So sad. It’s reached the point know where Cookie Monster’s yahoo account receives more emails from fans than it does from scammers. Still, I’m happy to say that after a lengthy lay-off, I was able to go back and find a couple of potential targets.
The first was an email from a DR. atiko tijani who is in “urgent need for foreign partner” to help him transfer $30 million dollars out of a deceased client’s account. And, just in case I doubted the veracity of his proposal, the good doctor offers up a link to a new story about a plane crash to, in fact, “confirm the genuiness of the deceased death”.
Cookie Monster wrote back:
“ Hello dere,
Me confirm. Yep. He dead alright. But sadly Cookie Monster no can help. You looking for foreign partner and Cookie Monster not foreign. Me American.
Hey, now dat tink about it, Oscar the Grouch one quarter Scottish. Cookie Monster meet his Scottish relatives once. Dey speak language dat almost sound like English. Dat count?
Cookie Monster
P.S. Me love to learn more about DR atiko culture where people no do capitalize names. So exotik!
The other email was from poor, down-on-her-luck Agnes Johnson in Sierra Leone who lost everything (father, mother, two brothers, and most of her worldly possessions) in a rebel attack. Agnes explains: "I have seen war and I have seenpeace, I have seen riches and I have seen people die.." She now lives in a refugee camp in Senegal but is desperate for someone to help her access her late father’s fortune ($85 million). She instructs: “you will open an account for me there in your country and keep the whole money into the account then i will come over there and stay with you or you can buy a good aparment for me over there.”
Cookie Monster wrote back:
“Hello Agnes,
Cookie Monster understand. Like you, he see war, peace, riches, and people die. But not in Sierra Leone. On t.v. show Falcon Crest. Is with Jane Wyman and Lorenzo Lamas. Remember episode where Maggie, Chase, and Richard follow evil baby-kidnapper Melissa into San Francisco Bay and Chase save baby and Melissa but he not come back up? (so sad). Or time Maggie die when wedding ring get caught in swimming pool drain? (so sadder) Or when Parker Stevenson leave show? (maybe saddest of all!) If Agnes not know show, Cookie Monster highly recommend. Would be great way for Agnes to take mind off tough life where she left with only clothes on back and computer to send emails. Refugee camp where you staying get TV LAND? Sure hope so.
Me want to help, but can’t offer hospitality. Count be sleeping on Cookie Monster’s couch since Mrs. Count kick him out last month. Is very depressing. Every night, he cry himself to sleep hugging econo-size bottle of Jim Beam and singing old Transylvania folk songs. Would not be so bad if there be more than two. Also, Count not exactly Rick Derringer. Sometime singing so bad Cookie Monster lie next to open window so sounds of next-door slaughterhouse drown out noise for more peaceful night sleep.
Sincerely,
Cookie Monster”
Well, a HUUUUUGE sigh of relief for me yesterday when, at around 6:00 p.m., the doctor’s office called to inform me my blood tests came back and everything was normal. Let’s celebrate! The mailbag is back!
Today’s pics: Lulu shows off her new outfit.
Today’s video: None today.

Ascended Tauri writes: “1)when you guys write/discuss story line episodes like you did with 'Reunion', do you/rest of production staff discuss in detail the possible future direction the story could go? Say, Ronon's friend that retreats at the end of 'Reunion'. How much discussion goes into a future plan for that character? 2. Do you/rest of staff already discuss, in this case, Season 5 during your production of S. 4?
Answers: 1) I made the decision not to kill of Tyre at the end of Reunion because I thought he would be an interesting character to bring back for a future episode. 2) When we wrote the season finale, we had a general idea of how we wanted to pick things up in season 5, but we didn’t have detailed plans for an overall season-long arc at that point.

Woo hoo! The return of Cookie monster!!!
Wow. Early blog update today. Just popping in briefly to say that I loved Travelers - possibly my favourite episode so far this season... I say possibly cos Doppelganger is right up there too.. I love them both for different reasons though! Travelers was just a damn good, entertaining episode with plenty of action and snark and oooh everything. I really liked Larrin and look forward to seeing her again - and it was great to see Sheppard matching wits against her.. it reminded me somewhat of Sheppard circa The Storm/The Eye, fighting alone to outwit an enemy that is superior in numbers. Lovely to see him using that referenced Mensa-level intelligence and working (and fixing!) Lantean technology on his own. I particularly enjoyed the focus on the Sheppard storyline here.. in previous "Shepisodes", to coin a phrase, such as Common Ground, there has still been a lot of story taking place away from Sheppard and the focus of the episodes were quite split. This episode felt to me like Sheppard's turn at a Grace Under Pressure or The Real World, where most of the episode is about what's happening with him. Now saying I'd want that every week, cos I do love the teamy goodness, but it was nice to see, just this once.
Ali was a happy fangirl this week. :D
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go watch Travelers again... I'm off to Blackpool for 2 days tomorrow meaning 2 days without internet or cable TV or any ability to re-watch Travelers.. so I gotta make the most of it while I can! :D

You left the answer to this question blank. Was that deliberate or was it just a typo?
Joe,
Happy belated birthday and congrats on the unremarkable blood test results. I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how much I enjoy reading your blog. I started because I'm a big Stargate fan, but now I'm a big Lulu fan. Who knew French bulldogs could be so cute? My favourite video so far is of you feeding the dogs. Those are sound effects that money can't buy.
You have my full sympathy regarding the laundry issue. I always thought I was the only one who didn't know what to do with those cream colours. And what about black and white items? Ontario grade 8 home ec didn't cover this. In fact, all I remember from home ec class was that we learned how to warm up a teapot and we made green peanut butter. I regularly use at least 50% of these skills.
Anyway, just thought I'd let you know that I appreciate your writing.
