It really hasn’t been my month. And a half. First it was my tooth, then my shoulder, then my eye, and now, this morning, I wake up to discover I’m suffering an extreme allergic reaction to.. something. Could’ve been the antibiotics I was taking for my eye infection. Could’ve been the new laundry detergent. Hell, it could’ve been the Hugarian food and/or Old Tyme ginger beer I had the other night (although I sincerely hope not). Whatever the cause, I decided I wouldn’t be heading into work today looking like a mottled lobster so I showered, dressed, and went to the hospital.
It was a little after 6:30 a.m. when I got there and, surprisingly, it wasn’t all that busy. I checked in with reception, spent some time in the waiting room, had my name called and was directed to a check-in area where I was asked some general questions and had my blood pressure checked, directed to another waiting room, summoned over to the other reception area where another woman took down my pertinent information, directed to yet another waiting room, had my name called again and subsequently escorted into a room (No. 3) where I was told to strip down and put on one of those modesty gowns. There, I waited. Another nurse came in and examined me. She hadn’t a clue what was wrong but assured me the doctor was far more knowledgeable about these things. I waited some more. Eventually, a young doctor came in and introduced herself as one of the new residents. She asked me a couple of questions, looked me over, and frowned. She had the look of someone about to embark on one of those Ikea build-it-yourself adventures who realizes their package didn’t include the Allen key. No idea. Guesses? She informed me it could be anything from a delayed reaction to the Amoxicillin I was taking to a possible liver problem. Liver problem? How Movie of the Week! “Possible but unlikely,”she tried to reassure me before disappearing. Even more waiting and then the final doctor arrived. Given that I’d had my physical just two weeks ago, he was able to check the blood results and confirm my liver was normal. The fact that I had no other symptoms (nausea, headache, joint pain, sore throat) dismissed measles, scarlet fever, and the like. By process of elimination, it’s definitely an allergy caused by: a) the antibiotics I was taking, b) our new laundry detergent, c) Hungarian food. However other possible suspects could include the following atypical items I introduced into my routine over the past couple of days: 1) papaya, 2) ginger beer, 3) The Fratellis CD I picked up from HMV, 4) Connie Willis’s Doomsday Book which, coincidentally enough, focuses on a time traveler trapped in the 14th century at the time of the plague.
In the end, the doctor told me that he had contacted the hospital’s dermatology department and that they would give me a call later in the day to check me out and run some tests that would either confirm or eliminate penicillin as the culprit.
I headed home and re-washed all of my clothes (just in case), read, and, of course, waited. Until about 2:30 p.m. when, fed up, I just hopped back into my car and drove to a clinic where I was seen in less than ten minutes (Which may not sound all that impressive but I come from Montreal where seeing an emergency room attendant can take anywhere from two hours to two days) by a very nice doctor who asked me a couple of questions, took a look at my rash and determined that, given the timing of the medication and the “classic appearance” of the flare-up (sort of the Clark Gable of rashes), it was all but certainly a reaction to the medication. So it looks like I can eat Hungarian food, drink ginger beer, and listen to the Fratellis while reading Connie Willis. I wish I’d known sooner as it would have saved much aggravation. And laundry.
Approximately 65 000 more visits to 750 000!

Answer: The fact that she joined the Atlantis expedition would contradict your last statement. As for being nothing more than book read, she demonstrated the coolness under pressure that got her the position in Adrift, saving Weir’s life as the situation deteriorated around her. Of course she wasn’t being chased by cannibals at the time.

When you wrote Camelot's cliff-hanger ending, did you know whether it was the Korolev or the Odyssey which had been destroyed, or was that decision left for season 10? A friend of mine is convinced you originally intended to have Odyssey as the ship destroyed, since TWO regulars (Daniel and Mitchell) were on Korolev, but Odyssey only had (potentially expendable) recurring characters on board at the time. Is there any truth to this?

As a gag, a group of us bought the Jones Cola Thanksgiving dinner pack last year. And I have to tell you... It was absolutely disgusting. Even the Cranberry Sauce, which is basically a cherry-like cola, was bad. Like, spit it out and run for the bathroom bad. Count yourself as lucky that you never had to go through that.
Although my friends and I, wanting to be thorough and hoping they would get better, tried every single one. I don't think there was anyone who wasn't a little sick that night.

