My BaronDestructo@yahoo.com account received an email from a Princess Rose (no kidding) promising me romance, devotion, and, oh yeah, 5 million dollars if I could help facilitate a little transaction. “I LIKE ANY PERSON WHO CAN BE CARING, LOVING AND HOME ORIENTED,”writes Princess Rose in all capitals to no doubt emphasize her earnestness. “I WILL LOVE TO HAVE A LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU AND TO KNOW MORE ABOUT YOU. I WOULD LIKE TO BUILD UP A SOLID FOUNDATION WITH YOU IN TIME.” She goes on to explain that her father was “A KING, WHICH OUR TOWN CITIZENS TITLED HIM OVER SIXTEEN YEARS BEFORE HIS DEATH” and that she “WAS A PRINCESS TO HIM”. Furthermore, there is $25.5 million sitting in an Ougadougan bank account gathering dust and could I help her free up the funds in exchange for a cool 5 mill?

I possess two hellhounds - one named Eviscerator who, yes, admittedly, is quite literally an eviscerator, but also one named Mooglypants who, it may surprise you to know, has never worn a pair of pants in his life. Do you see my point? While I applaud your efforts to strike out in a colorful vein, I must object to your unearned use of the title. That said, with $25.5 million in the bank, I’m sure you could find your way to purchasing a title. Perhaps a nice Countess or Viscountess or, if you feel like splurging, a Marchioness?
You also write that you “like any person who can be caring, loving and home oriented” which, quite frankly, makes you sound not all that choosy. If that’s all it takes to win your heart, then might I suggest you get a pet rabbit instead? If, on the other hand, you are seeking someone highly ambitious who refuses to be dissuaded by negativity, delays, or nuclear-tipped warheads, then I am your man. And you can be my (figurative) princess and share in what I have to offer: my robot chimp army, my satellite death ray, and my timeshare in Hawaii. Think of it, my dear. Just me, you, and your father’s $25.5 million dollars. And Eviscerator and Mooglypants. And the rest of the League of Aliens and Mutants for Evil who are like my extended family. And, oh yes, my extended family.

Joe, I would love to see O'Niell, Caldwell, and Ellis really going at it in an argument. Is there any chance there would be an opening to do that?
Similarly I would like to see who the team sides with in those respective arguments because:
Sheppard had a very good re pore with Ellis and a love hate relationship, with O'Niell(i.e.Return 2).
McKay really hated Ellis(i.e. First Strike.), and Caldwell too(i.e. Long G'Bye), but how would O'Niell fair?
Similarly to which side Ronon would pick, however i think he would follow Sheppard.

I would recommend any of Stirling's books but an awesome series done by him is the Dies The Fire series which currently has 4 books in it and counting. It's a great alternate history/future sci fi-ish book that blends a lot of elements that I personally enjoy in the works that I read. I highly recommend any of his stuff.

Aaaanyway, my real reason for stopping by: after that lovely Sg-themed version of The Night Before XMas a few days back, I was inspired to give my fellow fans (especially the D/V shippers and McSheppers) a Stargate-themed holiday card. :)
And also a pressie to everyone: due to a severe lack of Stargate-themed ornaments, I decided to make my own (which prompted the creation of the aforementioned card). Everyone can download a high-rez version of the McShep side (though there's nothing saying they aren't just friends in the pic, if McShep bothers anyone! ^_~) here to print out (you'll have to resize it appropriately for your printer), then cut out, to make an ornament. You can get the admittedly-not-as-high rez of the Daniel/Vala side here, and the textless, empty Holi'Gate wreath here. (The McShep drawing is mine, and I made the 'Gate, but the Daniel/Vala pic is from a screencap I found online.)

(She said "brains," not minds, but that makes her sound a bit odd - as if actual brains could leave their bodies and meet on any old black obelisk, hahaha.) Joe, a stroopwafel is a delicious biscuit - 2 very thin waffles (about the size of a round beer mat) sandwiched together with a caramel filling, got addicted to them on business trips to Holland. Best way to eat them -

Place stroopwafel over coffee cup like a lid (make sure wafel will not fall in cup).

