November 23, 2007

I arrived home today to the sight pictured above (Pic #1). My first reaction was “We’ve been robbed!” My second reaction was “Why would the burglars root through the garbage?” Why? Because burglars didn’t root through the damn garbage! The pugs did! While Lulu was at daycare and I was at work, someone (I won’t name names but it could be the same person who left the Halloween chocolates out on the coffee table last year that resulted in the pugs getting mighty sick. Thank God the assortment was made up of Smarties, Crunchies, and KitKats and, thus, contained very little actual chocolate.) left the door to the wok kitchen open, allowing the dog easy access to the garbage bag sitting inside.

At work today, we got a surprise of another sort when Alex Levine walked in with two dozen cream puffs from Beard Papas, a bizarrely named Japanese cream puff chain that opened a franchise at the Aberdeen Center in Richmond and has been doing crazy business. According to reports, you have to go there early weekday mornings because the line-ups on weekends will have you waiting close to two hours! Only original vanilla flavor available today, but delicious nevertheless: two tier pastry (pie crust on the outside, choux pastry on the inside) stuffed with pastry cream and a touch of whipped cream). I ate three in rapid succession before Brad had even finished his first. As good as they were, I don’t know if I would line up for two hours for another dozen - but I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to send Alex back on another run.

And speaking of delightful deliveries - Paul finally received shipment of the new Golden Tee motherboard and hard drive that will allow the office’s avid arcade golfers (that would be everyone except me) to play a slew of new virtual courses. I haven’t seen them this excited since we heard we got picked up. No, check that. I’ve never seen them this excited.

Amidst the unpacking and the Golden Teeing and the general cream puffery, we did manage to sit down and watch a Day 1 Mix of Midway. Damn fine episode. Teal’c and Ronon kick mucho wraith ass - when they’re not beating the crap out of each other.

Today’s pics: Drop zone, the cream puffs, the chocolate Fondy brought me back from Montreal, like kids in a candy store

Today’s mailbag:

GrapesofWraith writes: “I was wondering what was your first experience in script writing? And would you recommend buying a script writing program, or just using my regular word processor?”

Answer: My very first paying gig was a script I wrote for The Busy World of Richard Scarry, an episode titled Patrick Pig Learns to Talk. And, yes, I would definitely recommend buying a scriptwriting program (we use Movie Magic Screenwriter). Despite a writer’s best efforts, word processor scripts always look amateurish.

A.Q.J. writes: “Q: which scene in the whole 4-seasons of SGA do you love most? Finally, the humor in the show is more than jokes to made! i love them all, i laugh on them more than anything else. Q: how much is your participation in that humor?”

Answers: Off the top of my head, my favorite scene is probably the surprise kiss in Duet. As for the humor - all of the writers throw out ideas and suggest funny lines during the breaking session after which it is up to the writers to incorporate the funny lines (in addition to the countless others he has come up with), then it is the actor’s turn to deliver the line in a funny way, the director’s job to capture it, and the editor’s job to find the best take.

Mackenzies Momma writes: “Whats the one thing you most want for christmas?”

Answer: The time to go back to Japan and Hong Kong.

Palmereldritch writes: “Joe, if you were able to design your own Joe Mallozzi celebrity sandwich, what would it be?”

Answer: Pacific salmon with light mayonnaise and chopped green onions with avocado and sliced cucumbers on toasted multi-grain.

Amelia writes: “Re Pauline's comment about Scotch Eggs…”

Answer: What’s a Scotch Egg? They sound delicious.

Tesajb writes: “ So what are your plans for the weekend?”

Answer: Finally make some headway on Dan Simmons’ Summer of Night. Oooh. Spooooky.

Mrsb108 writes: “Will there be any mysteries left unsolved crossing over to Season 5?”

Answer: Oh yeah.

Anonymous #1 writes: “Exactly how long is this boring baby storyline going to be on screen in Season Five?”

Answer: Darn that Rachel. We kept telling her “Come on! Have the baby already! We need to get on with this storyline!” But rather than accommodate people like you, she chose to wait the full nine months to have the kid! Can you believe it?! How incredibly selfish of her!

Ha, you are so wonderfully snarkish.