I'm off to see Star Trek's "Menagerie" in a theater tonight! Apparently it's being shown in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia will be gathering tonight in theaters.
I'm hoping that with the success of SG1, SGA, the two (so far) made-for-dvd SG1 movies -- that in the near future, we can all be gathering as one fandom in a theater to watch a feature SG1/SGA movie!

When you were in the hospital did you use the opportunity to ask, "So, you know, as a doctor, if you were on an alien planet being hunted down by cannibals, what do you think your reaction would be?". Not only the kind of investigative research that we fans rely on, but you may have gotten access to the really good drugs.
Which probably would then have resulted in another allergic reaction.

I'm sorry to hear about your allergic reaction! My husband had something similar happen a while back, and they never tracked down the cause. It hasn't happened since (I've stopped using any kind of fabric softener; I'm not sure it's relevant, but rewashing your clothes certainly couldn't hurt). It's pretty scary when it happens. Does this mean you can stop taking the antibiotic, or had you already stopped?
You know, I like the Fratellis, and I love Connie Willis, but I would never combine them. I hesitate to think about the results:

One reason I watch SGA & SG1 is that it's not in what people would call our reality noted by the genre SciFi. So why do these fans want to put medical,government or business rules or regulations into the shows? I understand that in almost any genre show some of those things shine through but to put strict regulations on one character and no other defeats the porpose of creating that character.
This isn't a show about the US medical community or there regulations after all.
Just went and voted for Atlantis at the People's Choice Awards site--I'm glad we finally have the opportunity.

It's interesting that so many people are upset with Keller's reactions and fear in the face of danger. I have to admit that I too felt irritated with her while watching Missing, but, thinking about it later, I realized that her behavior was very realistic and normal.
Unfortunately, it's not as much fun to watch 'normal' people as it is to watch those who exhibit super-human bravery (Sheppard) or last minute uncharacteristically heroic behavior (McKay).

My twin sister is allergic to pineapple... it isn't life threatening, just funny as hell to those of us who she routinely pisses off. Her reaction to bee stings is also pretty spectacular. And when she got conjunctivitis (made worse by her cat allergy which also brought on the asthma she hasn't had trouble with for years) she got blisters on her eyeballs. Awesome and disgustingly brilliant.
Heh. You don't annoy me though, so you can have her share of my sympathy. Use it well!
Oh, and I haven't been drinking. You would know if I had, because I would be up a tree eating ice cream.

Is Sam in season four at all??? I've been waiting to see her play some sort of real role in SGA, but seven weeks in and still nothing. It just reeks of a ploy to get ratings. Ratings go up in Missing after she is featured in Tabula Rasa somewhat but now I predict they will just go down again.
Have you read the IGN review of Missing? Everyone is curious.

I'm sorry to hear about your new allergy. But I do have to say I found it slightly humorous since I had a lunch long debate about my same allergy with my father yesterday. He thinks I should be wearing a medical alert bracelet. Do you plan on getting an alert bracelet/necklace?
Sorry you're feeling poorly. When my son was a child, he had the same allergic reaction to Amoxcillin, breaking out into huge red and purple-black blotches all over his body. If you spent any time in the sun while taking it, that's probably what triggered the reaction.
Re Dr. Keller, considering how many times Carson Beckett reacted with fear over the first two and a half years, do you agree that Dr. Keller is being judged according to a double standard?
I haven't tried them myself, and I'm not really inclined to, but the Christmas and Hanukkah variety packs are available from http://www.jonessodastore.com. MOst Jones sodas are very tasty, but I'm not sure how I feel about soda that claims to be Christmas tree-flavored.

At least it wasn't a deadly reaction, some people's throats swell shut and all kinds of horrible things. Although, you may want to be careful with an allergy to drugs. The reactions can get worse over time. My mom only has a few antibiotics left that she can use without an allergic reaction. I'm hoping I don't have her genes in that area.
Did you see Oceans 13? Do you look as bad as the hotel reviewer in that movie? (major red spots all over his face)

I think Tabula Rasa was one of the best episodes of Stargate Atlantis to date. The story itself was great: it had me on the edge of my seat. Visually, it was stunning. I loved the look Martin Wood created. You weren't kidding when you said season 4 was going to be great! It really is shaping up to be the best season ever. I can't wait for next week's episode. Welcome to the club (of those allergic to penicillin and all its chemical cousins). It's probably easier than being allergic to certain soaps and dyes in laundry-related products and the like (but it does give you an excuse to tell off people overdosing on obnoxious scents).

