So I was checking out Site Meter this morning and noticed that the total visits to this blog is creeping up to 665 000. As some of you many know, for the monumental 250 000th visit, I gave away a boxful of one-of-a-kind not-overly-toxic flocking (which PG-15 is no doubt treasuring as I write this entry). For the historic 500 000th visit, I gave away a tube of bonafide Ark of Truth/Last Man sand (which, I assume, is now safely tucked away under Pauline’s pillow for safekeeping and pleasant Atlantis-themed dreams). Now I wasn’t planning on giving anything away for the 750 000th visit, preferring to come up with something extra extra-special for my one millionth visitor - but I had an idea for a fun prize. It wouldn’t be as extra extra-special as the millionth visit prize, but more special than both the flocking and the sand. So extra special. Simply not extra extra-special.
I’ve decided that the special 750 000th visitor will win…
A virtual dinner with me! Yes, a glorious event that will allow me to combine to of my favorite things: eating and talking about myself. This is how it’ll work. 1) I announce the lucky winner. 2) The lucky winner and I agree on the date and time. I defer to the winner’s choice of food. 3) On the date and time in question, we meet here on my blog and have a wonderful virtual meal (complete with play-by-play pics of the dishes we’ll be virtually enjoying as the evening progresses) and an hour-long dinner conversation (essentially comprised of a real-time back-and-forth in the comments section). During this hour, I will not be approving anyone else’s comments but yours, you lucky extra special winner. 4) After the hour is up, I’ll pick up the tab, call you a cab, and then allow general comments.
Given the traffic, I estimate it’ll take a little over a month to hit the 750 000 mark, so start working on that scintillating dinner chat now!
Today’s blog entry was a little late as I was off having dinner with Carl for what could be the last time in a long while. He has finished up his producer duties on Atlantis’s fourth season and now heads back to L.A. where he will man the picket lines alongside his fellow WGA members. I certainly hope Carl lends some much-needed creative inspiration to those surprisingly uninspired placard slogans (“No Moolah, No Ha Ha”. Really? Is that the best you could do?). Alan suggested Carl’s placard should read “Broke-a-hontas “ and (according to Paul) include the addendum: “By the way, I was the writer of the Disney movie Pocahontas”).
In any case, here’s hoping the strike is settled soon for everyone’s sake and, in particular, all those viewers who will ultimately end up with nothing better to do with their evenings than read or talk to their loved ones.
Today's pics: Tonight's dinner. Carl enjoys some crispy squid while I savor my antibiotic.

Yay for Carl! Good luck to the WGA. (I work for a union.)
Also, yay for you. Congratulations on a staggering amount of visitors.
A virtual meal? That would be great - haven't been out for lunch or dinner for weeks.
Taxi from Vancouver to Scotland might be steep - but I could meet the pack (virtually speaking) and come home and drive the kitties nuts with all the virtual doggy smells.
Great idea.
wow I was beginning to think those antibiotics knock you out for good, although I must say, I never heard of antibiotics that make you sleepy.
I'm digging the scruff, Joe! And, best of luck to Carl!
If, by chance, the winner is a Vancouverite (I know there are tons of readers who are from around here...), would the dinner still be virtual?
What a fun idea, Joe! Well done on the creativity meter. ;-) I'm sure my odds are slim since I rarely post comments here - but good luck to everyone else! :-) ~Jennie
Lulu will miss carl I'm sure.
What happen to the new puppie?
Does this mean that Carl will not be involved with the production of Season 5 of Atlantis????
Also, I would love to be #750,000. How do you feel about authentic Thai cuisine?
Oh my, virtual dinner? and up to us to choose the venue? If this is the 750,000th prize I can hardly wait to see what the 1,000,000th will be. You do realize, of course, you may be single handly responcible for a steep decline in productivity as folks flock to the site to be the lucky winners.
Wishing Carl well, and hope that some sort of equitable deal can be struck in a time frame to mimimize the economimc damage to all parties. Meanwhile I'm selfishly glad that the strike is not affecting production north of the border, so that we can look forward to more teasers in the nature of the photos from yesterday.
I hope that the antibiotics are making life more bearable, and in deference to your suffering I'll not pester you with any questions today.
