Bad news for embittered former fans celebrating a dip in the live ratings for Doppelganger. The show rebounded the following week and continues to deliver strongly in key demo’s.
On a totally unrelated front, I’m wondering if I can enlist everyone’s support in my drive to Have the Ice Cream Sandwich Discontinued. As some of you may know, I used to love ice cream sandwiches until the day I OD’d on them at a Christian summer camp (Long story. Do a search on this blog for “ice cream sandwich” to read the sad, sad tale). Ever since, I’ve been unable to stomach an ice cream sandwich and, for this reason, I’d like to have the production on the frozen treat stopped. I know, I know. Many you are wondering “But, Joe - if you don’t enjoy ice cream sandwiches, why don’t you just stop eating them? Why ruin it for people who DO enjoy them?” Well, the answer is simple. I’m incredibly egocentric and am irked by the possibility that there are people out there who are actually enjoying what I do not. For that simple reason, I would also like to campaign for the eradication of the following: halibut, sandals, kiwis (the fruit not the people), Olives (the people not the fruit), French New Wave cinema, and, of course, shrimp chips. So come on, people. Let’s all come together and make this world a far less inclusive place for all.
Whew, what a day! We rolled in at around 10:00 a..m. and got right to it, discussing this weekend’s football highlights. The show’s adopted college football team, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, did not play last Saturday but are sitting at #16 in the BCS Standing with a gaudy 8-0 record. Allegiances are far more fractured when it comes to the NFL, with Paul’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers neck and neck with my feisty Cleveland Browns for the coveted 2007 Darkhorse Crown. Rob, meanwhile, seems to have the Reverse Darkhorse race all sewed up with those underachieving New York Jets. From football to travels through Japan as we caught up with Alan’s trip to Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. For some reason, he didn’t follow my suggestion to visit the Sapporo Beer Museum in Ebisu where he could have gotten nice and toasted at 10:00 in the a.m., but he did take my advice and enjoyed some breakfast tuna in Tsukiji. Alas, before Alan could provide much more detail, Rob arrived and switched the subject to Stargate Universe, getting us up to speed on the revised pitch. My response was: “The janitor? Really?” But before we could pursue discussion, John Smith came in to talk about the directors’ schedule. Well, I just want to say that we are thrilled at the prospect of working with Ken Girotti again and, oh yeah, that young up-and-comer.
Yes, yes, all very interesting and all, but the highlight of my day was stumbling across the following site:
http://www.thesuperheroquiz.com/villain/
I‘m sure that it’s been around a while but, hey, it’s new to me. According to the Which Super Villain Are You quiz, my results put me in a tie (78% each) with both Lex Luthor and Venom although, for some mysterious reason, they gave the edge to Venom. I think it may be because I work out.
Okay, I have been remiss. Let’s get to the mailbag:
Ascended Tauri writes: “Is the character Katie Brown slated for any more episodes this season?”
Answer: Yep. We just watched her in the Day One Mix of Quarantine.
Anonymous #2 writes: “Are you keeping up with season 4 of House? If you are, which of the residents do you hope make House's team?”
Answer: Both women.
LostCityGuardian writes: “When you describe how an idea for an episode is generated, it seems that it is more a collective process to create the plot than just one person writing the script from scratch. Which I think means that really all the credited writer for a particular episode has done is flesh out the basic idea you have all created. Would that be right?”
Answer: More or less. In fact, every episode is different. Usually a writer will come up with an idea and toss it out to the room and we will all discuss, developing the idea into an actual story. Then, the writer who came up with the idea will go away and think about it (usually this is the case although the writer to come up with the idea may not always be the person to write it depending on schedule - ie. Harmony, written by Martin Gero, was an idea that Carl had for an episode). The next time we get together, the writer has hopefully come up with some more ideas for the story we have developed. He stands in front of the white board and throws out what he has come up with. The rest of the room says yay or nay, and then we begin the breaking process. We all participate in coming up with the act breaks, the individual scenes and, occasionally, bits of key dialogue. Then, once the story has been broken down into beats, the writer heads off to flesh it out into an outline. He puts out the outline and the writing department offers suggestions and criticisms. Then he heads off to write a first draft - and the process is repeated. Writing on Stargate is a team effort.
Tim writes: “Will we be seeing anymore The Siege -like battles in the future?”
Answer: For the greatest space battle we’ve ever done, check out BAMSR.
Crazymom writes: …
Answer: Welcome back, officer.