Oh man, Joe, I am totally excited about The Last Man. There have been a few things coming out on it and it sounds amazing.

Are there any aspects of it that you can divulge without giving too much away?

Ha, I feel your pain with the trash issue. I just walked into my garage to find it littered with trash and a particularly innocent (and yet guilty) look German Shepherd... Good times.

I can relate to the chaos of garbage having been "attacked" and thrown all over the floor. I have three ferrets who like to escape their cage and manage to find every trash bin there is and go through it! It's starting to annoy me now!!!

Those chocolates look yummy!

Will we see more of what the Replicators are doing to fight the wraith in season four? (i.e., things other thank fighting, and destroying planets, etc). I am really enjoying this season, its really great!

I don't think that's exactly what Anounames #1 ment when he asked that. Let me put it in a more polite manner.

Will the baby-arc be a big part of the show, like, the Wraith, or a smaller part, like, the Genii? The way its headed, I'd say Wraith size. Come on, are you telling me I'm the only one who's ever compared a baby to a wraith? Life-sucking, evil, mind-controlling, force you to wake up early in the morning...

PG15 said...

Wow...I imagine that must've taken a while to clean up eh? Oh well, at least it sounds like the pastry and the fact that the other producers left you alone while they played virtual golf more than made up for it!

Oh, and I came upon this promotional video over at Gateworld:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=pBG5lHpGcTw

So, after I soiled myself a few times glimpsing those 3 exquisite bits of CGI (battle scene, darts flying over Asuras, planet blowing up)...I now have a question:

Is the battle scene seen in that video part of the "best CGI ever" sequences of BAMSR, or are there better stuff still to be revealed?

Scotch eggs? Umm. How to describe a scotch egg? I'd say.. boiled egg surrounded by mystery meat rolled in not-bread crumbs.

Wikipedia says they "consist of a cold, hard-boiled egg removed from its shell, wrapped in a sausage meat mixture, coated in breadcrumbs, and deep-fried."

I was close. :)

I love the trash burglar story. My puppy once got into a bag of puppy chow when I was away. He was still only a few weeks old, so his whole body ballooned up to hilarious proportions.
It was really funny till he started getting rid of all the food though. I had to follow him around with newspapers for another four hours.

Even though you've already had Canadian Thanksgiving, what are some turkey day traditions that you enjoy?

I have a suicidal Irish Terrier - my whole house looks like your kitchen. (No, that's not the suicidal part - he has pica (no, that's not a font) and prefers rocks, plastic articles and toilet paper above all else.)

So who got stuck doing the cleanup, and how long did it take?
Reference the show, when exactly will the final cut of the final episode of season four be done? How many episodes of S4 do you actually have ready for airing at this time? And how do you manage to indulge an obviously educated palate without resembling Jabba the Hutt? I have to spend an extra 30 minutes on the treadmill for just LOOKING at your pictures, never mind for what I actually eat.

Oh yeah, and another question, if you don't mind:

Joe Flanigan apparently said at a recent con that shooting will commence earlier for Season 5 due to the writers' strike (or something like that), is this true? Do you know anything about this?

Sorry I don't know how long it has been since you've last visited Montreal but have you ever been to the Italian restaurant Scarolies? It is on the corner of Brunswick and St. John's (north west corner) across from Fairview where the Caverne Greque used to be. I was there recently for the first time and was quite impressed with the food and service.

Hello Mr. M. This is Nani. Have you ever tried a Polish cucumber salad called "mizeria"? It's made of thinly sliced fresh seedless cucumber, with paper-thin rings of sweet onion, and a generous handful of chopped fresh dill in a sour cream sauce? Lovely with roasted pork.

About "The Seer" - Sam Carter's vision is obviously still to come - Is this how season 4 will conclude 4?

Are you sure you want to know?

A Scotch egg consists of a cold, hard-boiled egg removed from its shell, wrapped in a sausage meat mixture, coated in breadcrumbs, and deep-fried.

The dish was invented by the London food shop Fortnum & Mason, in 1738.

Contrary to popular belief, it is not a Scottish dish.

Scotch eggs are commonly eaten cold, typically with salad and pickles and if you feel you absolutely must cucumber.

That’s the official take on the mephistophelian pabulum (evil food) that is the Scotch egg.