I just wanted to say that Jewel was absolutely wonderful in "Missing".
Keller's reactions to bad situations, freaky bad guys, Teyla's (apparent) abandonment, pain, and shear terror were believable and understandable, and she really sold me when her "brave little toaster" really kicked in. I cheered at "First I need something to heal." She's a great addition to the show.
After many excellent episodes this season, I found "Missing" boring. It was one long chase and fight sequence with character scenes interspersed that may have been informative but were, in my opinion, dull. I can't help thinking that even chased by cannibals, Jack and Daniel, Daniel and Cameron, Cameron and Teal'c, Rodney and John, John and Ronon, Ronon and Rodney, Loren and Rodney, Radik and anyone of these guys... would have made it fun. I can't help but think that if you didn't write some banter for them, they would have adlibbed it, or if they couldn't do that, then added in some fun in the looks, expressions, or some kind of playfulness... yes, even in such a dire situation, like they always do in clock-ticking situations. To me, this episode was no fun at all to watch, nor did it make me feel for their jeopardy. For the first time all season, I couldn't wait for it to be over.
On a totally different note, I saw an Atlantis alumni on the Picket line today as SAG joined WGA outside of NBC Universal. No it wasn't Carl -- if he was there, I didn't see him. But in the hordes, who knows?
It was Robert Patrick from the pilot "Rising" whose character the Wraith killed. He was there with his buddies from "The Unit"...
There were many actors from many different shows and actors who I haven't seen recently as well. I even saw a couple who were from shows I worked on, whom I haven't seen for a while. It was great to see them in the sense that they did bring out a lot of media. Hopefully, we'll get some good press out of it because the actors really stepped up and talked well. I made sure I thanked anyone whom I recognized or who wore a SAG T-shirt or a carried a sign saying SAG supports WGA, thanked them for coming out in support of us.
The best sign I saw today was "Hitler hated artists, too." We had a lot of welcome horn honking too, including a humongous truck that nearly took out all our eardrums. I know I jumped.

Just to throw my two cents into the Keller debate: Why does fear make a person unsuitable for a job? Carson was afraid of even going through the stargate. Don't automatically dislike a character because you feel loyalty for another.

Anyway, I read that David teased Paul on the Kindred set since he blew up. Something about calling him snack-sized? Any truth to this?

After years with no problem, I got a penicillin rash too, although I was too lazy to go to a doctor and just described it to a nurse on the phone. I hope they told you your reaction could be worse the next time you take penicillin-like drugs, so you shouldn't. :)
In spite of it being a bad month, such experiences will de-sensitize you to the ever more frequent weird things your body will do now that you're closer to 40 than 30. Enjoy the ride. :P

Get well soon. Take care of yourself. I love Keller and Jewel that plays her. *Throws a shoe* at those that don't...*runs away like a little girl*. I think her character fits very nicely into the mix and gives the show a real feeling it was lacking. Her character is a normal woman, with fears and expectations that she needs to overcome. I think Keller can develop into a top character on the show. I know everyone says "Bring back Beckett" and I did like him as well but she is a breath of fresh air. As for a question...I have none I will save ti for when your feeling better. Take care.

Sorry to hear about the rash - I woke up with a mystery rash last year and the doctor told me that it was the worst case of whatever the hell it was he'd ever seen. If they didn't give you anything interesting to treat it, I recommend antihistamines and cursing the fates.

Have you thought maybe that chilli was no good or some kind of metal poison (I'm assuming it was the can kind) recently there was a massive recall of can chili. Just so you know.
Cold, wet cloth helps with irritable skin. you can also buy antihistamines without prescription that helps a lot too but might make you a little drowsy.
I really hope you are not allergic to Penecillin, but then again if you are, there are alternatives to it plus must penecillin allergies diminish with time.
worst case scenario they will schedual a skin test(when you no longer have irritated skin) to determine how severe your allergic reaction to penecillin is and work from there.