Best, pfj
JOE!! :(
(((joe)))
i didn't realize just how worried you were about your test results...
do you want to know my wishlist for s5? you do? really? yes! :D
1- more sam!:D
2- it would be lovely for a sam centric ep.
3- more about atlantis itself. i find the whole place VERY fascinating!
4- more interactions with all the peeps of atlantis 'together'.
5- maybe coming into contact with the aliens from sg1's 'grace'.
6- let mckay be the leading man, being suave and sexy. (but not an alternate version of mckay)
7- sam/jack. ;)
8- female bonding (sam, teyla, keller)
9- you find a way of giving majorsal rda's phone number.
that's all for now! :D
sally :D
Hey Joe, just wanted to say, I loved the episode "Travelers"! Any more Shep Whump in future episodes? And please tell me, you will bring Michael/Connor Trinneer back in season 5?
Take care
I enjoy your witty dealings with spammers...and with readers submitting stupid questions. I think I want to be you when I grow up.
Answer: "It was?"
Cool, thanks for kinda answering my question from yesterday. Check out Gateworld's episode thread for season two for the episode
"Michael" (under summary). If you scroll down you'll see where it says Production and part of it says: "Michael" carried the working title "Charlie" during the writing process." It also says "Before leaving for hiatus I was able to come up with an idea for Carl's "Michael" story (formerly the Charlie' story). If Carl's past scripts are any indication, this one is going to be fantastic." (Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi in a post at his blog).
When I asked you the question, I knew I had heard Charlie some where but couldn't remember exactly where. I went back and checked and found that it was on Gateworld. I know that names are tossed around before finally deciding, but since the name Charlie made it that far (meaning that the fans would know) before the name was changed I was just curious if there was a specific reason? BTW I like the name Michael a lot better, I was just curious is all.
Is Lulu auditioning for Prison Break?
Can you talk a little about the wardrobe dept? They've done a great job this season. The leatherwork is fantastic.
PS. Please thank whoever's responsible for the return of Sheppard's black zip up sweater. But it seems ... less tight than the first season. Who should I address cookies to in order to fix that?
Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to share with folks such as myself who visit your blog. Although I initially visited in search of SGA behind-the-scenes info, I continue to read whatever you write simply because I appreciate the fact that there's someone blogging in the vast wasteland of the Internet who can actually write coherent thoughts in grammatically correct complete sentences.
Congratulations on your fifth season pickup. I know how excited you must be when faced with the opportunity to spend countless hours tied to a keyboard until your hands cramp from what is most likely the early onset of carpal tunnel syndrome. I can only imagine how much fun it is to give birth to brilliant ideas and share them with others, who then gleefully take your ideas and 'massage' them until you can barely recognize the original product of your imagination. I'm sure that the prospect of needing to meet, if not surpass, your previous writing achievements in order to afford yourself the opportunity for a larger paycheck and a sixth season of Atlantis has not caused you a moment's hesitation, and you're busy plotting the story arc for the next season.
I also believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Great Pumpkin.
Excellent news about the blood tests! Yeah!
You answered my question! [yes!] Thanks! I didn't think that you would. So the Washington guy is Jack O'Neill. Hmm.
The Cookie Monster is very funny.
Lulu's costume is cute but it looks a little bit like she just broke out of jail!
Ford blew up?!? Guess I didn't see that episode.
Please answer my questions. 1) Will you try to have Jack in season five? 2) Can you have another one of the episode dissections for Trio? Pretty please? 3) Does Sam meet the Wraith from Common Ground in The Seer?
Thanks!
I haven't had my 'Joe responds to my comment' fix in a while, so I'm making it easy for you. Fill in the blanks in the message below and repost it for me. I'll be ultra-thrilled. Consider it our "Mad-Lib" of a sort.
Hi, Jenny Robin. I'm so _________ that you had a fantastic vacation! Did you get ______________ in Florida? I really enjoyed the time you posted ___________ on my blog. I had no idea you were such a __________. I wish I could be ________ like you in that regard. I really appreciate how _________ and ________ you are, no matter what _______ ________ says. Thanks for ___________!
Your _____ pal,
Joe
Just to respond to that ford comment, at the time the episode ended with Sheppard leaving open the possibility for him returning. Which was basically (even the audio commentary says this) the writers was of saying he *could* return at some point. Did you guys originally have a plan to revisit Ford at some point which was just shelved as the direction of the show changed or was there no real plan to?
Cuuuuuuute pics of Lulu! Love anonymous' Prison Break idea! A photo of Lulu in the arms of Michael Scofield, and I would be in heaven! :)
I'm really surprised I haven't seen fiber optic cable and wifi setups in the refugee camps they show on TV. Agnes Johnson must be in one of those 5-star camps, eh? Wonder if she's served gourmet food or starving like they do at those less-posh camps. Sheesh!
I look forward to the Team's next encounter with Tyre. He is an interesting character. As for Ford, I think he survived the Wraith hive ship exploding into a jillion pieces and now lives a life modeled after Hagar the Horrible.
Gotta go take a nap before I stay up all night, volunteering at a 2am bicycle ride.
Rock on, my northern brother!
eddy
P.S. I'm glad your test results came out good! :)
Heres an easy one (yup or nope time)
1. Amanda Tapping Returning?
2. Teal'c returning?
3. Wraith Homeworld?
4. Harmony Part 2?
5. Lucious Returning?
6. Jodelle ferland must return!
I agree about the Ford point, i think people only cling to him because he was a character that went rogue then eventually "died", he had the coolness and crazy factor about him but you are right.
for one, Ford was inside the hive ship not too long after the team escaped, Wraith were closing in on him, he may be a super human guy with the enzyme but he isn't invincible, there is a chance that he never made it off the ship alive and simply was drained of his life.