I am now a supervillan - The Joker. Intelligent but crazy sort of fits me.
I think that the quiz assumed that supervillans were male though.
WEll, you are on a villain mood today...trying to ruin
halibut, sandals, kiwis (the fruit not the people),
Olives (the people not the fruit), French New Wave cinema and, shrimp chips, for the rest of us.
Glad to hear the ratings and demos continue to be good. The show is just too great this season to miss.
Can you give us any juicy hints about this week's episode? A moment to look out for or a special effects shot that just blew you away?
Oh, that sucks so bad. Doppelganger was such a good episode!! I know it would have been so much better had it not been leaked... UGH!! It was soooo good! They've all been extremely good. But, at least it went back up.
Well, goodnight Joe.
Joe,
Speaking of directors, any chance of bringing back Peter DeLuise back to Stargate?
BTW loved Tabula Rasa, any chance of getting a belated episode discusson from Alan now that he is back from Japan?
Long live Stargate!!!

Nice. Thats how you say screw you, all you inconsiderate bastards who want season 5 canned, without being so blunt. By the way, have you ever tried a gold kiwifruit? Can you even get them outside NZ? Because I've got some in the fridge right now, and I can tell you that they are pretty good.
Hiya Joe!
One quick question; out of all the objects to use as a weapon on Atlantis, where the heck did Radek's 'metal rod' come from? 'Cause first I thought it was a pool stick, but then Lourne mentioned he hit a guard over the head withsaid 'metal rod' and escaped. Where the heck would Zelenka get that metal rod?? lol Thanks so much for such a great ep! I really thought it was so cool Carter could still keep her head in such a situation and keep reminding Rodney what to do, Teyla was also equally impressive with keeping Rodney on task.
Thanks for the long answer, by the way.
Good luck in your crusade. Death to Ice Cream Sandwiches!
Any ideas on what your main hobby will be this next year (like chocolate, ice cream, books, etc.)?
The show rebounded the following week and continues to deliver strongly in key demo’s.
\o/ Yay, excellent news!
It's because they've fallen for the ice cream sandwich, fallen for it like woah, but then, one day the ice cream sandwich shows up in a slightly different wrapper, and they write into the manufacturer and write and write, and say, hey, change is bad and you never put the ice cream sandwich with the chocolate sprinkles like I had desperately hoped! And they keep writing and writing with their crayons and their tongue poking out of the side of their mouth, but nothing changes, and they see other people eating and enjoying the ice cream sandwiches and they run up to them and try and slap them out of their hands, wailing, 'how could you?! don't you know that this dressed up trollop is the ice cream sandwich I once loved, and if I can't have it, nobody can?!'. Because they know that the ice cream sandwich has continued happily without them and they just can't let go, hanging out at supermarkets, gazing at them over the top of newspapers in the frozen foods section. Writing, continuously writing, and yet unlike their prison pen pal, never a reply.
And then they continue to live in the basement of their mothers house and eventually dye from calcium deficiency and gout.
The End
Well Tabula Rasa seemed (to me) to be significantly better than DG. I like team eps - all working toward the same goal - much more than character-centric ones. I hope we get more like TR.
I vote we keep ice cream sandwiches. Because I don't care what you want. Only what I want. ;) (Sorry for the emoticon, I just wanted to be clear I knew you were joking. And so am I.)
suse
Hey Joe, will the Stargate movies 2/3 pitched by Dean Devlin have aneffect on stargate?
Will any of you be involved in the proposed production?
Aww, come on, the Lex Luthor score is weighted by whether or not we have hair.
I hardly call that a determining factor in villainitude. >_>
Anyhow. Good to hear y'all are back down to it— not really too surprised to hear that the scripts are team efforts. Frankly, I'd say it shows... scripts of this quality, it's easy to see they're the brain children of multiple writers.
Though, returning to the supervillain thing... Congrats on making Lex Luthor! ...And... Venom? O_o Er, kay. Seriously though, I'm jealous!
So Joe,
I'm a welfare fraud investigator disatisfied with working for the state. I took one of those on-line "what are you good at" surveys and it seems my ideal profession would be Director of Photography. Producer came in second and lo and behold, one of the local tv stations is advertising for a producer!
So, since I would live to change careers, what exactly does a producer do?
Just out of plain curiosity, does the WGA strike affect the production of Stargate Atlantis?
Could the dip in doppelganger's ratings be due to the fact it was accidently released online by itunes? I don't like ice-cream sandwhiches so im with you on the "lets ruin the fun for everyone else" scheme.
Count me in as one of the Minions Against Ice Cream Sandwich no matter what shape the come in. (Can’t stand the round ones) I am already contacting a lawyer about a strongly worded cease and desist letter but until then I will take an extension cord and a hair dryer to the far reaches of the known world. I will through caution into the wind as a rip open the freeze compartments and I will destroy the vile Ice Cream Sandwich leaving a sticky gooey mess in my wake! :: cackles:: Then I will shout my battle cry “HA what would you do for a Klondike bar!”
So...will McKay and Katei Brown EVER actually kiss?
Hi, Joe.
Thanks for the wonderful message about the upswing in ratings!
Can I add another item to your list of items to be eradicated?
Brussel Sprouts!
EGADS! I can't decide what is worse-- the smell or the taste.
Icky poo-poo.
Best wishes!
Morjana
I, apparently, am a cross between Mystique, Apocalpyse and Dark Pheonix. I feel empowered, I feel evil, I feel like I should challenge you or something...
How do you feel about dance offs?
Woah!! I just wanted to say that the episodes this season are far more in depth and have some really amazing story telling. I love the way the show is written and it keeps looking better and better. I watch live every week and continue to love the way the show is heading. Ronon seems to be progressing great and I'm liking the way Shep is being portrayed. I just have one question, which i mind you i haven't asked you in atleast 4 months, so please go easy on me. I know you don't have this in mind, but i really really want you to consider it, or atleast talk about with the others on staff. My favorite episodes have always been "Runner" "Lost Boys" and "The Hive" I think you know why ;) If your keen that is ^.^ I really want to see this character back again. An ep at the middle of season 5 where we find out what truly happened to ford. You could kill him, take him back on, have him continue as a recurring like Kolya did or more so like Lorne does.
Will you think about it for Season 5? Please, please.
I'll support the complete eradication of sandals and green olives, but that's as far as I'll go on your list.