I see it more as a cholesterol time bomb.

God I love sesquipedalianisims!

Have a nice weekend everyone.

I'm sorry--I just had to laugh. My dog used to do that on a regular basis (you'd think I'd learn to make the garbage inaccessible after the first time!). You have my sympathy.

And that's not the only thing my dog gets up to. He's eaten a twelve ounce package of chocolate chips with NO problem (he's a bigger dog, but still....). Not to mention an almost full package of chocolate truffles my daughter left on the back of the couch.

Dogs. They drive you crazy, but you have to love them....

Answer: Darn that Rachel. We kept telling her “Come on! Have the baby already! We need to get on with this storyline!” But rather than accommodate people like you, she chose to wait the full nine months to have the kid! Can you believe it?! How incredibly selfish of her!

Yeah, she could have had an early c-section. I mean, how hard is that? Seriously, though, the baby thing has had only about 30 seconds of screen time, if that, and it's not as if Teyla has spent her days rubbing her belly looking with wistful eyes off into the distance. I'm not a huge fan of baby storylines but it's not like you guys had a choice, so I'll wait patiently (like, nine months) to find out what happens.

I'm sorry, Joe, but you broke the family feeling Atlantis had for 3 seasons.

I watched Rising the other day and I have to tell you that as soon as you decided to get rid of Torri, the feeling that was present in the Rising and all the 3 seasons was gone!

Yes Amanda is great and I do love her character, but on SG-1! Who cares if it was canceled? SGA was a whole new TV show and Im sorry if you felt like it needed a boost by SG-1 characters. SGA was at its best when it was zero contact with Earth.

Torri has great support from her fans. Her character was simply amazing from the day we met her and she just became better and better with every episode.

Carson was one of those characters who you just loved watching on the screen and just cannot hate. I don't think I've ever seen anyone who hated Carson, so removing him really had no sense. I see that you decided to bring him back. Why not bring back Weir?

This show disappointed me a lot with its decisions. I saw it decline from having characters and storries of great potential to having only women who are blonde, storylines centered around "HOT" alien women, and the male characters getting dumber and dumber with every episode.

Hey Joe, I'm sorry if it's too early to ask this seeing as you've only just started your story ideas for season 5. You said that Teyla will be back in season 6 so will you be bringing in a new charater for the team like sg-1 had when Daniel Jackson left and Jonas Quinn joined for that season?

Unknown said...

Scotch eggs are hardboiled eggs that have been shelled, wrapped in sausage, then covered in bread crumbs, and deep fried.

As far as Anonymous and the baby, he was asking about the fifth season, not the current fourth season. Unless you're talking about throwing Amanda's toddler in as a replacement. And since you guys just started, I think that's a request to not make the baby a major story arc. But then, I don't know.

Bonsoir Joseph,

While I rather miss Carson Beckett and would love to see him back it's certainly not a deal breaker. I like Keller. She sounds (voicewise) a bit too young and it jars me a bit but otherwise I really like her.

Weir. I wish Torri the best but have no desire to see her back on Atlantis full-time. Or even part-time. A few eps is a stretch for me. It's not that I dislike her. I'm just not interested in her interpretation and I think too much water (writing-wise) has crossed under the Bridge (hehehe) for the character to be rehabilitated.

(This is not a brown-nose.) I like where S4 is going with the Replicator/Wraith war and the humans being stuck in the middle. And I like what has been done with Carter so far. And Ronon. And Teyla. And Keller. I have decent expectations for Miller's Crossing/Rodney. The only one that fell flat for me was Doppleganger. Even that corrected the horrendously flawed similar idea of Prometheus Unbound.

I see your question as to what Scotch eggs has been answered a few times so I won't bother..but I will ask you two things.

1- What's the feedback you get from us Aussie fans/ratings on telly. SGA was on too rarely, too late for it to make a dent in ratings I am sure. In season 1 it was on much earlier..then later it was relegated to much later in the evening.

2- is that a dog turd amongst the rubbish??? lol

Oh Beard Papa, so wonderfully yummy, yet so expensive on a student's budget. We have several stores here in NYC (and one conveniently located near the NYU campus) so we don't have to wait for hours for one of those sweet treats. Personally, I like the original vanilla best but their green tea cream puff is rather good as well.