It was never shown that a Dart was headed towards the planet, if it was then Sheppard + team would of intercepted or at least saw ford use the stargate, and the explosion took out both hives + darts.
i know someone could argue that what isn't shown onscreen, doesn't mean it never happened.
realistically speaking it is like getting two bee hives, and having them battle, with a few bees escaping not long before both hives get blown up.
Ford didn't belong, thus he died, it to me is rather simple
he really shouldn't return because it would be, whats the word pointless, he is long gone, his story is done, and the only point to having him appear would be OH LOOK AT THE CRAZY MAN FORD ON HIS ENZYME, and if somehow he did return and was cured, he would only have the, ford gets sent home treatment or "dies again".
I think people just want a happy ending, but realistic speaking the world isn't about happy endings or sunshine, butterflys and rainbows, not in a Galaxy full of life sucking aliens, and enemys that will gladly stab you in the back should you betray them
i would probably go on for hours about how i think ford shouldn't return for realism but that would probably bore you and i would probably be stepping on opinions you share already.
Oh and Congrats that your blood test thing was normal, may you live for as long as a full grown Jaffa would!
Lol if Atlantis gets to season 60 youd still be writing :O
I have just spent the last fifteen minutes reading your Cookie Monster letters out to my fifteen year old son, while trying to impersonate the voice of Cookie Monster.
Then explaining what Sesame Street was, his education has been sadly lacking.
I personally think my impression of the Count was nothing short of brilliant
“Count vith me, von, twooo, tree.”
To be honest his eyes glazed over and I think I lost him when I got to Big Bird.
Anyway my vote for book of the month is (drum roll…)
The Gunslinger and Doomsday Book
So your bloods came back normal well done.
Pauline
Oh I love Cookie monster! I hope he gets replies from his new pen pals.
Glad the blood tests were OK, now that doesn't mean you are not carefull and don't over do the sweets and the high cholesterol stuff OK?
Lulu looks so CUTE! my favorite is picture 2...and 3...Maybe 1 too.
Oh I miss having a dog! I have a Black cat by marriage...it pays up having one this time of the year, but it's no dog =(
Red Soxs game tonight wish us luck!!!
Can't wait to see next episode friday! I saw travelers...It was OK but something was off and can't put my finger on it. Have to re watch it.
Take care.
Poor Lulu looks dismayed to be in prison duds ;)
Meanwhile, TRAVLERS question. It's bandied about on some fan reviews. Why did both Sheppard and Larrin trust the wraith to walk back unaccompanied to his ship? He could have easily just hidden somewhere and jumped one of them later on, as obviously, they thought they were Wraith-free. Inquiring minds want to know...

oh, shame on you pauline, not teaching your son about the wonders of sesame street until he's 15!! haha, i used to love sesame street... it was one of those timeless classics. though i think joe as cookie monster is a bit more snarky... :)
Hi Joe, any hope of seeing the whole SG-1 team coming over to help on an episode of season 5??? Reaaly hope to see Ford again one day!!!! Thanks
Will Lorne get an episode? :)
Lulu looks endearing.
I enjoyed the story of "Joe versus the washer". It showed creative potential on the part of the writer.
Please - no girly bonding stuff, boring, boring and even more boring.
Why don't you write "Joe's dog pack versus the neighbours' cats?" Or "Joe's complete guide to DIY".
Funny dog stories are always interesting.
Thanks for answering my questions! Really appreciated it. Loved 'Travellers' last night, especially the whole idea, and FINALLY a Lantean battlecruiser survives, haha. Hoping to see a suave use of them. For some reason the ep. reminded me of 'Thor's Hammer' in that, this episode could become something very big in future episodes, making this episode seem even better.
Was discussing in forums recently.... and here's my NO.1 HOPE for Season 5:
Whatever happens in 'Ark of Truth', PLLLEEEAAASE make it a HUGE part of Season 5!:) Been really pumped about the movies lately.
Very glad to hear the good news re: your blood tests. I hope you plan to celebrate appropriately ... and include the photos in an upcoming blog.
Hi Joe
Question: What happens to the cast members mail that we send to them during the hiatus? Is it saved until they return, or is it forwarded to their homes to be looked at or answered?
Friggin' awesome about Daniel. Seriously good stuff, and now I'm already jacked up about season five. I hope he gets at least two eps, just like Teal'c did.
Also, you said:
"I don’t believe there are any deleted scenes from this episode. (Travelers)"
So the episode was short? If so, can you tell me what scenes you added to fill the time?

You left the answer to this question blank. Was that deliberate or was it just a typo?
Are you really asking this question seriously? Forgetting that Joe M has written ad nauseum that he will not reveal major spoiler here (I think the death of one of those would qualify) why would you anyone who considers themselves a fan of the show want to know this information ahead of time? I'm a big fan of the Stargate shows, but the level of fanatisism of some of you people just astounds me!
So, does Weir die? And, what about Torri's fourth episode? Surely it can't be too much of a spoiler now to reveal it. Also, what of the Tria? And will we see the Travelers' Lantean warship again?
Answer: Not to be a bit of a downer, but some could argue that him getting blown up on the hive ship he was on could be considered closure.
Joe...we the audience were left with the sense at the end of The Hive that Ford, being as resilient as he is, probably found a way to make it off the ship in time before the BOOM. Throughout the entire episode, in fact, several comments by the other characters highlighted Ford's uncanny ability to survive against all odds...and Shep's comment at the end about not being surprised to see him again further suggested that the writers were leaving an opening for a possible return of the character should the story warrant it.
Which reminds me...the currently snaked Former Senator Kinsey is still at large, unbeknownst to our heroes, having 'beamed' off the Al'kesh in Full Alert.
I'm just saying...it'd be cool to see either of these characters again if the story calls for it. :)
Thanks,
Mary Beth
The south park parody was hilarious, you should check it out when you can. Glad to hear that your test results were good. Hey,since Atlantis left Lantea, and with the assumption that Oberoth and the rest of the replicators know Atlantis is no longer there, is the beam still active?