From my eradication list I'll proffer up: flip flops when worn anywhere other than the beach or pool, the unright word newcuelar, cell phone-answering in restaurants, typos in published books, and steaks cooked more than medium-rare.
I’m wondering if I can enlist everyone’s support in my drive to Have the Ice Cream Sandwich Discontinued
Well, you certainly don't have my support. How many people can I gather round the flag to protest the "Have the Ice Cream Sandwich Discontinued" brigade? Come on people! I see far too many jumping on the "Ban It Wagon". If you don't stand up for the poor Ice Cream Sandwich, it'll be halibut next, then sandals, then kiwis (the fruit not the people) and on and on and on. How long until the Ice Cream Sandwich banners want the Kiwis (the people not the fruit) banned? (I'm okay with Brussels Sprouts being banned though. Ever since seeing Austin Powers in Goldmember, I haven't trusted Belgians;0)
Oh, and I'm the Juggernaut by the way. Beat Dr. Doom by 1%. Says my strength and determination are hard to beat! My Anti-Have the Ice Cream Sandwich Discontinued campaign should be a breeze.
Anyway, just saw Tabula Rasa and loved it! My favorite line? After Ronan zaps Sheppard: "Never gets old". Methinks he kind of enjoys doing that, and come to think of it, he has done it several times.
Up until I read your ice cream sandwich comments, I would not have thought that you were a person capable of subtlety.
I stand corrected.
On a completely unrelated note, you may enjoy reading Soon I Will Be Invincible: A Novel
Hey Joe! Lovely entry you have today. There's not many people who can pull off the snark in quite the way you can. Hilarious.
So I've missed a few days worth of blogs due to school pilling on the homework, (still haven't seen Tabula Rasa, so I'm steering clear of THAT blog entry), so I'll try to catch up:
1. Sorry about your horrible week there. But I have a feeling that that's all karma. Season 5's renewal was just too good of an event to not come with some kind of payback from the gods of fate. Hopefully from here on end good things will come in spades.
2. Loving the very vague Season 5 teases. Keep 'em coming!
3. I read on Alex Levine's SciFi blog that you guys were going to dress up as the peptobismol commercial guys for Halloween; whatever happened to that?
Alright, I think that's every major thing that you've covered in the last week or so. So...yeah, you heard about Gateworld shutting down the Pro and Anti Season 5 threads?
Doppleganger was my favorite episode so far - so the ratings make NO sense - as per usual. I've been loving the episodes, and thank you for keeping Carter 'light'. I love Carter in SG1 - but don't really want her overshining the Atlantis characters who I've really grown to love.
And as one who's really gotten sick of everyone asking for 'romance'. I'm glad you all are ignoring it. We all have our own opinions on who/what/where. And as long as the you leave it vague, we can all imagine what we want. I want Sci-Fi! I want exploring! I want team episodes ;)
Hi Joe:
Late as usual (Monday), I saw the first legally available viewing of Tabula Rasa in Canada (say that 5 times fast). Anyway, very awesome. The best part was when everyone dashed out of the infirmary, trampling poor Major Lorne into a cute pile of goo. Ok, I made that part up. But it was still cool. Who'd have thought that McKay would be as mindless as everyone else.
By the way, for anyone who doesn't know, Tabula Rasa in psychological terms means, "Blank Slate" - referring to how a baby is theoretically thought to be when it is born. Very apt title.
Joe, when is everyone due back to work for season 5?
Patricia
Thank you for clarifying the kiwi/Kiwi thing. I don't think I would like to be discontinued.
In other news, I moved out of my apartment today. I waved goodbye to the super villain/Mallozzi look-alike lawyer whose office I could see into from my room.
I shall miss him.
Wow, Tabula Rasa was fantastic! I can't say enough about it. Fabulous sets, outta-the-park acting and what a great story. Welcome aboard, Alan McCullough. How many other episodes has he done?
Was thinking today about female characters I would love to see again. Laura Cadman has always been a favorite - any chance we could see her in the future?
What exactly is an ice-cream sandwich?
Oh, hell no! Don't make me go out and start a Save Ice Cream Sandwiches campaign. I'll get the Scots involved, if I have to.
Have not read your tale of woe but suspect it's similar to what happened between me and peanuts, when I was ten.
Any of you Packers fans? They're a rabid bunch. Meh. I've always been partial to basketball myself.
Oh, and that Stargate thing you do? Just keeps getting better every week. Thank you!
Hey Joe, nice little message for all the detractors out there. I was wondering, are you planning any big fight scenes like the one in Siege PtII; not space battles, but good ole' fashioned shootouts involving alot of marines, and some really really big guns?
I don't think that these people making the anti-season five threads dislike stargate, otherwise they wouldn't go near the site. I think it's the opposite - they love stargate but they don't like the way you're running it, THEY think they know better. What's the odds that the main players of the thread are also the same ones that keep asking you if they can pitch you stories for the up coming season? Hmmm.
On that note I would like to enlist your wisdom. I need to write a short for my uni Film/TV portfolio. I was thinking one of two topics.
The first was about a man that spends his days watching TV and then going on the net in order to critise and correct the writers/producers of the errors he perceives with the show rather then coming up with anything creative of his own and putting it out there to be judged.
The second was an investigation into the psychology behind the fact that attack by aliens often comes via phsical features (such as Wraith hands or the bug creatures from Aliens) that look strangely like female genitalia. Is there something in that?
Which one do you think I should go with Joe?
My sister wants to know why Martin Wood is always wearing Abercrombie and Fitch.
Sorry for the repeat question Joe, but I didn't think you'd mind since you didn't mailbag the day I asked.
Does the WGA strike effect you guys? Or does the fact that SGA is a Canadian production albeit for MGM make you exempt from the strike?
I ask this because I'm a writer, an American, but living in New Zealand. I've written a sci-fi pilot that I'm almost ready to send out to those you send things like that too (agents for consideration or perhaps a smaller production company or two in the U.S. and Canada)...but I'm really concerned about what steps on WGA's toes. For one thing I agree with the strike and wouldn't want to undermine it but also I don't want to dig myself an early writer's grave.
I've read the strike rules but being that I'm not a member and outside the country I don't know what applies to me and what doesn't. I don't want to find myself unwittingly crossing a picket line and finding I can't be a WGA member in the future...which is VERY clear in the strike rules.
Ugh...confusing...bad time to be setting out with a script. :(
if you'd rather not answer this in the blog I totally understand. I hate to ask, but would you consider emailing me some very brief advice in this regard, if you'd not like to answer it publicly?