In Nashville is this pancake place called The Pancack Pantry. They are famous for the plethora of different pancakes you can order. The line every morning (yes, weekdays too thanks to tourists) literally goes around the entire block and can take hours. Weekend - forget it! I've seen all sorts of celebrities dine there and even saw a famous R&B diva have a meltdown that landed her on Page 6 (breakfast AND a show!!!). If you ever make it to Nashville its def one of the many places to hit.

Here's how my boyfriend makes scotch eggs: make hard boiled eggs, put them in egg batter, wrap in sausage (he prefers sage sausage), dip in the batter again, coat with bread crumbs, deep fry until sausage is completely cooked (the length of time will vary depending on how much sausage you put on the egg - he recommends a minimum of 1/4 pound of sausage per egg) And we eat them warm, not cold. Not everyone likes scotch eggs, but we love them. Yummy.

Ah, yes, ground zero. 'Children' will be children. But look at it this way - if you make a mess sometime you can always say it was the children. Have a great weekend Joe.

Now that SGA has been renewed for a fifth season, does that mean we fans of Carson Beckett will see the good doctor's PERMANENT return to SGA? SInce the episode 'Sunday' there has been a HUGE Carson Beckett-shaped hole in the series. And I must say it has been REALLY REALLY HARD to watch without him! Keller is OK but she's NOT Carson! Whatever the hint was that was planted in one of the last three epis for bringing Carson back,no one caught it. Can you at least give us a HINT since you won't allow any spoilers? Please? I'm asking nicely. You were rather FUN at Comic Con this year, by the way! Liked the comment about sending hate emails to Cooper since yours was full! What IS reason you guys have a hate on for STARGATE doctors anyway?

Anyway, hope you don't just dump this request and ignore it! I'm really serious about knowing what will happen with Carson's future on ATLANTIS.

There is a deli in Williamstown Massachusetts called Pappa Charlie's. The menu is mostly made up of sandwiches named after famous actors who have been in the Williamstown Theatre Festival. All you need to do is spend a summer acting there and you can have your Joseph Mallozzi sandwich. I was a fan of the Joanne Woodward and the Blythe Danner, but without the sprouts.

We both know that the poster wasn't implying anything about Rachel Luttrell as a person, a pregnant woman, an actress, whatever. There were any number of ways you could have answered criticism of how the baby storyline is playing out without blaming the actress. The criticism wasn't of the pregnancy; it was of the writing. And using the actors as an excuse for bad writing (which you've done before, often) is bad form.

I've had that garbage experience with many of my live-in guests (aka pets). The worst experience we had though wasn't garbage. It was when I set the pizza box down on top of the stove to get the phone. I turned back around five to ten minutes later and picked up the CLOSED pizza box only to discover it empty. There was tomato sauce on the dog's muzzle. I still have no idea how he managed it. Then there was the dog that ate an entire pound of vanilla fudge IN the clear plastic wrap. The entire wrap exited much later. Otherwise, I'd have thought the fudge vanished into thin air. I'm much more careful now. Aren't pets fun?

I got a very confused pair of dogs at the moment, it appears we had a hard frost last night and my little staffie Feegle hates the cold and is curled up in front of the fire trying to be inconspicuous but she really needs to pee. Hi, Joe

I think it unfair of that Anonymous person to say that the Teyla baby storyline is boring... In a season of new stuff that I've admittedly met with a bit of trepidation (Sorry!) - The Teyla baby storyline has been the one thing I've confidently looked forward to seeing unfold! See! We do still have a bit of faith!! BTW, I also liked Tabula Rasa, and even if it did borrow and tip its hat at a few ideas from SG1’s Cold Lazarus, and Trek's Undiscovered Country, I thought Doppelganger had some brilliant moments! I just so wanted Rodney to make another Kirk joke at John's expense, while they were all sitting around the table at the end..! I'll miss Heightmeyer very much though...

I'm sorry to see that the Athosians have been disappeared, at least for the moment... But that's one way of making sure Teyla doesn't ship out to have the baby, and I'm sure there'll be a big Crescendo-like storyline finale telling us where on Earth (!??!) they went...

