure it was intended that way – perhaps you can clarify?). I realize the reference to "Aliens" was in Keller's nightmare, but Teyla having an alien burst out of her belly makes me curious as to what the writers have in store for her child later on....

I'd also like to add that while DG had many SG-1 episode references scattered throughout, I never once found myself thinking: "Man, that's been done before. Yawn." Regardless of the plot device (in this case the crystals a la "Cold Lazarus"), I truly enjoyed seeing the characters' fears (greatest or simply minor) laid bare like that, and I think the fact is that regardless of how you did it, someone was going to say, "It's been done." At least this way, it stayed in the SG universe, and it was nice to see the knowledge and technology garnered over the last 10 years be put to use. There probably is also some truth to saying that wherever you go, things pretty much going to stay the same. I mean, how many worlds on SG-1 looked like Vancouver? Chances are the plant/crystal life is going to be similar.

Other great things: the clown in the boat just kind of sitting there, the FXs on the whale, Sheppard as a gravedigger, Rodney's comment that Sheppard's fears would be full of women – and Sheppard agreeing (thinking back to the awkward hug with Teyla and the earlier one with Weir, I'm wondering and hoping the writers will tell us were that alleged fear stems from), Teyla "blaming" Sheppard for her dream, and the final scene where no one can sleep (we finally have our new team!).

Overall, I can't say much more on this episode than very well done. Doppelganger is definitely going down on the list as one of my all-time favorite hours of TV!

Now I realize I've written quite a lot, but if I may add one more thing…

It seems that from the start of S4 the writers have been heaping a lot of…grief?... doubt?...on Sheppard's shoulders. First Weir is captured, then Ronon almost leaves the team, following which – due to Sheppard's actions (at least as he'd see it) Heightmeyer dies and Rodney almost dies. And just the act of having to confront the entity in his own fears has got to leave a mark. Will the effects of all of this be addressed/seen in any great detail further down the line and really carry weight through the season, or will the fallout largely be contained in these few episodes?

Thanks for your time, and congrats on the ratings bump. I hope to see this show around for a very long time :)

Any chance we’ll see someone reading a Baron Destructo comic in season 5?

I will happily do such a cover image for you if there is a season five. (No need for pay or cred, either, but you'd have to get it printed yourself.) Just tell me what to draw. ;)

Hi, I'm a first-time commenter. Just wanted to say that Doppelganger was a very, very enjoyable episode. I'm a recent convert to stargate atlantis (have long been a stargate sg-1 fan and, for long/irrelevant reasons, only recently allowed myself to watch stargate atlantis), and I'm liking the series more and more with each episode I see.

The plot of Doppelganger was done very intelligently, and I really liked the use of subtlety to create horror. The character development was very welcome as well. Well done.

Also, I like your blog too. You've made it unique with your running discussion of food and answering questions in the text of your posts. You're already in the enviable position of doing something for a living that lots of people want to know about, but you're doing a great job of using a format that's interesting and engaging on its own merits.

So, question: have you and the other writers and producers struggled in figuring out Carter's place at atlantis (I mean relationship-wise, attitude towards other characters, etc.)?

I loved Doppleganger! I especially loved the Shep and McKay scenes. Those two have the best chemistry.
Two thumbs up!

Hi Joe:

Doppelganger ROCKED! I was just wondering who played the part of the clown in McKay's dream. *shiver* I hate clowns...creepy! LOL!

Hi Joe!

Hope you have recovered fully from the dental experience....

Although I live in the UK, and Doppelganger hasn't aired officially yet, I have managed to see it. I apologise for being one of those people who has done so much damage to your live viewing figures BUT being non-US, what I do doesn't matter ;).

Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic episode. Script, production, FX, acting, the whole thing was an absolute winner from start to finish. Season 4 has definitely upped the ante - the whole team should be very proud!

Intelligent scifi is a rare thing and Atlantis (and SG1)always manages to combine elements of mythology, history, science, weaponry and pure imagination really, really well without losing touch with the character focus that any entertainment needs to keep their audience.

A couple of questions for the producers:

1) Thinking about the overall 'look' of Doppelganger, and your mental picture of what an individual scene needed to look like, what was the most technically difficult part of the episode to actually get on film in order to make it appear how you imagined it would? And why?