Thanks Joe!
Another great episode in Tabula Rasa, my congratulations! I am also looking forward this next weeks show.
And also congrats for your astute and discerning choice of college football teams. (GO Bows!!)
This weekend's game against Fresno State will hopefully bring Colt one more title to his long list. He only needs three more TD passes to take him past Ty Detmer for most career TD passes. If you guys are interested, the last three games should all be on ESPN, and there's a chance that this week's game may also be televised. Hope you're able to enjoy some of them.
And again, much thanks for what is turning out to be an excellent season of Atlantis.

Snicker, snicker...
Good news about the ratings - take that those who pettily and rather immaturely laugh when the ratings dip, LOL!
I think it's a shame that such a wonderful episode as DG got lower ratings. It was one of my favourite eppies so far, and as I remember the same happened to Sateda last season, which is also a fantastic episode. Sometimes there's no rhyme nor reason as far as ratings go. C'est la vie...
I missed Friday's episode. I wasn't home, but I can't tell you where I was. Top secret.
But I'll catch it tomorrow hopefully and report back. =P.
"Tabula Rasa" aka "Has anyone seen my stash"
The real story was that thay had run out of Pegasus Galaxy Pot and that was what was in the bags that Ronon brought back, they were mustered in the mess hall cuz hey we all get the munchies when we're on weed.
for the record I'm 100% Apocalypse...figures.
Apparently I'm Venom with Dr. Doom a close second.
Have you mastered putting in eye drops yet?
i dont understand how the anti season 4 people and generally bitter fans can say that season 4 was the worst, for one season 4 of atlantis is some of the most watchable and well written tv currently airing, it may not have the gigantic "24" esq budget but it still continues to deliver what it does, watchable, enjoyable storylines
with that being said do you mind answering this
Is Amanda tapping coming back? for season 5 that is, and can she be in more episodes then last season
Hi, Joe.
MGM Stargate has a brief article about Martin Wood directing Tabula Rasa at:

Dear Joe,

how about this mortal coil?
dear joe
will the pheonix be a spaceship a copy of the other earthships....such as apollo and daedalus?
thanxs
So Stargate Universe, is it still on schedule for next fall? Any other tit bits you can give us or do you know when a more formal announcement is planned?
Question: in regards to Sam's photo of Daniel in Atlantis - We have seen Daniel wear this tux before at an imaginary event. Was this photo taken at a similar, non-imaginary event?
Hope you are having a fantastic day!
I'm Mystique!!!
loved Tabula Rasa. The relationship between Mackay and Katie came across really well and very beleivable. it was nice to see mackay being so sincere and caring towards another person. (sorry, i'm just a hopeless romantic!)
Mya
My response was: “The janitor? Really?”
Hmm. Could be! :D
Oooh hey, have you had chance to see Season 3 of Dr Who yet? I think you said you were waiting for it to be released on DVD... I think the DVDs are released round about now? (Mine are on their way from Amazon as we speak! :D)
Hi there..
I'm assuming shrimp chips are the same as what we call prawn crackers over here..sorry down here in Australia. We also have an icecream sandwich called 'Giant Sandwich'. I remember them as a kid although they're not so giant anymore. Either they're skimping or Giant sandwiches haven't changed and it's just me getting bigger.
Can you add marzipan to that ban list?
Don't worry about the former fans and ratings.. they come across as rather fickle to me. If you don't like what someone did, why shun your enjoyment of the show altogether? Talking about cutting off your nose..
Enjoying season 5 although I do miss Paul G. Best bit is I get to see him again (yay).
You said: I would also like to campaign for the eradication of the following: halibut, sandals, kiwis (the fruit not the people)...
I say:
um, thanks :p I would be irked to wake up tomorrow morning to discover I've been annihilated ;-)
Really it should be those fluffy birds with the long beaks that you're looking out for....
You need someone in the writing room with you guys who actually understands the science of how things really work and can tell you when the psuedo-science bullcrap you guys think up is bullcrap. *sigh*
How can radiation from the main engine/drive at the rear of the Ancient warship in Travelers get to the bridge in the mid-section and yet Larrin is walking around in the area between??? Radiation moves in all directions until you block with something and does not jump over areas (like the area Larrin is in) to get to other areas (like the bridge.) Even though Larrin said she turned off the emitters to the bridge portion how is that possible? The emitters would be near the main drive in the back of the ship and would prevent any radiation moving forward and not to specific spots. Oh yeah, I forgot, if I can believe in instantaneous wormholes connecting planets and galaxies, why do I think any other parts of real science would be adherred to? *sigh*
If the Travelers have shield emitters, wouldn't you think the Ancients, a far more advanced race, would have them also and would be carrying them on the ship?
Please come up with more plausible scientific ideas and stop pulling them out of thin air. Fiction is one thing, but blatanly disregarding laws of physics is another matter.
Hello Mister Mallozzi,
Will we be seeing anymore ground battles in the future ?
Stargate SG1 showed a lot of great battles with different SG teams like the ones in Heroes or Forever in a day.
I'm with you on the shrimp chips, but have to draw the line on the ice cream sandwiches. I rather enjoy them.
Clearly it is time for Baron Destructo to finally implement his nefarious plans and take over the world.
So, Whats the dillio on the Stargate Universe show? Please enlighten us oh great one.
Or... Y'know... Let Cooper on for a round of answering some of those Universe questions us lower beings have been throwing around the net ever increasingly lately. :)
Looks like I am Venom as well. How interesting...Now, for my list of things we should ban for my benefit. :)
I noticed when you talk about he writing process you said it was a team effort for Stargate...do you think that's the case for other tv shows?
Have you ever visited http://www.eviloverlord.com/lists/overlord.html? It's a laugh.
Hi Joe,
Did Joe Flanigan do all the stunts in Doppelganger?
Thanks
Starhorse
While I enjoyed each of the three seasons so far I have to say, season 4 absolutely rocks. Yes, there were a few things here and there I would have liked to see play out differently but hey, you can't please *everyone* with *every* detail and so far you guys are doing an absolutely great job. Can't stress this enough.
Though if you'll allow a question...
Having just watched both parts of "The Return" again, I noticed the chain of O'Neill's dog tags is visible around his neck while Sheppard apparently doesn't wear any. After checking out other episodes for this detail I found that dog tags apparently are pretty much absent in SGA until they're needed to be shown for plot purposes (38 minutes, Coup d'etat) and I wonder why this might be the case. Was this an intentional decision and if so, what's the reason behind it, or did the costume departement just overlook this detail? Though I really can't imagine they would simply forget something like that when they where even thoroughly enough to put up ribbons on Sheppard's uniform ("Sunday") that actually make sense.
Hey, you might just rolling your eyes about someone being so obsessed with details, OTOH isn't it nice to know that people actually pay so much attention to the show? *g*
Hey ya Joe; got a question for ya. Any chance the Shankster will be reprising his role as DJ in S5?
It's nice to be back, sir. GeekBoy is proving to be a formidable foe when it comes to computer time, so until I get my laptop fixed, I have to be sneaky. He's starting to get wary...
Hey, Cheeky, I updated for you again.