Hope you're having a great weekend!
Hi Joe:
Speaking of aspects of your personal life, would you be willing to share how you and Fondy met? Was it at University? Did you save her life by pushing her out of the way of an oncoming Metro subway train?
It's gotten cold in Alberta. The north winds are beginning to blow. Please feel sorry for me.
Patricia
Ooooooooops...I forgot to add my congratulations to you regarding the results you (and we by extension) have been awaiting.
I'm very happy for you that they turned out in your favor. :)
Lulu doesn't look happy about her new outfit. *sends her a belly-rub and nice juicy bone to help her recover*
Hi, Joe! It's been quite a while since the last time I posted, but I check your blog everyday.
I'm glad to hear the blood tests turned all normal.
Congratulations on getting picked up for season 5! I'm so thrilled! I adore Atlantis.
And lastly, I loved all the s4 episodes so far, but Doppelganger and Travelers have to be among my top fave episodes ever (along with Phantoms, Common Ground, Tao of Rodney and others). I ADORE Travelers.
I know you will give no spoilers, but any chance you could say at least if we'll see Larrin in a later s4 episode?
Hope she's back in season 5 too.
John and Larrin have a fantastic chemistry together and she seems a strong female leader and a very interesting character.
Very glad to hear that the results of the physical were good; you can continue your chocolate-loving lifestyle without worry.
Since you occasionally make it to Seattle, have you tried the Dilléttante Café on Broadway? Their desserts and chocolates are excellent. Oh, and their borscht is pretty good, too.
As for the upcoming fifth season, I hope we get a chance to see Paul "Major Disaster" Davis. I know Colin Cunningham has said that he would love to get onto Atlantis for an episode or two and the fans would love to see him. *crossing fingers*
You left your answer to Zabadoo's second question blank. Now, I can understand if it was on mistake. You are a very busy man and accidents happen. However... If it wasn't a mistake, are you trying to give your readers massive heart attacks?
Mr. M,
Just curious, what does JF think about playing Kirk...and always having it go so horribly wrong?
It really is painful watching Sheppard try and interact with women (and I honestly don't mean that in a slashly/sexist, etc. way).
As simply a yes or no question, any chance of the ep with his ex-wife clearing up why he finds it so difficult?
Congrats on the good test results and S5! Gonna be cool to see what a 100th episode season finale looks like!
Best,
Jenny
ps-- I've been lurking here for a while and just figured out what the "mailbag" is...thought you meant real mail. *hangs head in shame* :)
Excellent pictures, very cute. It's also good to see that Cookie Monster is still getting some love from abroad.
Lulu looks sooo cute! I saw those pictures and went "awwww".
Ooh, good to see cookie monster is being the studious little email-responder again. Let's hope his correspondence continues to be interesting.
And you just reminded me I still haven't voted on a sci fi book. My vote goes to Doomsday Book.
Joe
Lulu is so gorgeous and she looks so good in any outfit you put her in.. With her good looks and charming personality it's a wonder she's not vain...
Great news about your blood work. By the way , have you ever mentioned to your doc anything about all the rich food you consume and all the chocolate you partake off.. Your excercise regime must be extraordinary.. What ever you are doing keep it up.. No way of bringing Col Mitchell back for season 5 is there? He's really cute..
Take care
Dori
After watching s04e05 "Travelers" last night, I felt compelled to put forward a couple of questions relating to some of the technology in the episode, and in s04e02.
Firstly, you mentioned on a previous blog post that Ronon's gun recharges itself, and that it's origin would be revealed shortly... now that we know it's a Traveler's gun, and the energy discharge appears to be the same color as their shielding technology, it seems fair to assume that they're manufactured by the Traveler's, either recently, or some time in the past (as they said that they now lacked the resources to repair their own ships).
My question is, do the guns make use of kinetic energy for recharging, the same way self-winding clockwork does?
My second question is, has it ever been demonstrated that any of the shield technologies exhibited in the stargate universe (Goa'uld, Asgard, Lantean, Ori) are actually capable of deflecting Alterran drones? As it seems that every time this is brought up in any tech discussion threads, people just use "it was bad CGI" as a get-out clause for not settling the issue.
Good to hear your blood tests were clean!

Remind me not to mess with you. :D Very nice. D:
I loved Travlers and are we going to see those people anymore this season?
Will the Writers strike looming, will that me you and the rest of staff go on strike too?
I heart Cookie Monster with a side order of liver, my affection for him is so great.
I wonder if the refugee camp had broadband? If so that would mean they have better computer access than I do - I will see if they have any brochures and book my next holiday there.
Hurrah about the blood tests! Though you do realise that this might be a lucky escape and a wake up call - lets face it, you knew there was a possible reason for panic. I know, life can be cruel. It gives you fried pig treats and then it takes them away.
I'm half way through painfully slowly downloading the Travelers episode (not American, don't affect ratings, buy the dvds, disclaimer cakes) and am enjoying it greatly. Lots of fun, great banter, and Sheppard actually has chemistry with Larrin which was nice to see.
I hope you forgive my impertinence, but Lulu's new outfit makes her look like she's doing ten to twenty in the slammer.
Anyway, glad to hear the test results were normal.
majorsal a dit...
...
"i didn't realize just how worried you were about your test results..." :(
Hope everything is okay!
"3- more about atlantis itself. i find the whole place VERY fascinating!" I.d like to know more about Atlantis too...Is the city really "alive"?
...
"7- sam/jack. ;)"
DITTO!!!An itsy bitsy tiny little confirmation will work for me...
Sally, I really love your post! Real funny...RDA's phone number...could I have it too?