750,000 here we come! That's a great idea for the winning prize. In reference to Carl and the show, do you think that the strike will have a big impact on getting season 5 prepared, or will life go on as usual?
What will you do if the 750,000th visitor posts a message anonymously?
Hey Joe!
I saw this book today at the public library where I work. The title made me laugh out loud. It didn't remind me of you at all, Joe...no, no, it really didn't.
:p

I'd love to be your 750,000 visitor and experience a meal a la Joe Mallozzi.
howdy! howzit? how are the dogs?
Have they forgiven you for the halloween costumes yet?
There's a writer's strike? Really? Hmm...interesting...
I have a very big favor to ask of you. Would you please, please, please answer this very, very, very big question? (Sorry, I've seen these twomovies - Eloise at the Plaza & Eloise at Christmastime- like a 100 times and there's a character who repeats everything like three times. It gets stuck in your head.)
Here goes :
Where's Teyla's dad? Are we ever going to see him? (You didn't think that was real big, did you? Just wait for it.) Where's Teyla's mom? Where's Weir's parents? Where's Ronon's parents? Where's Sheppard's parents? Where's McKay's parents? Where's Zelenka's parents? Where's Ford's parents? Where's Beckett's parents? Where's Keller's parents? (Well actually, I don't really care if you answer about Keller, that character really bugs me.) And I already know where Carter's parents are. R.I.P. What happened to above-mentioned parents? And...what were their names? Thanks, thanks, thanks!
Tell Carl thumbs up for me...
... and if that doesn't make sense to you, read the email I sent you...
Is there really a counter that shows who visits your blog? I need to figure out how to get one of those for mine!
If this writer's strike goes on for a while will Atlantis be one of the few shows on air with new episodes or will they get pushed back until everybody else is back on air? Does this affect (positively or negatively) the show in any way?
Wait a second - we get to choose the venue?
Good lord, I hope I don't win (again); as I said a long time ago, I can hardly pronounce some of the food you eat. If I win, the best food you'll get is probably a hamburger and some fries...maybe a shake; and since there will be pictures, you'll probably have to actually order them and eat them (hey, why let them go to waste?) in order to get the needed photos. A horrible experience for your "advanced" palette, I'm sure.
No sarcasm meant.
Anywho, with Carl going down to LA, does that open up a spot for a temp-writer (just until Carl gets back) to fill for the beginning of Season 5 (i.e. are you hiring)?
Sorry for the second question (what can I say, I'm greedy) but this has been nagging at me- I was watching SG1's ep. Fragile Balance yesterday and I noticed that the credits said "story by" and "teleplay by" but no "written by". Does the combination of story and teleplay replace a written by credit? How does something like this work? On a lesser related note, I forgot how much I enjoyed that episode. I'm surprised I haven't seen that young actor around anywhere. Perhaps one day he'll chose to move to Atlantis ;) Just kidding.
Thanks!
Speaking of strikes, what about the Screen Actors Guild and the Directors Guild? Their contracts are supposed to expire next summer, and while that sounds far off, it's going to come right smack in the middle of filming for Season 5 of Atlantis. Will a DGA/SAG strike have an impact on the production?
Joe, if Carl doesn't mind you telling us, could you ask him where he'll be picketing? There's a fan support movement for the striking WGA members, and I imagine there are some SGA fans who would like to come out and show their support for Carl and his fellow guild members.
People can check out fans4writers.com for more info on fan efforts to support the strike. The site is still under construction, but efforts are already underway.
As a supporter of the writers, since I once aspired to be one, I plan on not watching any reality based or unscripted programing that the networks try to foist on me.
I also plan on not watching any more webisodes of anything until the strike is over.
On the bright side, if Numb3rs runs out of episodes due to the strike before SGA the perhaps more people will tune in to SGA later in the season.
Maybe more people will also watch cable programing like The History Channel and The TV Food Network or *gasp* perhaps even PBS.
BTW I just spend the last three days canning. I made Apple Butter, Mango Butter, Apple Jelly, and Orange Marmalade. I'm currently working on Green Pepper Jelly, and Red Onion Marmalade. I've never actually tried to do the Red Onion stuff before, so it should be interesting.