For what it's worth, I never much liked Beckett and thought making him main character instead of a support was a mistake. I am tired of all the negative comments about Keller that are appearing on this blog. I ask them: if you were in an alien galazy and "offworld" for one of the first times EVER and you were caught in an unexpected situation that involved CANNIBALS chasing you, no real weapons at hand and only Teyla to keep you safe, wouldn't you all completely and utterly FREAK OUT????!!!!

If they're good, will you admit once and for all that the decision by you (with Weir) and others (with Beckett) were wrong and shortsighted?
People want to see them, not some transplant from another show. The fact Carter fans have come over doesn't mean much given the number of Weir and Beckett fans you lost, as was obvious from the recent conventions when people actually said while asking questions that they were no longer watching the show (in the case of Torri, at least)

I ask myself that every episode, but then I get distracted by the bigger, much more important question: Why isn't David Hewlett's wondrous bum in every shot?
What is he doing facing the camera when he could be running away and getting shot at with arrows all the time? Thus requiring a later showing of boxers to look at his injuries. Heck, if Keller can make McKay take off his shirt (for *insert medical or who-cares-what reason*), she can kick puppies and marry a Wraith and I'd still love her.

I spent the past few weeks in US and managed to catch the show thanks to some well meaning friends. I found it a bit odd that Carter's role is not solid. In fact, there is not much about her in Atlantis except she is the leader. I am assuming its like "lets get her feet wet before throwing her into major story lines" situation. I am also assuming that its the best course not to disturb the current load share of the key characters and their interactions. Carter is still new and has not proven herself and I am hoping someone down the road, she will prove herself to finally earn the respect of all especially Teyla and Ronon. Any thoughts on that?

Have you just finished your course of tablets, by any chance? The one time a particularly brainless medical "professional" gave me penicillin anyway, the rash/reaction flared up straight after I finished taking taking the tablets. I hope the clinic Dr gave you antihistamines to combat the reaction?
Hopefully the uptick in ratings (great news btw - hope the trend continues!) will help you to smile bravely on through these trials... :)

Allergic reactions are the most fun in terms of what it does to the human body. I'm most fond of the runny nose, itchy skin, restricted breathing, burning watery eyes, and itchy swollen lips I get when exposed to cats.
When you listed your symptoms my first thoughts were that you had a penicillin allergy b/c I react the same way to penicillin (now I get to take the more expensive antibiotics!)
A family friend brought back a box of truffles from Williams Chocolate (in Whitby, ON.) Have you tried any of their chocolates? I think they are pretty good. But, I think I will stick to my hometown chocolatier Bernard Callebaut (much more accessible.)
BTW, did you know that you can vote everyday at the People's Choice Awards website? I've been voting everyday for SGA. I hope the show gets the recognition it deserves.

The fourth season is a great season I like it and I enjoy it, and I think it seems a "dark" season.

I think Mr. Mallozzi answered this already months ago, when he addressed those Atlantis fans that wanted the show focused on the Atlantis characters, not on a character coming from another show. His reply, to the best of my knowledge, was that Sam would have a role not unlike General Hammond and Landry, and that the focus would be on the team (John, Rodney, Ronon and Teyla). And, in my opinion, it's the way it should be. Elizabeth didn't have much screen time either, mostly, unless it was a city episode (like Tabula Rasa, which had more Sam in the same way that it would've had more Liz). There were several episodes where Elizabeth didn't appear at all either, so I don't see why Sam should be appearing, just because it's Sam.
Thanks, Mr. Mallozzi, for keeping your word. I like Sam as the base commander (still prefer Liz, though), but I want the focus on the John, Rodney, Teyla and Ronon, with Radek and Lorne helping some times. This Atlantis fan is happy so far and hopes things stay this way.

a)How come there are constant references to Carson Beckett and none regarding Elizabeth? has no-one missed her?
b)Tabula Rasa reminded me of something and it took two viewings for me to realise that I too seem to spend a lot of time trying to recall what I was doing/looking for/where I put and how did I do that in the first place.

Just saw Tabula Rasa last night (UK viewer we're a weekand half behind) and i thought it was great.
I loved the whole concept. The city coming down with the Pegasus galaxy's version of shingles. The memory loss was done exceptionally well, particulary the soldiers not quite sure why they're rounding people up but that they have to do it.
Question, the whole Teyla fight scene stunt double or not, i figure for the running down the hall, with a beautiful skid, would have had to be?