Holy Crap Joe, you weren't kidding with this season's pure concentrated awesomisity. Travelers was great, and as usual, I've written up a (glowing) review at Gateworld: Link. Wonderfully acted, wonderfully written, and just...wonderful.
I'll post my 2 questions again tomorrow, when there aren't already 50 people ahead of me.
Bonsoir Joseph ,
Est-ce que tu écoutes les macth de hockey ? Les Canadiens sont en feu ! Youhou !!! Comme ont dit par chez-nous : Go Habs Go!!!!
N'est-ce pas un peu bizarre d'habiller ton chien ainsi? Loin de moi l'idée de juger... Une réflexion c'est tout!

Oh yeah, and I forgot; see, I knew that blood test was gonna be clear; those doctors, always messing with our minds. Congrats!
So I guess we can expect restaurant reviews a-plenty in the coming months?
Joe,
Since you've been renewed for a 5th season, will you be writing an episode for Ben Browder to guest star in?
I always thought it would be a great story if Carson didn't get blown up, but instead went a little crazy from the guilt associated with his creation of the retrovirus and ran off, found Ford, and together the two of them have a mad scientist lab somewhere in the Pegasus galaxy working with the enzyme. I think that would make a great season 5 episode! Maybe you could even work Weir in there somehow? Then again, maybe I should stick to writing police reports. You guys seem to be doing just fine there without me.
However, I have one teeny criticism for "Travelers." I was yelling at Sheppard and what's-her-name because, HELLO!, wraith on board, and you stand there kissing and don't even look behind you (or at the scanner) to make sure he really left?? For heaven's sake! It was fun, though.
Sheppard must really be a sucker for a pretty face, because earlier she hit him three times and he never seemed to see it coming. Heh.
Wow, it looks like people who loved Travelers far outnumber the few who didn't.
Larrin is a hit as a sexy, vital female character so please promise to bring her back often in Season 5.
Larrin/Sheppard are awesome as a tense team and the storyline with her and her people offers a lot of possible outcomes for Season 5.
Hi Joe,
This is my first time writing. I love your blog. I've actually gained weight looking at all the food! I have a question...
Is Stargate Atlantis going to be affected by the potential Writers Guild of America strike? They are so far set to walk out on 10/31/07. Carl, since he is American, correct?, would probably be part to the WGA and thus on strike. How about you, are you part of WGA or are you in some type of Canadian equivalent?
Am I correct in thinking that the show is an American show, filmed in Canada in colaboration with the Canadian Film Industry?
If there is a strike, would you and all the other writers on the show kind of think, kind of pitch, kind of put their thoughts on paper (wink, wink) so the show can go on when the strike is over?
Hi Joe,
Glad to hear the that the test results came back normal.
Finally got to see Doppelganger and Travelers. They were great episodes! I really liked Larin (sp?) Can't wait to see more of her and Sheppard together. The ending of Travelers was great I love how Teyla just rolled her eyes. lol
So, with the possible WGA strike will that put a kink in SGA's season 5 planning?
Thanks Joe for the daily blogs, it's greatly appreciated!
-Katie
PS If you ever need a dog sitter I would be happy to watch Lulu..she's just so cute!
Glad to hear the test results came back good! Love Lulu's little prison outfit. ;)
I really enjoyed 'Travelers'. I missed the team dynamic but loved Sheppard. Would it be a correct interpretation to say Larrin was written as a 'female Sheppard'? She really does seem to be a match for him.
Did you write that one, or did Paul?
Lulu is such a cutie. Is that a hoodie she’s wearing?
Also, pre-season 5 renewal, Artic Goddess asked: “Would you consider living in the United States if an American series offered you a writing position?”
Answer: Of course.
But...but...what about Fondy and the store! Which, by the way, how is it doing?
--Ben writes: “Hey Joe, did you see southpark Parody Stargate? For that matter do you watch southpark?”
Answer: Haven’t seen it yet. We all love South Park.--
Apparently, it's at least a trilogy. Saw Part 1 (first time) and Part 2 (again) tonight. Part 3 to premiere next Wed. night.
Surely MGM's publicists could contact Comedy Central's publicists and get the three eps on a DVD for you?
I'm tempted to infer that the SP/SG trilogy has a deep literary theme about the current state of the American imagination. Then I remind myself: This is SOUTH PARK. It's written by GUYS. Guys YOUNGER than I am. *grin*
Have to beg your forgiveness again, have not yet watched my tape of "Travelers".
And for S5...you incorporated my SG requests for horses and dragons in S9/10...how about finding a racadillo or a winged horse in the Pegasus Galaxy?
And one old-news question: Did y'all ever name which Go'auld ended up in Kinsey?
PS--those blood tests may become more routine as you get older. Mine are quarterly, due to certain preventative meds.
i just finished watching ep 5 and wanted to say wow, like wow it was awsome new possible allies and a new huge ship woot. one question i do have though why dont the atlantians adopt some of the azgard tech. now that we have all their stuff???
Dustin
I really enjoyed Travellers, the character of Larrin is brilliant, i'm really liking her. She was very well cast as well as having a befitting personality. Will we be seeing her again this season?
Glad Jason and Joe's fam's and houses are alright...I think I'll be smelling and coughing up ask for a week...the skies are a little less orange today. The sun was so red midday on thurs last week I thought I was somewhere on the Outer Rim...
Loved Travelers...and loved finding out a possible origin of Ronon's gun...or did they take it from a different race as well??
Just watched Travelers. Really loved it. The interaction between Shep and Larrin was such a lot of fun. Every episode so far has been great but I've especially enjoyed Doppelganger and now Travelers.
This Sheppard fan is very happy! Thanks!

Please anonymous, don't encourage the writers!!! No more Lucius Lavin!!! Joe, perhaps when RCC and the rest of them have the Ark of Truth up and running, you could borrow it and use it on all of us who post on this blog to brainwash us into thinking that Irresistable and Irresponsible never occured?