Joe,
Carl can't rewrite the "No Moolah, no ha-ha" with better inspiration. It's the writing that's on strike, remember?
Hi Joe,
Question: how come Joe F never takes his shirt off on a episode anymore?
Does his wife not like him doing it on the show anymore?
If it has to do with the squee factor we can handle it.
You're so daring. Taking the red pill and all =9.
Love the shirt by the way.
Hi Joe:
Glad to hear that you are enjoying your antibiotics. Lots of goodness in those little morsels.
You don't seem to talk about Mexican food. Are there any good Mexican restaurants in Vancouver?
Patricia
If I win I would like to dedicate it to my job, for if it wasn't so mind numbingly boring I wouldn't be forced to camp out at your journal inbetween mainlining twink and making stargates out of paperclips. But everytime I step through them, alas, I'm still in my office. I don't think the twink sniffing is working out.
Oh, for the one millionth prize you should give a kidney, a present both personal AND practical. Not saying it has to be yours mind you, that's what the extras are for. (Second thoughts - one of Joe F's ears! They seemed to have acquired a cult following of epic proportions and the Shep wumpers would be giddy with excitement).
Loved the placard bit, and good on Carl for getting out on the picket line!
Virtual dinner? Will it work like the pancakes and double fudge brownie ice cream Vala had in Crusade? :)
That would be truly wonderful, BTW. We could enjoy the dinner, and someone ELSE could gain the weight!
Hope your eye is better.
I'm also curious about Season 5. Will this cause a delay, or only if it goes on for some time, since a break was coming? I hope things get settled soon, because I really like Carl's episodes, so I hope he does write for season 5
Hello Joe!
Last night I had a strange dream with Stargate show... I need your help please!
""I was eating the dinner with my family in the dining room and my mother told me if I can to turn-on our "old" TV set and I asked to her, where was the new TV set that we had bought recently... She told me today begins a new type of emission of Stargate series... I was surprised, I hadn't any words for to express my happy and strange moment.
When I turn-on the TV set, the light of the dining room became in dark room and then the TV screen was showing a tv show about cooking and it was a green video images. Then the screen was in a excellent quality of light and beautiful colors. The dining room became lighted.
Then I was sitting in a chair watching the TV and then begins "The Ark of Truth" and Vala presents the show... she begins to explain the new type of technology for to watch the movie and then she appears like an hologram in my dining room with funny and beautiful hologram effects flying around the dining room..., and she begins to talk with me, and she knew all about me, and I asked to her how she could to know all this information about me, and she told me: Joe Mallozzi cans help me.
I couldn't believe what she was telling me... First I though perhaps she was joking with me, but she wasn't... I was very surprised about this strange moment... Joe Mallozzi helps me???""
Excuse me Mr. Joe, for this reason I am explaining to you my strange dream, I don't know, perhaps you can help me to understand its meaning. And I don't know what can I do if Vala appears again in a new dream... I am worried she knows all about me!!!
Thank you!
From your picture, your eyes look great! No redness? Good for you! I'm guessing the eye feels much better. I'm glad it seems to have cleared up quickly. I hate it when one of my eyes is bugging me. An eyelash in one of them drives me crazy!
Now the question you are avoiding from everyone:
Does the WGA strike affect SGA? Do your writers belong to WGA?
Thanks for the great blog! I bet somedays it's like a weight on your shoulders, and you just don't want to write it. I appreciate all your hard work, producing one each day!
Kimberly
Good luck to Carl XD
One more exam and ive finished my hsc!
Therefore I will have alot of free time before university applications(which can be used for commenting) ^^ YAY!
speaking of pocahontas... when are we going to see Oberoth sing???
Joe, I have a funny story for you (of the non-fiction variety):
Your Broke-a-hontas comment made me laugh just as my sister was coming into my room to talk to me. She took one look at the computer screen and said "I knew from your laugh you'd be reading that!"
Hi Joe !
Sooooo Cool your 750 000th prize, I want to win it now :D
Have a nice day !
Quilani
Hi Joe,
Can you tell us anything about the rumored 3rd Stargate DVD movie with Jack O'Neill by Brad Wright? Is it really happening? Anyways if it's not please bring back Jack for a couple of episodes next season? And I'll hold you to your promise about the reference to Sam's love life next season too...