I find people's reaction to Keller amazing. How many of them would have reacted any better? She's a midwestern girl who's a doctor not a war veteran!
Speaking of one with a fear of heights the fact that she crossed the bridge was a feat of bravery.
She didn't admits she doesn't have fighting skills, but still rose to the ocassion (sort of) by getting the short sword, shooting the man in the leg, and she had the sense to give the bad guys a gate address to an empty world.
She didn't run away; she didn't faint; she didn't give away pertinent information.
In my book, she's a very good,believeable character.
Joe, sounds like you've been field testing Rodney's latest imagined medical maladies! Seriously, allergies to medication are no fun and can be dangerous. I still have nightmares about the time I was in the emergency room with my Mom and we were stuck filling out paperwork as her throat was swelling shut... Anyway, take care of yourself!
Adding to the debate over Keller's behavior prior to and in "Missing", she seems to have suffered from a HUGE lack of confidence in her own abilities. One of the most compelling ideas in any story is watching the "non-heroic" characters grow in ways even they don't expect.
Just a quick note to say that while I had some serious reservations about the cast changes for this season, I am pleased to say I have really enjoyed S4 so far. While I wasn't sure about Keller, I thought her demeanor in Missing was a great foil for Teyla. She brought a fresh point of view to the whole "stranded in the forest running from enemies" scenario. She had relatable, normal reactions and showed growth through the episode. (Although, perhaps my favorite Missing scene was the lollipop eating cannibal shot.) While I do still miss Carson, Missing has made Keller more interesting and I have come to enjoy her character. This is a product of both the way her character has been written and the performance of the actress. While Carson was a geneticist, do we know Keller's medical specialty?

Answer: The fact that she joined the Atlantis expedition would contradict your last statement. It seems reasonable to think that the Pegasus expedition team was hand-picked after careful deliberation and review of their qualifications(including psych evaluations, special training, etc.). One would think that a project of this magnitude would require the best and brightest, not just anyone who cares to sign up. Would you mind clarifying that? BTW, McKay and Beckett, in my opinion qualify as best as brightest.

Well, now that we know Keller will freak out during alien encounters, would YOU want her watching your back on a mission? I sure wouldn't want that wimp around me in a dangerous situation! Yes, Carson could get scared, but it didn't prevent him from functioning. When are you people going to admit killing Carson was a major faux paux?
As for the meds, if you are allergic to amoxicillan, you probably can't take super drug Cipro either. I had a reaction to Cipro and the emergency room doctor was furious that anyone would give me Cipro when my chart was clearly marked "NO PENICILLAN" - apparently the drugs are related somehow. Ask your doc about it. :o)

I also really liked the Rodney/Katie scenes; for once, Rodney's more jerk-like aspects get played down, which I really enjoyed.

Oh, Joe. Poor you. I hope you feel better. Seems strange, though, for you to develop an allergic reaction so late in life. Or are you one of the people who have never had to use such medication before?
Under ten minutes is very good for a clinic. I find time to see a doctor is based on a bell curve according to size of the general area. For example, my normal home town area, you can see a doctor, emergency or otherwise, within 20 minutes and under. But go to a small town (usually under 30,000 people) and if you don't have an appointment, they won't see you. Go to a big city/big city hospital (100,000+) and you either have to have an appointment or you might sit in the emergency room internally bleeding for an entire day.

I have a career related question for you...
I'm in University and I haven't been able to decide what I want to do. It's not that I have no clue what I want to do, but that I want to do too many different things. Make sense? I've bounced around from Anthropology to Psychology to English.
I'm just curious about your career... how you started out, what you were doing while you were still in school, etc. I can read your resume on IMDB but it only tells me so much. I wanted to take advantage of the fact that you are pretty accessible and see if you'd give me a bit more insight on your career.
I know this is a broad question, but any sort of answer you are willing to give would be extremely useful!