Joe M said..... everything was normal
Several thoughts crossed my mind when I read this, but the cleanest retort I can use here is 'now there's a novelty!'
Excuse me while I go find a cloth to clean the pc screen with.
LuLu doesn't look very happy in her prison stripes, striking though they may be.
Just coming out of lurkdom yet again to say how much I loved Travelers.
Sheppard and Larrin had great chemistry, and though I did miss the team a little bit, it was nice to finally see Sheppard get an episode to himself - about time, IMHO.
Please pass on my thanks to Paul. Travelers was a fun, action episode. Joe F. was as wonderful as ever. Jill Wagner a feisty, tough cookie, and yep, I loved the Shep whump - could have done with a little more though! Sorry, I just can't help it!
I really loved the closing scene too. I just adore the team together, hanging out!
Yet another strong episode. I looked back and compared the first 5 of this season to the first 5 episodes of the previous 3 seasons, and you know what? I strongly believe season 4 comes up trumps! :)
Travelers was GRRRRRREAT! Possibly my favorite of the season thus far. I'm a sucker for big honkin' warships ;). Maybe that's because i like to make 'em in my spare time... Well, on the computer that is:
Lantean Warship Mallozzi (CLICK ME JOE)
Ehh? Ehhh?? Whatcha Think? Will we be seeing the Mallozzi in Season 5? ;)
Anyways, great episode. I do have a question though, seeing as it's Lantean Warship discussion time... Are we supposed to know what happened to the Tria yet? Did i miss that explaination?
Do you throw out ELizabeth to make her come back stronger like SG-1's producers did with Daniel ?
I'm worried about her...really, it makes me stress everydaaaaay !
T_T
Here's my wish for season five - a Ronon and Rodney-centric episode. I've really grown to love the interaction between these two, it's just a joy to watch.
Are there any good Ronon/Rodney friendship moments coming up for us in season four?
And I loved Travellers. It was entertaining from start to finish and left me with a big cheesy grin on my face. Keep up the good work.
Joe, I'm scared that you know so much about Falcon Crest- or that only Cookie Monster?
My wish list for Season 5 is for more Michael (although I'd like Connor Trinneer to get some other work as well!). He told us that he had filmed two episodes for season 4, but then I read elsewhere it was 3 eps. Can you confirm?
Feminine wiles to me should not be used in business or battle. Larrin is the leader of her people. She should not have had to pull that card out of her bag of tricks.
Picture this situation: Elizabeth Weir and Koyla are alone on Atantis battling it out for ownership of the city. Would Elizabeth have done the kiss to get the gun trick?
I don't believe she would have. She would not have thought of it. We the viewers would have expected her to use her mind and outmaneuver him.
Enjoyed Travelers. Fun to watch Will we see more of Sheppard using his Mensa intelligence in season 5? Sure hope so. Very glad you are
okay and will continue to write great episodes for SGA.
Dear Mr. Mallozzi,
As a longtime Stargate fan, I would extend graditude from Croatian fans on everything you've done these years for the franchise. Stargate has a huge fanbase in Croatia, and I'm writing to you on behalf of the oldest Croatian Stargate site Crogate ( http://www.sfcentar.com/crogate ).
Namely, I would be so bold to ask you to spare some of your free time, and answer on few short fan questions from Croatia, which would be published on Crogate. We would be very grateful to you. Thanks in advance.
Yours sincerely,
Miroslav Bartulovic
Crogate editor
Joe,
I'm glad to hear that your blood tests are okay.
My dad had a heart attack two weeks ago and afterwards they told him his cholesterol was to high.
Please take care!
Lulu looks so adorable at the pics!!
Ivana
1)Will this season hold any more angsty farewells?
2)Will the extent and nature of Wraith scientific studies be surprising?
As with all the others, I'm glad your labs returned with the right numbers for you. Just remember how these last few days felt as you eat those delightful creations you photograph...
Thought Travelers was interesting, but something was off and I think it was the directing for me. Story was good, but after a second viewing I think it was the director's choices for pacing and camera placement. I'm spoiled by Peter, Andy and Martin and their very distinct styles. But it was a soild 2-base hit for me. So out of the first 5 you've got 4 home runs and a 2-base hit...not a bad first quarter!!
Hey Joe,
Just a quick question about Dr. Keller. Is she 'simply' an MD, or does she have a specialty/science background too, like Beckett had in genetics?
Joe said "and once you’re done that and made sure to proof-read the entire document, print it up, put it in a big bowl, pour milk over it, and enjoy it for breakfast. Bon Appetit."
LMAO!!! Joe...gotta love you...and that's why you(and the other writers) write for SGA and we watch every week!
Hi Joe -

I'm so glad your test results were good, it can be scary waiting for them! Eat lots of red grapes or red grape juice to help keep the cholesterol in check.
BTW...did you get a separate number for LDL(bad cholesterol) as well as HDL(good cholesterol)and your triglycerides too? I had to request that from my doctor, but it really matters. Your overall cholesterol reading(both LDL and HDL together) isn't the best indicator of whether your cholesterol is ok. http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=183

I became a fan of SGA first and it then led me to watch SG-1. I have watched about 5 yrs worth of SG-1 episodes.(not in order as I DVR them from TV)
I just saw Space Race and thought it was a great show. Very different from most SG-1 episodes. I really liked seeing that side of Sam Carter. The fun-loving, daredevil, edgy, risk-taking side. I know she only risked herself, but it was really eye-opening to see that part of her. Makes me realize why she got into the Stargate program and ended up in SG-1! I do love Sam just as she is, but it's great to see she has a different side to her.
It would be great to see a bit of that side of her in season 5. Obviously, as a leader she can't be a huge risk taker. But, I don't see why she couldn't do something fun and risky that won't impact Atlantis!