If I am lucky enough to win your virtual dinner we should have this for dessert -
http://uk.reuters.com/article/oddlyEnoughNews/idUKN0753679220071108?feedType=RSS&feedName=oddlyEnoughNews&pageNumber=2&sp=true
So Carl not allowed to do any writing until the strike is over? I guess that means you'll have to pick up the slack Joe!
Dear Joe,
Virtual dinner . Brilliant and funny as usual. But have you thought that I could be the 750 000 and I will answer in French, because I can not chat in English during one hour with a great writer.
Or maybe it will be in Spanish?
Or czech ?
Or Bosniac ?
Or Danish ?
That would be funny, no ?
If so what will you do ? Ask for Asgard translator device, a Genii ambassador, a gene therapy ?

Ditto! I second everything that was said! :-)
Ahh...I was about to ask you privately if you were avoiding comment on the WGA strike.
Best wishes to Carl...and he should NOT take Paul's suggestion. "Broke-a-hontas" will most likely intrigue the media. When they ask about it, he can give the credit and further chat about the strike issues.
Virtual meal sounds like fun!
Sorry to say I've not followed through at the animal shelter. Making progress on my time management, however.
Salut Joseph!!!

Hey! I'm back from the NJ con and extended visit into Baltimore, MD with some friends. Had a fun time; Paul McGillion was lovely to meet in person, and so was Kate Hewlett. And being in the company of some very good friends from all over (one of our group came from England and is still here visiting with me) was a plus too. :)
So now catching up on your blog...sorry to hear about the eye! Ouch! Hope the antibiotics are helping. :)
Virtual dinner sounds like fun...I think we (should I miraculously win) should visit the Cheesecake Factory...lovely place in Inner Harbor Baltimore area...good food and of course the cheesecake is divine. :)
Joe,
What an interesting prize - a virtual dinner! The best of JM's world, all wrapped up with a bow! :)
If the Writers need help writing picket signs, I'm sure we can come up with something...uh...how about
And then [insert character name] said, " " because the WRITERS ARE ON STRIKE!

Maggie, I've seen Michael Welch, aka young Jack in Fragile Balance, in eps of Law & Order: SVU, NCIS, Cold Case, and NUMB3RS. If you get/watch any of those shows, he did a good job in them.
Don't panic me, I hate talking to my loved ones.
On a side note - Carl wrote Pocahontas? Dark Horse. Say, I don't suppose it was him making those mysterious phonecalls in "Ring", was it?
(Best of luck to him in L.A.)
P.S.What if the winner requests McDonalds? Will you:
a) Regret your generosity and become an embittered mockery of your former self.
b) Convene the villains and have the winner killed using only reconstituted beef and a clown costume.
Bon matin monsieur Joseph,
Ho! Quel humour rocambolesque j'ai ce matin ! )
Bonne journée
From what I read (re the writer's strike), WGA members who reside in Canada and write for Canadian productions can still write; however, Carl (on his off-sked time) has gone down to join everybody, which is good to hear. Hopefully the strike will get rectified before next year.
A virtual dinner is a interesting concept.

Cool! Is there going to be a third movie?
Please answer my questions. 1) When are the movies suppose to be compared to the Atlantis timeframe? Is it like Unending = Phantoms, Ark Of Truth = Echoes, and Continuum = Submersion? 2) Is there a important story arc for Sam in either of the movies? If so, which one? Thanks.
Ok, I’m seriously confused about the writer’s strike. If Carl is picketing in LA, then he can’t be writing, right? In chatting with the writers marching outside my building, they’re all talking about at least several weeks, if not months. And working in the digital release side of the music business, I totally agree with their demands. Digital is what’s helping to keep music afloat, not to mention my job, and writers need to stick to their guns when it comes to compensation for all New Media formats. This also has all sorts of ramifications for the actor’s contract coming up in June as well.
But when I ended up chatting with a producer from “Desperate Housewives”, who was picketing his own show, he didn’t seem too optimistic about a quick end. And by Tuesday the studio has already carted off all his shows trailers, which beyond being just plain rude, indicates the studios are really looking to duke it out.
So with the strike seemingly to last for a long time, where does that leave Carl, you and the other writers and producers for Season 5?