Will there be other photos/objects cleverly hidden in Sam's office/quarters in addition to the framed photo of Jack O'Neill we saw in "Reunion"? Perhaps a photo of Sam and her late father, or other members of the SGC? Joe, I think you have the best job in the universe. As someone who is currently in a different career track (I'm a software developer, and you should know that we have a something of a reputation as bad spellers), would you be able to offer any advice on how someone like me might have a chance at breaking into screenwriting? How much of the business is truly all about talent and quality of your writing, and do agents and the guys who might look for work from writers (producers, I assume?) still like to see that a writer has a degree and/or at least some curricular studies done in english or literature?

Of course Mitchell gets promoted because Robert Cooper thinks exactly like you - that is what was wrong with Mitchell in the first place - not THAT there was a Mitchell but how they introduced and implemented him.
It defies logic, common sense and credibility when you put a guy who has never been off-world and never-even-seen-the-gate-before, a totally Stargate inexperienced guy like Mitchell up against a girl who is a veteran off-world soldier with 8 years of experience who is field and battle tested. Credible - I think not.

So you think you are a mind reader now too?
Yeah I would have written more intelligent dialogue and better plot devices that stayed true to established canon and not thrown the canon out the door (i.e. LSD being used without Larrin having the gene.) Maybe I was too harsh on Paul since you guys develop the storyline as a group, but then I look at some of the other excellent episodes so far this season and think WTF? This is from the same group of writers? I guess you can't have all good to great episodes, but this wasted a good premise that could have been great, but wasn't (at least to me) with the way the plot was outlined/written in a lot of places.
Whether or not there was a conscious intention by TPTB to have the Larrin character as a young, hot woman instead of a more believable older woman closer to Sheppard's age, it came across to me as an attempt to appeal to the male 15 to 35 year old demographic loved by advertisers and not an attempt at quality, intelligent storywriting. There are beautiful, but older actresses (Amanda Tapping as an example) that could have filled the role much better and more believable in my opinion. Too bad you guys didn't think so. Oh well, looking forward to Miller's Crossing and This Mortal Coil coming up in the next week and a half.

And, if I may, just what would be so awful about Mitchell taking orders from a woman? Really, I'm asking. And I'm also asking if all Ben/Mitchell fans feel this way, because it's not the first time I've run across this sentiment. I frankly don't care one way or the other, just so long as some sort of believable military apparatus and process is maintained (or reintroduced to the show, take your pick).
So I guess my question to anyone who feels like responding is, if Sam Carter is promoted above Cam Mitchell, would you see it as a demotion for Ben Browder as an actor in Stargate? And, if the answer is yes, why? Also, bear in mind that this exact scenario is what happened to Sam Carter/Amanda Tapping in after season eight. I remember many, many fans saying and many long debates arguing and even Ben Browder himself saying that "this is how things are done in the military".

ok, so ive looked at all of the episodes from the second part of season 3 and cannot see anything that would help bring back carson. am i completely missing it? any chance on another clue for how he comes back?
also i know the episode is the kindred, but what number episode slot is it?
and is there any chance at bringing him back as a main character in season 5? as weve heard that people are now being asked for parts in s5.

Re: Sam Carter after season 8. Taking a job as scientist in Area 51 was not a demotion in ANY way. Carter is scientist first, soldier later.

In reference to the Carter/Mitchell promotion issue, I'm wondering if those who brought it up are forgetting that when Mitchell came to the SGC, SG-1 was merely a title. Carter had left the team to take a leading science position, leaving the team without any team members. Therefore, Mitchell was the leader of SG-1 and Carter, Daniel and Teal'c all rejoined the team thanks to Mitchell's determination. Also, it's never said if Mitchell had been off-world prior to the first episode of Season 9 - admittedly, his reaction to the Stargate would suggest that he hadn't seen it before or at least had not been able to get so close to it previously to have a moment (Lords know, even if I'd been through a couple of times, I'd take the chance to simply have a moment with the Gate, to touch it and let the full weight of it's importance sink in)
I know there are many who don't agree with that viewpoint and I'm not trying to dimiss the views of others. However, officially, because Carter left SG-1 and Mitchell was then placed in charge of the team, she would be second-in-command to him when she rejoined. *shrugs* That's how it works, however much it may seem like it sucks.
And to the gentleman who asked how Mitchell taking orders from Carter would make Browder/Mitchell fans feel: I wouldn't have a problem with that. Because at the end of the day, Cam and Sam have a deep abiding friendship, know each other well and have trust. As long as that isn't lost...to me, there wouldn't be a problem.