PLEASE, PLEASE bring Carson Beckett back more permanently into the fold in Season 5 - He is a wonderful, wonderful influence on everyone's creative work for Stargate Atlantis... A much missed inspiration to writing, chemistry, and audience... PLEASE, let Paul be part of the show regularly again!! The character conflict and chemistry born from his ‘rebirth’ (return, whatever!) would be fantastic… Heads would butt, some hearts would mend, some would break, and Paul would be brilliant at portraying the emotional core of being at odds with his (Beckett’s) own world and existence upon his return; Making a place for himself again, while everyone around him would have to shift once more to do the same for him… And it wouldn’t necessarily mean throwing anyone overboard just to welcome him back home..! There’s plenty going on in Atlantis for everyone to have their place, and their moment to shine!

Hi, again, Joe…

So, I’ve been reading some old posts and there are hints and whispers that maybe, just maybe, Teyla does ship out to have the baby, or maybe she doesn’t have it… Or maybe, she leaves just after having it, to go find its Dad and the rest of her people!!???

Whatever happens… I don’t know! A major story arc… Is she going to be like some sort of Avenging Angel..?

Anyhow, I’m sure you won’t tell me…

But I STILL want Carson back!!!

I must add in my own 2 cents worth on the Weir issue that seems to have filled this blog over our long Thanksgiving weekend. I didn't dislike either the character or the choices made by the actress playing the charcter. I did, however, find it disturbing that she was always willing to abandon Atlantis rather than fight; set the self destruct and run, rather than fight; get flustered trying to run a military operation so decide to run. As a diplomat, all of those responses are appropriate. But the galaxy has become way too dangeous for a diplomat to be in charge of the expedition. I thought so at the start of the expedition, but waited to see how she would handle things. I'm now convinced that it's time for the miliary to occupy the command chair if we are to ever stop knee jerk response running when the going gets tough. If we want Atlantis, then we must keep Atlantis at all costs. And I don't believe that the diplomat in Wier allowed her to think in those terms. Even if she remained on the base she would now, by necessity, be releived by the IOA for a military commander. And I reference their wilingness to place a military commander at the helm now, over a civilian again.

But I don't think that's all that keeps you folks up at night about Weir. You feel that you have a much better handle on where the story arc should run and how the stories should be told than those currently paid to run the show. And that's clearly obvious by the number of posts that are antagonistic about ratings since she shifted to a recurring character; to the number of posts begging for her to be returned as a regular character, etc. There is much at work in the decisions related to character changes and it's not all at the writer's level. Consider that there is a studio and a network to please and we have no idea what their requests were regarding the two mssing characters. I do agree that doctors in the Stargate universe should show up in red shirts however! Fan fiction is tyour opportunity to tell the stories that you feel need to be told, and told in the manner that you most want them to be told. So go for it and write your stories. And enjoy them with Ford, Weir and Beckett.

I'll get back in my corner now and just remain mostly in lurk mode. But I just had to get my 2 cents worth in at this point because it seems to be a recurring montra on this blog. And I want to see if the infamous Mr.M will answer this question...How do you put up with it all the time???

Mini scotch eggs are less of a "cholesterol time bomb" than the large ones - but only if you don't eat too many.

Now mini haggis bites are even better - haggis covered in breadcrumbs and (quel shock) deep fried [they can be baked]. Delicious.

Of course for desert it would have to be cranachan - whipped cream, whisky, honey, fresh raspberries mixed together and topped with toasted oatmeal - served with a glass of Drambuie and you have heaven.

Weird, but good. (Well, not the fishfinger bun ... I'm a vegetarian, I wouldn't know. But their Taro buns rock.)

Forgive me if the above is poorly spelt/punctuated or makes no sense. I just polished off a bottle of cab sav while cheering the downfall of the Australian government. I LOVE ELECTION DAY - especially when the Liberals (the conservative party, of course) are
voted out.)

That little gang of yours surely needs their own reality TV show:)

Will Michael ever be back on the show? And will the retrovirus Carson created be the subject of an episode? I ask because it always looks as if Michael never fully transforms into the Wraith he was prior. Would Keller consider modifying it so as to surpress certain Wraith characteristics such as sucking the life out of people rather than all of them?