Good et agréable day
Dear Joe,
excuse for this second entry but I must say that I agree with anonymus who ask to be carefull with physics laws. I try in English. For examples:
- A man is beamed out of the Prometheus but he can not survive one second in space, his blood is liquid and boils instantly (Company of thieves ep. 10-09 SG-1 and Farscape did the same mistake with Crichton in Look at the Princess, Part 2 ;
- same SG-1 ep, this man shoots but a gun can not fire in space where there is no oxygen to put the ignite the powder of the cartridge;
- there is no sound in space because it need air to travel, Firefly respected this rule when a spaceship was seen by the exterior there was silence in the same time no engines or explosions noises and it helped to feel the action.
On the other hand I know that we accept other things impossible as whormholes, decelarations, time travels etc.But those are scientific hypotheses. On the contrary, some others are certain.
1)Will some arguments/ill feelings between team members linger heavily throughout multiple episodes?
2)Will Tealc's presence have a profound effect on Ronon and his actions heretoafter?
Why did you guys have to kill off Kate Heightmeyer?
When Jeannie Miller (Kate Hewlett) appears again on SGA will she be bumped off too?
How many more characters are you going to bump off?
Please stop the insanity and stop the bloodshed of characters that once I start liking are being knocked off.
Fran
Well, there's a reason why Doppelganger ratings dropped, and it had nothing to do with how good or bad the episode was (it was very good, btw).
Surprisingly, I'm Venom. Not sure about the strength and adrenaline part, though.
I think I figured out why Heightmeyer was an expendable character. After seeing Tabula Rasa, I realized that Katie Brown and Kate Heightmeyer were almost identical characters personality-wise. They even looked alike. And even though KB is supposed to be McKay's love interest, I found myself wanting to squash her.
Hm, maybe Venom is correct after all.
Cheers

Thanks to your quiz I have discovered my true identity. I am DR. DOOM!!!!
I love Rodney/Katie. He is so sweet around her.
Loved how Radek reacted to the security forces. I find it hard to believe people were actually wondering why. Hello!!!, he grew up in a communist country and those security forces were something to be really afraid of.
I vote that we include MUSHROOMS to the list. I hate them!!!!
Yeah, I feel ya! Down with those ice cream sandwiches! Who cares if other people like it? Any chance we can ban 80s rock music too?

*sigh*
1. How d'you know the engines/main drive are at the rear of the ship?
2. How d'you know Larrin is between the main drive and the bridge?
3. The Travelers were using shield emmitters to protect sections of the ship. The radiation was still escaping from the main drive but could not enter the shielded areas. Larrin switched off the emmitter shielding the bridge area but not the emmitter shielding where she was.
4. What makes you think the emmitters are near wherever the main drive is? They're more likely to be near whatever area they are shielding. (I repeat, the emmitters are not somehow blocking the radiation at its source and preventing it from leaking, they are merely shielding specific areas from the leaking radiation).
John - I believe that if you submit a script during this strike you will be banned from ever joining the WGA. There was a comment at the bottom of this BBC article:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7074306.stm
On a different note, what the heck are ice cream sandwiches? Do they come with different bread options, i.e Rye, wholewheat, black, white brown and with/without raisins? :-)