Sorry if that upsets people but at the end of the day, I'm a fan of Stargate, the series, the idea, the story. I may be fond of the characters but it was always the dream behind the series that I fell in love with first. So as long as the series stayed/stays true to that dream, I'll be watching.

First timer here. Wanted to put my 2 cents in on The Gunslinger.
I've always enjoyed Stephen King, and have wanted to get into this book for some time. I guess since I knew up front that it was a series, I wasn't expecting all things to be answered in the first one. It was a bit tedious in parts, but that hasn't stopped me from wanting to continue the series and learn more. Glad to hear from others that it picks up in the next books!
I listened to it on CD during my commute, since I don't have that much time for reading. Some may think listening to a book is "cheating", but for me it's a way to get to a book I might not otherwise have the time for. Of course, it must be unabridged!
Do you ever listen to books on CD?
For December I vote for The Time Travelers Wife and The Princess Bride. I don't usually read much Sci-fi or Fantasy, so you are challenging my reading style. Thanks! Keep up the humor. It makes life... funny!

Who sets the budget for SGA?
Do you average it out per episode, or put it in one 'BIG' pot and negotiate for over expenditure, hoping that there will be enough money left over for the cliff hanger last episode???
Could you tell us, (if it's not breaking some blood oath) how much approximately the budget per episode worked out as in S4.
And finally what episode ended up costing the most and why?

Re the Carter Mitchell stuff -- I have to agree it defies logic -- the entire premise of SG-1 being disbanded and Mitchell in charge defies logic simply because that premise was flawed because the people producing and writing SG-1 knew AT would be back in Season 9 therefore Carter would be back in Season 9.
That flawed premise was simply the first step in the illogical path to having a totally inexperienced guy take the place of a seasoned soldier with 8 years of the exact experience Mitchell did not have any of - the kind of experience necessary to be taken seriously as the leader/co-leader of the elite Stargate SG-1 team. It DOES defy logic and credibility as Joanie said.
Now if there had been only civilians and aliens returning to the SG-1 team for Season 9 and no other military person returning (not Carter with 8 years experience and not anyone with even one years worth of experience) than maybe, and that is a very big maybe, having Mitchell in the role he had would have made some sense and been a bit more credible but from where I stand after watching the show for 8years and knowing that there was at least one military person with 8years experience who would in fact be in Season 9 and numerous other military personnel with more experience than Mitchell(and we know this is fact because over the course of 8 years we had heard reference to SG teams up to at least No. 20) - it would have been credible or believable to have Mitchell in the role he had if NONE of those other military personnel were available.
I find it incredible and totally illogical that even though the people in charge of Stargate knew AT and therefore Carter would be available in Season 9 that they would not plan for Carter to have sole command or at least plan better then to have a guy with approximately zero experience in the role - you see how this defies logic and credibility.
Let's just set aside the fact that when Daniel was out for 2 episodes in S10 (at the request of MS for time off)they had him become a Prior and he had a big episode for his return that included the head honcho himself, Jack O'Neill, and an arc to go with his absence -- hhmmm, gee seems AT also needed time off but what do they throw together for AT's absence (which they knew about months in advance and had plenty of time to plan for) some half-baked throw away line about her having left for Area 51 just one week prior to Mitchell's arrival - if this is not lame, and just down right poor planning I don't know what is - in 8 years of religiously watching SG-1 I never saw anything as deplorable as that (and if it WAS planned out that way it is simply unbelivable because the only thing left to ascertain from the whole pathetic mess is that there was an attitude from someone somewhere saying "the guy has to be in charge and since Jack is gone we need a new guy so we have to somehow get Carter out of the way, bring in the new guy and then we can bring Carter back but since she left she won't be sole SG-1 leader anymore, oh and the fans are so witless they won't care if we just bring in a guy who never even saw the Gate before and throw him into the role).
How on earth did anyone in that writers room think that bringing in a guy that had never seen the Gate and had zero experience and putting him in charge would ever fly over someone with 8 years experience? The whole premise, the whole background, the whole thing was a mess that seemed to be thrown together after 2 minutes worth of thought even though they had months to think it through.
On top of everything else it's inexcusable and truly lacks credibility when dealing with one of the Top 10 most experienced Military people in the Stargate Program and then giving SG-1 to some guy who never even saw the Gate.
And oh by the way, Carter kicks-ass and Mitchell should be proud to take orders from her - she is a soldier and a leader and he said he "wanted to LEARN from the best" too bad the people writing and producing the show didn't follow through on what could have been a truly credible, fresh and open-minded story instead of reverting to the "guy has to be in charge" cliche.
Honestly I do believe that giving Carter full Command of Atlantis is in some way trying to amend the mistakes of Seasonn 9-10 and in Atlantis trying to take the brave new road of putting the "woman" in charge and having the "guy" take orders from the woman especially after seeing the reaction from fans on how porrly the Mitchell thing was done.