Quick question about the end of Missing... why did just Rodney, Ronan & Shep go to the rescue? It seems to me that if they suspected something was wrong, and certainly after they came thru and saw the Bolo Kai they would radio Atlantis (while the wormhole was still active from the Atlantis end) and ask for reinforcements. They could have been walking/flying into anything... just curious about that, since we saw more people go in to rescue the team during Reunion and other episodes.
While I think Keller was believable as a person who is out of their element in Missing - I still don't see how she was "most qualified" to be the CMO - to be a medical doctor on Atlantis, ok, but to be in charge? At 37, I have gotten used to doctors looking a LOT younger than me, but not the "head" doctor :).
That said, I usually just suspend my disbelief because I am really loving season 4! So thanks.

Do you not think it would be better if rather than writing 10 million word long blog posts every day about dogs, what you eat for dinner and trivial things such as those... you actually did some work to make sure that Atlantis' ratings don't keep plumetting week in week out?
Your boys have already ruined SG-1 for me post-season 7 and I'd hate Atlantis to lose that much quality so easily as well.
'Unending' was a complete embarrassment and a huge slap in the face to us fans (at least the ones that don't worship at the alter of Stargate producers). Who's bright idea was it to have a 45 minute depressing episode without RDA and with a giant reset button at the end, killing off the Asgard suddenly and stupidly in the opening 5 minutes?
Anyway, as I said, I once thought Stargate was in good hands, but ever since I was subjected to garbage episodes like of '200', 'Bad Guys' 'Company of Thieves' and 'Unending', I just pray that Atlantis continues to be decent television, and hopefully improve.
Oh and please for the love of god get rid of Dr. Lee. Awful waste of space who can't act, and is the most cliched and annoying of characters ever seen in sci-fi.
Finally it may have helped SG-1's credibility in later seasons had every other episode not ended in a 'last second beam out by the Odyssey/Daedalus' deux ex machina. It was a convenient and cop out way of resolving stories, by having the characters beam out at the last second. Whatever happened to SG-1 exploring the galaxy through the Stargate?
Hopefully we won't get any more of the 'Hunt for the Ancient weapon/device/crystal' plot device that appeared once or twice in every one of the later SG-1 seasons.

I've been struggling with a similar health issue, Joe.
On August 1st I rescued a feral kitten and the very next morning I woke up with hives. About 15 little mosquito-sized legions at first then, a week later, that shot up to 85-90. After several visits to the doctor and numerous experiments with drugs and ointments we've -- or at least I have -- come to the conclusion that I am allergic to Tiamat's dander and fur, as we've pretty much eliminated everything else, from the shampoo I'm using to the food I've been eating.
I suspect I will be struggling with hives (I'm still covered head to toe in them, despite the medication and creams) so long as Tia remains in my home, or until my body has finally developed an immunity to the irritants.
I don't care how much pain I'm in or how much money the drugs cost, Tia is my baby daughter and I aint letting her go!

(3) If I were Dr. Keller, after everything that happened in "Missing" I'd really want to learn some martial arts or fighting techniques. Is that going to happen?

The problem with Keller is not her reactions, it's that people don't find her entertaining. Who wants to watch realism? (It's a show about Atlantis) Now I'm not saying Keller would make me stop watching Atlantis but I think I will be skipping any episode she's featured heavily in. Life's too short.

When the writers, producers, etc. decided to make changes to the SGA cast, I'm sure they knew it would spark at least some criticism and backlash from some fans (obviously, you can't please everyone).
How much consideration was the possible magnitude of the negative response given (especially considering ratings and the show's future)in contrast to the writers' desires to move the story forward in a certain direction and keep things fresh? How, in the end, was it determined that such changes were "worth it"?

Having seen ‘Missing’ can I just say this season is seven for seven. I really enjoyed seeing the new darker side to Teyla and this was a real girl power episode. Awesome!
I don’t really see why people are so harsh on Keller. Her reaction was a realistic one to the circumstances, normal. I liked that we finally have a girly-girl on the show instead of all the woman warrior types we've seen so far. It made an interesting contrast to Teyla and was the perfect foil. Ok I did find her slightly annoying at the start of the episode but considering she has a fear of heights, to cross that bridge showed a lot of bravery. And really she wasn’t any more annoying than Rodney can be once in a while with his hypochondria (tingling in his knees? seriously?)