Interesting... I have noticed that over the last few months their have been and number of similar posts about Katie (mostly by woman) that express similar sentiments. I wondered why and I think the answer is actually very simple.. Her character represents a more traditional woman (in the best sense of the term) in a show where the female viewers want only strong women characters who dress (no cleavage, bare midriffs, etc) and act like men.
Now before you reach for your keyboard, read for a minute.
If you take the six main characters of Atlantis, for the most part, they are totally interchangeable (well maybe not McKay but then again .. but I digress).
Change “Travelers” so the person in the jumper is not John but rather Sam or Teyla and hardly a line needs to be changed (might make the kissing scene more interesting to some of the fans but I digress again) .
I could go on with numerous examples but
I will leave that as an exercise to the readers. Take your favorite episode and swap characters and see how little the script needs to be changed.
Katie is different.
From the story line we see she is smart, got her education and experience in her field, was good enough to be selected for the Atlantis project and got McKay through personality and intelligence and not by beating him over the head with sticks and dragging him back to her room..
So enough of this Katie bashing because if you don't ....
She is really good with plants and herbs and the next time you drink your tea.. Well who knows?
I was reading on another site that Atlantis will not be affected by the writers strike, yet another SciFi show, Eureka, will be. Why is that? Aren't you both out of Canada?
By the way, I'm really enjoying this season...you weren't blowing smoke at us :o)
p.s. Apparently I'm Dr. Doom with Apocalypse coming in a close second. Do you suppose this has something to do with my impending plans for Armageddon (no, not a remake of the movie).
Je voulais juste souhaiter un super Anniversaire a Peter Deluise!!!

Now that we know that Brad is penning a third SG1 movie, and since I'm not too embarrassed to beg.........could you please, please, please, please ask Brad to throw in a few friendship scenes between Sam and Daniel? Believe it or not, there are fans out there that are Sam/Jack and/or Daniel/Vala shippers and STILL miss the friendship between Daniel and Sam!!
I don't think I'm asking for that much Joe. Just one or two scenes. All Brad has to do is write a scene (or two) and I'm sure Michael and Amanda can take care of the rest.
Dear Joe,
I understand your need to be as far away from ice cream sandwiches. I myself would like to have alcohol, cigarettes and drugs completely removed from the planet. But people will get drunk / stoned even if scientific studies have demonstrated that it's incredibly bad for their health. They will also try to drag you in, and occasionally become disrespectful and insulting when you voice your concern regarding said substances.
On a culinary note, I was in Valle D'Aosta (Italy) last week and got the chance to try a few local dishes that I can't find in my region. So, I wanted to know if you're familiar / have ever tried things like moccetta; polenta alla valdostana and cotoletta alla valdostana (thin schnitzel with ham and fontina cheese on top).
Cheers!
hello just a little question !
we can see the news promos fotos , hands 's sam are hide ! does she have secret ?
thanks
Glad to hear of Doppelganger's rebound, though, personally, I don't equate ratings with a show's value or quality. It's one of my favorite episodes of Atlantis, and I've seen 'em all. I'm still recovering from the heartbreaking Colts loss on Sunday, so I'm soaking up all the good news and humor I can get.

"So...will McKay and Katei Brown EVER actually kiss?"
NO...PLEASE I BEG OF YOU, NO!
I think I threw up a little bit in my mouth at the thought! McKay would surely succumb to hypoglycemic neuronal death if he were to again kiss the overly sugary sweet Katie Brown!

I saw the news on GW about DG :( I had a bit of a snuffle. I don't understand how such a great ep got such low ratings, but i'm assuming all wasn't bad on the demographics side of things. Maybe it had to do with a lot of people seeing it with the mix-up on ITunes? :shrugs: All I know is it made me very sad.
So anyway cheerful optimistic cheeky is not quite here today after hearing that. How can they be so low when it's Evil Shep *sniff* Sorry, *wipes her snotty nose on her sleeve as she has no hanky* I'm sure i'll be better tomorrow. :D
Anyway, moving swiftly on, I need to be cheered up... unless you want to stick the boot in? LOL What are the chances of Kolya appearing in S5? Maybe? Perhaps? Is there a smidgeon of a chance? You should know by now i'm not beneath begging, bribary or corruption. Take your pick. :o)
Thanking you Mr M.
*hugs*
I'm Catwoman first with a tie for Riddler and Dr. Doom just 1% behind.
Catwoman ----------47%
Riddler ----------47%
Dr. Doom ----------46%
COOL!!!

Hi Joe, LOVED The Return II from Monday night (NZ time)
re: eradication of ice cream sandwiches. I would also like to campaign for the eradication of the following: halibut, sandals, kiwis (the fruit not the people), Olives (the people not the fruit), French New Wave cinema, and, of course, shrimp chips. So come on, people. Let’s all come together and make this world a far less inclusive place for all.
The only thing from your list I would like to see eradicated is French New Wave cinema. also, for the record, I love brussel sprouts, broad beans and decaf coffee & tea. My sisters think I'm weird, cant understand why!!