2) Joe, what would you have dreamed about if you had been affected by the entity? I think RCC might have already answered this question on the Gateworld entry against this episode ... however, if he hasn't, same question to him too!

3) Have you read any of the Stargate books that have been published by Fandemonium?

Fingers crossed for a Season 5 pickup and I am waiting impatiently for the Ark of Truth release!

Cheers
Janie

ARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!! Is no one safe? Poor Kate, what did she ever do to you guys? ;)

Other then that very sad surprise, It thought it was intense. Great to see Lorne have a good part to play.

Love Sheppard helping out Rodney by going into his dreams and Rodney going into John's to save him.

I wonder what Radek and Carter would have dreamed about?

Just wanted to add my apppreciation to those who have already said how wonderful Doppelganger was.

An outstanding episode, and my admiration goes to Joe Flanigan for his outstanding performance(s) here.

Evil Sheppard was just scary, and I actually found myself disliking him, and when you consider how adorable Sheppard is, that's some achievement.

Kudos to RCC for writing and directing so brilliantly, and an extra special mention to Joe Flangian. Wow, that man can act!

I must admit that I'm really looking forward to next week's episodes. I think that when new species with advanced technology enter the Stargate world it really brings out the imagination. Maybe it's just me. I am pisces. Anyways...hopefully that good news you are talking about is the pick up of Season 5.

Joe,
Doppelganger was a great standalone episode and I thought it would have been better if Sci-Fi had shown it next week just before Halloween and not yesterday. Do you and/or MGM have total control of airing order? Since it was a stand-alone (as far as I know,) could it and Travelers been reversed with no harm to continuity?
I must say I wasn't that impressed with the storylines in Adrift or Lifeline, but Reunion and Doppelganger were excellent!
The only thing that saved the first two for me were the visual and special effects which have been a big leap ahead from last year's already great effects. I just hope the storylines continue to stay at or improve on the level of the last two.

Just wanted to say that I adored DG, and thought it was Atlantis at its best. I thought RCC did a brilliant job, my thoughts are that without JF, the eppie wouldn't have been so successful

A quick question for RCC. Did the entity leave because of the electric shock, like Rodney surmised? Or did it leave before Keller shocked Rod?

Thanks

Doppelganger was fantastic.

I'm loving Keller more and more. She just fits in so nicely. Same with Carter. I'm very impressed with how she's been integrated.

Great to see Zelenka and Evan too as I love them both. :)

All around solid team/character episode although I confess I would have loved to have seen Radek and Sam's nightmares. I know...time constraints...and at least we got the main team plus Lorne and Keller.

A quick question for ya (which I know will get lost in the sea of questions you're asked but what the hey):

How did McKay not catch the 42 reference? Is he not a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fan?

Rodney's comment that Sheppard's fears would be full of women – and Sheppard agreeing

I think McKay meant that he'd thought Sheppard's dreams would involve more "hot chicks", not that Sheppard's fear is women!?! :S

OhioAnne said...

One additional thought ....

While I understand why Lorne's nightmare focused on Replicators (fit the current story line better) I would have expected his nightmare would be Unas .... lots and lots of angry Unas.

1)Will any of the crew realize this season they are destined for a greater purpose than they know?

2)Are there any moments this season when you think the audience will stare at the screen and go OH. MY. GOD.?

Doppleganger was AMAZING!!!! Incredibly squee worthy!

There've been rumblings about throughout the fan community about a possible "Sheppard/ Teyla fall out".
Do you have anything to say about that?

"Now I’d love to go into detail about the movie but I have a feeling that Rob Cooper, who wrote and directed Ark of Truth and will be stopping in to do a special guest Q&A today, will probably kill me if I reveal any secrets. Suffice it to say, this is a movie that will richly reward longtime fans."

Longtime fans of the last two years (Stargate Command)? Or longtime fans of SG-1?

"RCC: Yes, I agree. Awesome. We’re talking on TV right?"

Yes only on TV. But i have to admit...if he showed up and told me he was going to kill me i'd have to scream "AWESOME!" before hand. Odd last words..but it works!

What can i say? Metal scifi fans are weird as hell. We're also lotal. Why i say "us" is beyound me. I'm the only one! lol