Kimberly
Just wanted to stop by and say a few things :D
I'm glad your tests came back and all is good!
Lulu is adorable!
Congrats on getting a Season 5, I was very, very excited!
Season 4 has been incredible so far and I know it will continue to be, great job to you and everyone involved and like Alipeeps, Doppleganger and Travelers have been my absolute favorites! Actually, all of the episodes have been fantastic!
Have a great week and a Happy Halloween from a New Mexican! :)
Court
Actually, I really like the idea of the Wraith Michael being named Charlie. It has a very "Flowers for Argernon" thing going for it, in a warped and evil way.
Gunslinger!!!good one
AW! lulu looks like a mint humbug!Sweet:)
Hi Joe,
I think that all the episodes from season 4 have been really great so far, except Travelers. It wasnt as interesting as SGA usually is, but I loved the last scene with the team sitting by the table and Rodney's talk with Shep about being kidnapped by a sexy alien. It made me laugh.
I've noticed that Major Lorne has become more popular in SGA. I've also read that we'll see more of him and his personal life (on earth) this season.
He's the father of Teyla's baby, isn't he?
I really like your dogs. Any chance they'll have a role in season 5? Maybe in one of the villages the team visits?
Yay for the "everything normal" test results!
And "Travelers" was another enjoyable ep. The season is off to a great start.
Hi Joe
I was reading a report from Multichannel News saying that the season has averaged 1.39 million live viewers so far. We know Adrift had 1.7 million liver viewers, and Lifeline wasn't much lower than that, so I take it Reuinion and Doppelganger were much lower?
It's a shame if true. Perhapse more people are just DVRing them after the premiere?
I read this review of Travelers and it summed up how I felt about the episode, so I thought you might like to read it!
http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/10/27/stargate-atlantis-travelers/
Will the McKay becoming a dad story get picked up now that there is going to be a season 5 or has that been thrown out altogether?
Elizabeth writes: “Who is 'the guy in Washington'?”
Answer: Jack O’Neill.
-------------
Thank you, Joe! I actually didn't think you were going to answer this. Will we see anymore subtle Sam/Jack shippy hints during season 4, akin to the fishing and Jack photos we saw in Reunion? T'would be lovely :-)
Congrats on the test results; go out and celebrate! :-)
Hi Joe,
I LOVED Travelers - one of the best episodes ever! It totally rocked! Season 4 has been awesome to date! I loved seeing Shep use his gene and of course, the whump was the icing on the cake. One question though - how was Larrin able to use the Life Signs Detector?
Here's a question Joe, although I know that you haven't started writing season 5 yet. With Christopher Heyerdahl now getting employed by you guys to be the Common Ground Wraith and other Wraith, are we likely to see Halling make a return?
i have been knitting and watching lots of sga and i keep having all these questions, so i thought maybe here is a good place to ask. i am not seeing stuff in order, so maybe that is why some stuff in confusing, but here are my questions.
in doppleganger, at the end everybody who was possessed can't sleep and is in the lunchroom, but lorne is missing and sam is there instead. i like sam, but all the others had been possessed and lorne was possessed and it is confusing that he was not there and she was. was there a special reason?
in the game did your props ppl build that velocipede? it looks SO NEAT!
why the wraiths suddenly change from all looking the same to all being different? i really liked them all looking like twins (i have 2 wraith families in my sims game that all look the same. seeing wraiths having pillow fights and relaxing in hot tubs and bowling is very silly and fun!) so i am just curious why that got changed. did it start with michael cause you had the other actor and just went on from there? is there a logic of why some dress all gothy and some wear the funny masks or is it just for looking neat?
how come in sateda carson and rodney were acting like they were not friends at all, but in other episodes they act like they are very good friends? that was sort of confusing.
your lulu is a pretty little jail bird!
i think for the crispy pork dilemma just asking ppl to pass things is the best thing. and probalby less messy than diving across the table yelling "mine!mine!mine!" but i spose that would work too!
one stuff is not new and does not leak dye and if you have a gentle detergent that does not pull dye out of fabric, you can mix colors pretty easy, but it is good to not mix delicate stuff with blue jeans. oops.
Your wife is cute. She has a nice smile. How does she feel about what you do for a living? Is she a scifi fan? If so, out of the Stargate Universe what scifi shows does she like?
Joe,
I've been absent for quite some time but I just wanted to say congrats on the season 5 pick up and double congrats on the good news regarding your blood test results!
Your misadventure with the washing machine can probably be explained by the fact that you seem to posess overly advanced technology there... mine has an on/off button, a row of buttons for wools/delicates/cotton and a temperature dial. Still does the washing... you might want to consider downgrading ;)
I had quite prejudged the Thomas Covenant book according to the opinion of a friend, and refused to read it as a result... but your reaction to it seems to be along the same lines as mine...
However Donaldson's Gap series comes highly recommended so I am giving it a try.
Have you ever read the Book of Lost Things by John Connolly? It's *fantastic* and quite unstereotypical.
Mary
Upon watching "Doppleganger" a few more times, I am compelled to ask: has Robert Cooper been perusing fanfic? Because that episode was like a really, really good piece of fanfic, and a wonderful treat to the fans to boot. Jus' wonderin'.
I didn't like Travelers. I was nothing but disappointed by it.
The story had so much potential (I love the idea of Travelers as a race!) and it had lots of other things I adored to bits (for example John in the command chair! ancient warship! competent, hot!Sheppard, morse code! worried team! Sheppard!whump, Rodney in charge! (seriously... as much as I loved that, where the hell was Sam?) and the ancient tech lighting up under John will *never* stop being sexy), but you just had to go for the John/hot alien woman story again, didn't you?
And boy was it cringe-worthy. I know I would have loved the episode without the forced romantic plot (I really did like the chemistry between Sheppard & whoever the chick was).