Hello! Carson was afraid of sitting in the chair. And yes it was played for laughs but then so was some of Keller's reactions in this episode. And you may notice that when it came to her field of expertise, principally the injured genii (?) spy she was confident and more importantly competent. Carson, in the field, has not been any braver. She knows that she has no fighting ability but she showed presence of mind to grab the sword of the injured cannibal and to shoot the spy in the leg. And you seem to have confused Carson's death with Keller’s arrival; they are linked only in the way that afterwards they needed a replacement. They did not get rid of Carson just so they could bring Keller in.
And another thing. Why harp on the same point every day? We get it! You miss Carson (and Weir). So does everyone else but we prefer to focus on the show we love and all the good it has going for it. Besides, Joe has already made his opinion clear. Are you hoping he will change it and say what you want to hear because you wore him down? Hardly likely.
Anyways, that’s my opinion. Sorry for the extremely long comment Joe. I do hope you feel better, and don’t let the disgruntled fans annoy you too much. There are some (many) people out there who love where the show is going and look forward to more.
I once woke up in the middle of the night with large, angry, red, saucer-sized patches of welts all over my body. I took some anti-histamines and woke up in the morning with no sign of anything.
Then it happened the next night. I traced it back to some cookies I had eaten both nights before bed. I looked at the ingredients and recognized all the chemicals but one: Polydimethylsiloxane, which was followed the words in parentheses "anti-foaming agent".
I knew I had eaten all the other chemicals before, so this was my top suspect.
I wondered at first why you would need an anti-foaming agent in a basic sandwich cookie. Then I thought I would look up the chemical and learn more about it.
Aside from its food uses, it is widely used in such things as Silly Putty, silicone caulking, and breast implants. Oh and it can also be used to treat headlice. Yummy.
I haven't eaten those cookies since, and I haven't had another incident.
What I find interesting about all the bashing about Keller in "Missing" is that people seem to forget that Beckett wasn't exactly Mr. Bravery. He was even scared of the drone chair! Both characters are doctors, not soldiers, and it was normal for them to show fear. What makes them a cut above is that they are able to push through that fear... a characteristic both Keller and Beckett share.

Regarding Keller, there can be all the logic in the world about how she behaved, but people react to characters emotionally not logically. Fair to say Keller annoyed a fair numner of fans for their own reasons. That's not the fans fault.

Steve were you and I watching the same episode? The only slap in the face I got was when the Asgard blew themselves up…did not see that coming. Miss those little guys (sob).
Depressing certainly not, to have the characters lives lived out in 45 minutes. To see what could be and what might still be, I found truly fascinating (Daniel going bald no way).
Surely the two hardest things to write scripts for are the beginning and the end of a series especially one as ground breaking as Stargate. I think they did good…no altars or worshiping going on.
I admit we agree on one point they should’ve paid the extra money, had a collection between the runners. Brought RDA in for the last episode, good for closure. Miss that little guy (sob,sob…etc).
Reset button, for the love of mike, don’t you want them to have a way back. Or at the very least that remote idea, that somewhere out there in the Universe, SG1 are causing havoc and mayhem amongst previously peaceful worlds.
I for one feel safer in the knowledge that they are off world!!!
And finally Steve as the saying goes ‘If you’ve got it flaunt it’ a bit silly not to use the beaming technology if it’s there. Don’t you think?
Okay night time rant very nearly over, but what I miss on Atlantis is it being grounded on Earth (no pun intended). When SG1 came back to Earth there was a connection made in a strange…hey I’ve been there/done that… earth..ish kind of way.
Don’t tell me that deep in the back of that steel trap of a mind of yours Steve, that there isn’t a small voice saying “But what if it is real?”
Now a disclaimer for spelling and punctuation of impromptu rant. I have food poisoning and I am probably delirious at this point. If I check Joe’s blog tomorrow when sanity has once more been restored, I will probably die of embarrassment.

New girl here, although I've been an active reader. Love your wicked sense of humor...and your dogs. I've gainded ten pounds just from reading your blog, so life is good. I'm sitting here working on a paper for my master's, home from work with strep throat (Percocet rocks!), and downloading holiday music to my iPod. I'm multitasking, in a strange sort of way. Anyway, your illness and mine brought to mind a question. How do you deal with production issues when one of the actors gets really ill? I get to stay home (contagious, you know)and take really good drugs and you get to go to the hospital and get the run around. How do they cope, especially if they are particularly heavy in the episode?