Obviously this is an in-story setup for the change in command for SG-1. While I understand that Mitchell fans will inevitably latch onto this as the lynch pin of their argument, it doesn't really answer the complaint or criticism.
Everyone already accepts that the show and SG-1 team was manipulated in a fashion that allowed for Mitchell's ascension. What people aren't accepting of is 1) the logic behind the story and character actions, and 2)the real life, behind-the scenes implications/consequences/reality of what took place. Parroting the bit about the team breaking up and Area 51 is just misdirection away from the real issues.
And I agree with the person who said that Sam is on Atlantis to try and make amends for TPTB's mistakes after season eight. They know that they took a big hit in popularity and viewership with the changes to SG-1. They know that the whole "who should lead" issue turned off way, way more people than they ever imagined it would. And yup, now Atlantis has to suffer to make up for it.
Mitchell as he was conceived and executed is the kind of mistake that kills tv shows. SG-1 is gone, and now it's Atlantis that is buckling under the weight of such heinous decision making.

HOLY CRAP!!! I hope Vaniel is not shoved down our throats either I could not stand that - it's a pathetic showing for a character such as Daniel that he turned into such a tool.

I am. :) Though it's been beat to death already. Re: Ben's comment. I think it was focused on *changes* in leadership happening every few years. He asked his F-16 pilot.
What he didn't ask was the likelihood of the former commander coming to serve *under* the new commander - who just happened to have zero real time practical training for the job but *read the reports*.

When I apply or hire for a job, leadership & management skills are more important than my experience. It is easier for someone to ' learn the ropes' than it is to develop leadership qualities.
Mitchell had been a commander. According to Landry, he had a perfect record.
He was a leader in what was probably the highest profile American military battle in history ( At least as far as gov't is concerned) . Carter , despite her many successes , had been following orders. From TPTB viewpoint the heroes were O'Neill & the fighter squadrons.
The truth is with RDA's departure, the future of the series was at stake. They needed to fill the shoes of the action hero. Amanda was pregnant & not able devote herself fully to a leading role. Plus Carter was the brain, not an, emotional. character. There was a possibility that complications could require her absence. Would you want to risk millions of dollars-your career & 8 years of work on that scenario ?. It was written so that Mitchell accepting the leadership, did not reflect badly on Carter. IMO , the show needed a rash male. I don't see how Mitchell could have been that, under Carter's command , without undermining her authority. Daniel had a little leeway under Jack, being a a civilian; due to his nature & their past experience/ relationship. But Carter as military, never did.

Unless I misunderstood, when Mitchell arrived at SGC , he thought he was to serve under Carter. All of the team have had excellent stories regardless of rank. Some of the best scenes of the original cast are in the last 2 seasons. I doubt Mr. Browder cares about his character's rank as much as the roles he gets to play. Although .BB is one of my favorites, each member of the main cast is talented enought to carry off a lead role.
I must say; I love Atlantis, thanks for making such a great show. It's the only TV show I really enjoy (Battlestar Galactica, 4400, Kyle XY, and Blood Ties come close...).
On a completely random note though, I thought I'd ask. Are you familiar with the videogame 'Halo', and if you are, have you noticed the similarities between it and Stargate? (i.e. their Forerunners woke up a nasty race of aliens that consume/eat sentient life, and then they vanished. Sounds like the Ancients waking up the Wraith and then disappearing from our plane of existence/ascending.)