Dogs

How come Lulu was at daycare and the others were left home alone? Are they more trustworthy? Ha ha!

Why do you have a Wok kitchen and everybody else has a normal kitchen?

Dogs, like girls, just wanna have fun!

On a completely different note, I was curious if your chocolate sampling had ever included chocolate infused with tea flavors? And if so, have you found a favorite? Thanks!

Will any of the Atlantis team members personal feelings clash against direct orders resulting in disastrous consequences?

suse said...

Anonymous posted:"...There were any number of ways you could have answered criticism of how the baby storyline is playing out without blaming the actress. The criticism wasn't of the pregnancy; it was of the writing. And using the actors as an excuse for bad writing (which you've done before, often) is bad form."

And how do you know it's bad writing? Have you read the scripts that deal with the pregnancy? Or are you assuming it will be bad because you just don't like the idea of Teyla having a baby?

What were they supposed to do? Make the kid Shep's, Ronon's or McKay's?

Better yet (sarcasm alert) perhaps they should have written out Teyla. Because going from very active to head shots only would have killed any story Teyla had been getting.

Yikes. Excuse the actress for having a life outside acting on SGA.

You wrote for The Busy World Of Richard Scarry? I watched that when I was younger. My sister loved it, I couldn't stand it.

Millers Crossing sounds like it will be really good. I really liked McKay And Mrs. Miller, so I'll probably like Millers Crossing.

Those pastries look really good.

If the writers had decided to write Season eight (of SG-1) with Sam being pregnant, who would have been the father? And how would you guys have handled the 'who's the father' issue? Thank you.

Why don't you like kids? I totally respect your opinion on the matter and accept that it's each to his own, but not all kids are vindictive little monsters who run around destroying everything they touch with one finger up their noses. Only most.

Ah yes, because brute force is always so much better than diplomacy, eh? Let's apply the US model of international relations! Invade what isn't yours in the first place, fight to the last piece of hapless canon fodder to retain it and don't give a thought to the incredible havoc you've brought to the people who were there long before you rode in to "save" them. George Bush would be so proud.

Joe,

I understand that you can not please everyone and that you folks have a vision. However does that vision include Paul McGillian in season 5 as regular cast.

I was very disappointed with the decision to semi "kill" him off.

Keller's bad but the actess is ok. We could just have her work for him.

Also I miss Torri. Carter's much better on SG1. Please consider removing the new cast or at least give us the season 2/3 character with only a side of Keller, Carter and various SG1 cast?

Hi Joe,

I was wondering if any progress has been made on whether or not RDA will appear in season 5?

I'm loving season four so far and am extremely excited that Atlantis will be back for a fifth season. The appearance of RDA in any future episodes would make the series go from brilliant to perfect.

Thanks for the great show. :)

I think the individual who asked about the Baby storyline was a little harsh however I agree that babies in anything other than a soap are hard to keep interesting (biology is a pain). I mean I think it's great that you have supported the actress, however I do have my doubts given the other challenges you have this season.

On that note, please can we have Beckett back. The show just isn't the same without him!

Hi Joe,

in an interview for Gateworld Brad Wright said that "at the end of Continuum the timeline will be changed slightly but permanently." Does this change affect in any way Vala, Mitchell and General Landry? Is the SG-1 team: Vala, Daniel, Mitchell, Teal'c and Sam, but especially Vala intact at the end of "Continuum"?

Oh geez, I lived in Japan for twelve years ... those cream puffs must be to die for. (Insert drool here) I certainly got spoiled with a pastry shop on nearly every corner; oh how good a Japanese cream puff can be! I've been going through withdrawals for decades now.

Heh, at least your dogs ate trash! Once my Shiba-ken ate all the bras I had hanging up to dry on the poles behind the house. I came home and she had the remnants draped around her neck. Lovely VS lingerie reduced to dog collar status.

What part of Japan are you particularly fond of?

Hey don’t under estimate the potential story arc of Teyla’s baby.

I have seen men crying and the odd one faint when they have seen a baby born.

I see Teyla opting for a natural ‘Mother Earth‘ish’ (Athosian) no drugs kind of birth.

A bit of chanting, the odd medicinal local root for pain relief.

The story lines are too numerous to mention both serious and comedic.