I can only hope the next week's episode will be good enough to return me my love for the show because... at the moment I'm so put off. ~__~
(...and was I the only one who was boggled that Sheppard didn't hit her back after the THIRD TIME she punched him? *rolls eyes* Way to go John.)
*waves*
Better late than never! have you missed me? :D
Glad the test results came out good. Must be all that wholesome home cooking you eat. ;)
I think I told you my thoughts on Travelers, didn't I? I can't remember. Oh well to be succinct (there's a first). *SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE* How's that for short and sweet? :D
What on earth did you do to Lulu, she does not look a happy camper at all. Bless her.
Just a couple of things before I disappear.
"Anonymous who is not feeling the Travelers luff has said...

Picture this anon! The Ancients have returned to claim Atlantis back. So, the team return back to the SGC. But wait! Oh no, a replicator attack. The team must save Atlantis, but no access to the PJ. Oh dear what's a girl to do! On cue here come's Lizzie with her 'feminine wiles' to distract the easily distracted by womanly charms Dr Lee! Lizzie flirts outrageously with him, while McKay gains access to the codes! Mission successful, flirting by Lizzie completed and Dr Lee is left wondering if he was in with a shot with Weir... You're right, No feminine wiles used by the [fromer] leader of the Atlantis expedition... :D
Quick question before I go. Who's in the lead with regards to being in the infirmary at the end of season 4. (As a patient; felt the need to clarify) ;)
*hugs*
I'm confused by all the questions about the Tria. I thought I saw/read/heard that the Replicators have it, having learned of it's existence and position from Helia's mind probe. I don't read fan-fiction, so I couldn't have gotten that idea from there. Perhaps I just assumed it? Can you confirm?
"Anonymous #1 writes: “Zabadoo writes: 2.)Will any other major characters (Sheppard, Ronan, Teyla, McKay, Zelenka, Keller, Carter) bite the dust this season?”
Answers: 2)
You left the answer to this question blank. Was that deliberate or was it just a typo?”
Answer:
I hope you were just having some fun with this answer. Because, if not, why would anyone waste their time getting emotionally connected with any of the new characters (and maybe distancing themselves from the old ones) if they keep being used as cannon fodder. As you know, SG1 was successful for so many years because it had a stable cast of characters that fans had time to get to know and love.
As proven with Beckett in “Sunday”, death doesn’t equal good ratings.
Will we see more episodes like 'Sunday' where we see the characters having a day off?
Will Keller be back in Season 5? Will we see more about her background in Season 4?
Any chance you can 'pass the torch' and let all of the cast members of Atlantis write an episode script for season 6..

Wat up Joe Dawg?
heh
1)I keep reading posts about
people askin when Ford is
comin back... but wat about
Lucuis when is he coming back?
2)Can you borrow me $275? I want to buy a Wii. :D
with the whole ford topic up in the air... originally when i saw his final episode i though he's a sneaky guy and maybe he escaped.... so for some it may not have been closure to his character... would that be taken into consideration?
Mr. Mallozzi, we have learned from SGA "The Ark of Truth" that the SGC possesses the means to protect Atlantis via the Asgard technology (Asgard super computer). So, my question gos, when will Atlantis be outfitted with Asgard beam weapons and space weapons platforms? Seconded, when will the Atlantis team learn the secret of manufacturing ZED-PMS so that they are not always scrambling, like on a Easter-egg hunt??
Mr. Joe, I haven't had the pleasure of reading your blog before as I have recently come across it in the SciFi Channel Forums. Cute dog! I love dogs in all shapes and sizes.
Well, here I just wanted to post a comment and a question (which if at all possible I would appreciate an answer :)). I love the wraith.
They are an awesome "race" of beings inhabiting the Atlantian landscape. I know many fans are fascinated by them as well and the possibilities villains such as these bring to a show (I think of the Joker in Dark Knight Returns): good vs. evil, the paradox of the human condition bla, bla, bla. I'm wondering if season five will discuss the issue of their origin (it seems to me they are either failed ancients or one of the plethora of experiments the ancients performed on various space denizens)? I would love to see camaraderie develop between wraith and humans (romance, at the very least friendship). James L., Andee F., and Brendan P./Christopher H. (Todd) to name a few have endowed their wraith characters with beauty, viciousness and elegance; and above made these green space suckers the embodiment of sexy--Now that's a feat!
Anyhow, I rant on.
Thank you for the read and this place for a fan to leave comments.
:0)
This is the first time I've posted...(I think? ;)) I wanted to comment on how much I love the wraith: THEY are most excellent baddies. With that said, I hope the show does not develop them with only a simple insect hive society—no humour, or lust just large mandibles and goopy wall hangings. Yes, yes of course they are evil; Bad Bad bla bla bla, this is all I hear whenever I’m in the real world. Nevertheless, they are deliciously evil and all too relatable. It's odd, the more evil characters mirror us, the more fascinating they are to watch and the more addicting the thrill of watching them becomes, along with a coke and a bag of Tostitos. So, my question is: will they be shown to be more human like (sex, drugs and rock n’roll) or insect like (gooey somethin’, pod laying and whatever else insects do).
Signed: Hopeful Wraith Cake :)
Anna writes: “How many dogs do you have and what are their names? And are they siblings? Did you adopt them from a shelter?”

Hey Joe, I've enjoyed your blog tremendously esp. with the author interviews. Paul Wilson's Q&A was fascinating and a treat to read his thoughts on writing.
I have a question, which may have been asked before, but I was wondering about season five. There are only twelve seasons posted at GateWorld so far for SGA. I'm wondering whether the studios have said "Well, here is a short tether, therefore we will only allow twelve episodes for this season instead of the regular twenty." I really hope season five also contains twenty. Have you not finished writing the next eight or are you fixed to twelve?
Thanks