The problem with Keller is not her reactions, it's that people don't find her entertaining. Who wants to watch realism? (It's a show about Atlantis) Now I'm not saying Keller would make me stop watching Atlantis but I think I will be skipping any episode she's featured heavily in. Life's too short.
Sometimes I think all of this griping about Keller is because some are still pissed that Carson's gone. Keller could have been Wonder Woman and some still wouldn't be happy no matter what. They'll look for every excuse in the world NOT to like Keller because of it.

Pauline I have to admit your post made me laugh. I suppose some of us are a bit more keen to see good clever, storytelling without needing to be wowed by the fact that Daniel loses his hair in a few years time.

What could have been/might still be? What exactly? That they grow old, play a few songs, sing along, then get bored with each others company after so many years on a doomed spaceship, losing their lives completely? Funny, that's certainly not how I wanted to watch our guys in action one last time. Certainly not sitting around on a doomed spaceship, getting depressed.

No I think they should have ended the series on a high after season 6 or 7. Full Circle or Lost City would have made fantastic series finales. None of this Cam/Vala/Landry/Lam rubbish from the later ones.

Um, you do realise that SG-1 isn't 'real' right? It's all fantasy, and make believe? I hope you realise that at least. Anyway, no, what I'd RATHER is not have put SG-1 in such a stupid plot device in the first place, which would therefore not have needed a reset button. Something, oh I don't know to do with what SG-1 was always about, four explorers going through the gate on missions. As I said, Full Circle would have been a fantastic final ep (obviously with tweaking), as would Lost City. Not this garbage 'Unending'.

Again, you realise beaming tech isn't REAL right? Must we have episode dillemas solved at the last second with a convenient beam-out every single week? It smacks of lazy writing, by writers who have lost their way and have no idea how to tell a good story with a decent pay-off. Beaming out at the last second is good once or twice, nice drama involved, but when it happens week in week out on later SG-1 seasons, it just gets boring and tired. The writers should be able to come up with a better pay off.
I'm not surprised ratings have been going downhill for years. When the quality improves, maybe the ratings will as well. Sadly I think the people who got fed up with SG-1 seasons 8, 9 and 10 aren't coming back. I only stay because I (for the most part) enjoy Atlantis.
But I still maintain that the last few seasons of SG-1 were a mess, driven solely by money-grabbing powers that be who refused to end a show with some dignity, instead choosing to blindly press on, change the entire series dynamic and concept (and with it, what made it special in the first place)... only for it to be cancelled.
I hope the same doesn't happen to Atlantis but with the way the ratings are going, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get a season 6.
i'm in sympathy on the "what the hell i'm allergic to?!" thing. for me it's perfumes, inks & dyes. so you might want to think about switching to a "dye & perfume free" laundry detergent & loose whatever aftershave and cologne you might be using. as well as switching to perfume-free soap and shampoo. or nearly perfume-free, as i can't find any that are completely perfume-free.
and if you're thinking; "i've never been allergic to them before" a person's body chemistry changes every few years or so.
or so i've heard.

i just watched missing and i had a couple questions and comments about it.
first i LOVED the rope bridge. that looked SO neat! and fun :)
i also loved the lollipops and the bad guy's (maloki? baloki?) indignance over being accused of wraith worshipping. we might skin and kill other humans, but we are NOT wraith worshippers, so THERE *stomp* (or in his case *whack!*).
i liked teyla losing her temper at keller for her unreasonable expectations of safety when being hunted by cannibals. i was surprised she didn't shush her a LOT more than she did, though. o.O
questions: i thought all the team had the sub-q transmitters? have they been taken out? did teyla never get one?
also why in the WORLD did keller shot nabol (sp?) in the THIGH? he'd already told her he had an exceptionally high pain tolerance, but she and teyla both seemed to believe that he was screaming (louder than rodney with an arrow in his behind!) over a thigh wound when he could run with a freshly stitched abdominal wound. i'd have shot him either multiple times or in the knee. you can't go far with a shattered knee... or is he coming back, so he needed to get away safely?
your dogs are just disgustingly cute. how will lulu be in size compared to the others? will she get much bigger? they sure seem to have accepted her.