So wait and see, don’t prejudge based on how pregnancy and birth is dealt with on other shows.

Have we decided who the father is or is that still a big secret?

Sorry to hear about the mass destruction of your house. I'd just pack up and leave at this point.

Since everyone's putting in their shopping list for casting choices that you're entering into a spreadsheet (145 votes gets character x reinstalled, 200 votes gets a bonus character of your choice) I'll throw in my 2 cents which is worth even less with inflation factored in. Beckett always seemed more like a foil for the other characters rather than someone who popped out of the tv screen to me, though I must admit to getting dust in my eyes for the episode Sunday. I really like the Weir character and was disappointed that she was being written out and wary about Carter being introduced. However, how Carter has been brought into the fold has won me over, so damn it, I have nothing to gripe about.

The only time SGA has made me flinch was the episode Irresistable, but overall I've personally thought that the show keeps getting better and better. So you can tick me off on the spreadsheet as a happy fan until you kill of McKay and I'm forced to send crates of lemons to the studio (joke!).

Joe Flanigan apparently said at a recent con that shooting will commence earlier for Season 5 due to the writers' strike (or something like that), is this true? Do you know anything about this?

PG I was at the con. Joe did not say that they would start shooting earlier ... what he said was, they always have good intentions to do so, but it doesn't happen that way.

Touchy! Allow me to explain something to you, talks are always the first part of negotiating tactics, fighting is a last resort, always. So much goes on behind the scenes when you're dealing with other nations, that the general public will never get to see. So, maybe you'd like to check your facts first before you start something you can't substantiate. If you remember when the likes of the Geneva Convention was brought up, the response was, "The Wraith would probably eat the delegation." Sometimes as hard as a pill it may be to swallow sometimes when all else fails, little option remains. And for the record, as someone who has been there when the countries were getting bombed and the atermath of genocides, refugee camps and diseases. I'm well aware of the consequences of actions, and I also know of the aid and support people receive afterwards. Is it perfect? Far from it, but when a population is obliterated by such things as genocide, do you really think we as human beings... (irrespective of your nationality) should just sit idly by and watch things unfold? I couldn't do it? Could you?

*gets off her soapbox*

I'm done Mr M. :D

Sorry too much time on my hands and no new ep to keep me out of mischief!! Miller's Crossing next week! Woohooooooooo!!

A Scotch egg is the inside of a boiled egg wrapped in a ball shaped sausage meat thing with breadcrumbs surrounding

my explanations are terrible

either way they are round

So if you had one infront of you, and cut in have youd see the white part and the orange inside bit of the egg cut in half naturally

Rachels baby should go back to Earth or it should be written that the baby gets left with Teylas people, aka with the father, if he is still alive!

That's what happens right? the whole Atlantis not being the place for a baby card will come into play and the baby will go into the care of another family offworld until someday teyla gives up the save the pegasus galaxy and goes offworld to be with her man and child

Itd be a perfect way to end her story and have someone like Beckett warrior doctor take her place

Joe,

Wow that's a mess to have to clean-up. I hope the pugs are ok.

We had a German Shepperd years ago,
who had developed a craving for drywall.

After a trip to the Vet,
luckily nothing was wrong with her. But cutting new drywall, taping, mudding, and repainting the wall kept her in the doghouse for a little while.

Nonono! It'd be even better if it was like Angel and Teyla gave birth to a full grown Weir! Complete with Apocalypse Nowish action!

Tentacles! Eating people! It'd be great!

Having read "Alas, Babylon" I can say it is a decent book, but a tad dated in my opinion. Go with Goldman and Niffenegger.

And were the Travelers in Atlantis in anyway inspired by the Travelers of Ireland?

I'm still not entirely sure if you were being sarcastic on the Scotch Egg (they're a freaking institution - I thought this was a worldwide phenomenon!) but heck! I'm going to put my faith in your natural curiosity and driving desire to learn.....

Since someone has described them below, I'll spare you. However, I would like to say: They're not classy they're not particularly complicated; sometimes, I'm not entirely sure they pass health and safetly restrictions, but my God - they are mighty!!

(Hmmm, I also don't know if you actually read comments on old posts. Meh. I think this is fairly missable to be honest...)