Just out of plain curiosity, does the WGA strike affect the production of Stargate Atlantis?
there's an excellent article about that on gateworld.
Hi Mr. M,
Absolutely loved your post, and I completely agree -- if you don't like something, shut up about it and let people be!
I actually have a confession I wanted to make(and I think it's a good time): I was one of the many people who wasn't thrilled with the idea of Carter joining the SGA cast.
My thought was that every time the writers had put Carter and McKay in the same room in the past, all Carter ever did (and most of SG-1 for that matter) was beat him down. Even when SG-1 came to Pegasus and asked for his help, they still treated him like crap.
Thus, I thought that if Carter joined the SGA cast, what we'd see was episode after episode of McKay pining after Carter while she constantly minced no words in telling McKay where he could shove it.
After three years of making Rodney into a strong character in his own right and proving his abilities time and again, I had absolutely no idea why the writers would want this for the show -- but that was really the only result I could see of adding Carter to the cast.
Thing is, SGA had been my favorite show for three years, and I couldn't simply cut it out of my Friday night without even giving the season a try.
And you know what? I had no reason to be concerned. Heck, Carter and Rodney even worked together as EQUALS (granted with their memories wiped) in TR. And the whole relationship issue? Summed up in one ep. The end.
The reality is that even with all the changes, season 4 looks poised to be the best season yet, and while some episodes have been better than others, they've all be very very good.
So bottom line: to everyone who has it in his/her head that the writers are out to kill the show -- have a little faith and some common sense. From what we've all seen so far, it's readily apparent the writers are trying to give us the best they can, and they've delivered in spades so far. If you watched, you know that.
Best,
Jenny
Is the up-and-comer Martin Gero? If so, do you worry the ego boost will cause his head to explode and make a big mess? Oh well, at least then he'd only be interrupting himself on the commentary. :)
Heh. 77% Dark Phoenix, followed by 71% Venom (not so sure about that one!) and 70% Mystique. Awesome! :D
Your Browns are playing my Steelers on the 11th-they are going down.

There's an article on Solutions that talks about the third movie, season 5, and Stargate Universe. However, I had already heard that Chris Judge talked about it when he was at his last convention. It was reported that Chris mentioned the third movie and that it may interfere with filming 'Rage of Angels' if filmed in January. Michael Shanks was then asked about it in N.J. on Sunday and confirmed it.
Joe,
Please don't forget to pass on to Brad my *coughbeggingcough*

would you like your scifi/exploring/team eps vague as well, or does that only apply to things *you* don't like?
stargate has been including a LOT of different themes from the beginning, yet we still hear ppl saying keep the romance out of the show. unless the show is dealing with a team of spacefaring cauliflowers, i think romance will play a part in the stories.
sally :)
i'm 85% Dr. Doom, gifted but vain and 78% Poison Ivy, i go with poison ivy because i'm a woman, and as i love vegetals, i'll start a campaing to save kiwis (the fruit) and brussel sprouts

Hey joe!
I was wondering if you could help me out with a media studies project...
I need to know a couple of things, first: How do you release an episode (ie do u send it to certain companies who do such and such) and second how does an episode get leaked? (ie if iTunes leaks Doppleganger, couldn't you just not give them the episode until its meant to be released?). Lastly, what is DVR, and how does it distribute episodes? (yeah i could just google it but meh)
Thanks for any help! Take it easy

That would be, like, the most awesome comeback ever if I had any idea what you were actually trying to say.
At any rate I hope you finally beat your crippling addiction to sci-fi televison and that the liver damage and other horrible health effects that you have endured is halted. You should really think about putting in a group lawsuit.
God willing one day you'll be able to find the remote and move on to formulaic cop shows, the methadone programme of the television world. Stay strong little trooper, stay strong.
Go Bows!
What pictures does Sam have up in her office?
"On a totally unrelated front, I’m wondering if I can enlist everyone’s support in my drive to Have the Ice Cream Sandwich Discontinued." Scotty, disengage sarcasm drive.. Ohura open communications with the ascended being allah Mallozzi. SG-1 and SGA are two of the best shows ever,BUT I can see why some fans are losing interest, you create amazing characters and then eliminate them (I.E. Ford,Becket,Weir, etc). Its too bad the fans have no "impact on creative decisions". Because without fans where would SGA be?I hope SGA lasts 10 seasons like SG-1 or more, but if you keep eliminating key characters that fans love that is hard to say?P.S. good luck with the ice cream sandwich drive..never liked them and good luck with your Gospel CD