I was just wondering. Does the fact that some of us have to pay for episode downloads off of ITunes or elsewhere for the current season help with marketing decisions? (Evening/night shift, I'm never home. Plus my nineteen year old autistic son gets first pick on the cable use. Generally, it's not attached to the television/TIVO anymore.) It would make me feel a lot better about the two bucks a week if I knew it was helping preserve the show. LOL.
I was wondering how you calculate the 750,000 visitor. Is it the 750,000 person who leaves a comment, or the 750,000 person, who although they read your page, sits quietly on the sidelines?
While you guys are working on season five, do you look as far ahead as a possible season six?
Just a repeat from yesterday:
Heya Joe! Glad to see you're eye is doing better! Get it? Glad to SEE... Haha....?
Anyways, i'm also glad to hear that there are going to be some more deleted scenes in the season 4 set, and *shock* BLOOPERS! W00T! Double W00T!
God, this is going to sound bad, and i don't mean to sound like a picky patsy... But could you do me (us fans) a favor in regards to the season 4 set? Could you put in a word to Ivon, or whomever is in charge of it, that the fans would REALLY like to have the actor commentaries return?
I REALLY missed this feature from the season 3 set! Don't get me wrong, i love the producer, writer, and director's input (nothing beats a Martin & Martin commentary... Well except if it had an actor with them), but i (and others) love hearing the actor's perspective on how shooting went that day. Or in the case of David, what hells he was put through, hehe. But that would be it! I'd really love to see them return.
On to Tabula Rasa, wow what a good episode. It fit well with halloween week too! I'm glad to see scifi starting to repeat the previous week's episode before the new ones on friday. Hate to say it, but Flash Gordon was not the best lead-in in the world.
Oh, eye drops... the trick is to lean your head back until you're looking straight up, place the dropper right above your eye, and stare right at the tip of the dropper as you drop one into your eye. If you're looking directly up at the dropper, you shouldn't miss ;).
Logic
Do any of the team member cross any moral lines this season?
I have a request for season 5. If possible, I would love a scene with McKay and Daniel. I really enjoyed the small scene between the two of them in Mobius 1. Even though their characters were both (and Sam too) from the alt. timeline, you did a great job writing them.
I think it's still a toss-up on whether Michael/Daniel or David/McKay is the fastest talker. I think you said David is. I don't know Joe. I think Michael could give him a run for his money.
Good luck to Carl. Kudos to him for going. Jay Leno was on t.v. the other day handing out doughnuts to the writers that were picketing. He said it would probably cost him $700.00 a day. Jay was pretty funny. I thought that was really neat that he was doing that.
Me revoila =)
Gros bisou, Love you!!!! =) Bonne nuit en avance.
I hope this is a question you can answer... I'm sure that, as with any job, there are politics involved.
I was just wondering if can explain, from the perspective of a writer (and, I guess, a producer), the writers strike. We all know the general things that are going on... but not much more than that. Also, what is REALLY going to happen to all of the TV shows? Are we really going to be forced to interact with other human beings because there'll be nothing on?
I totally understand if you don't want to (or can't) get into it... but I just thought I'd take a chance and ask!
why is that you have never answer what is the reason that J. Flanigan does not want to take off his shirt anymore ?
I have under the impression that he is a very intelligent guy, and that is understandable to respect his opinion for the making of a scene, but WHY??
So, when he did it in 38 Minutes there wasn't a problem...it worked for the show, one thing we cannot say for the Doppelganger episode that looked absolutly rare to shock him on the stomach.
Hi Joe, what a great prize for the 750,000th winnner. If, but some lucky stroke of fate, it is me, I promise at least 3 things: no Kiwi fuit on your plate/side of the dessert; at lest 3 desserts to choose from and something chocolate-y for dessert.

If it has to do with the squee factor we can handle it.
I believe the reason that JoeF no longer takes his shirt off is that he (JoeF) cannot handle the squee factor!!
To be honest, it (squeeing) doesnt do much for me either!! Sorry :) Although there is nothing wrong with some bare skin.
hmmmm antibiotic.. looks more like you are putting on lip stick :o)
Okay is it possible to contract an eye infection over the internet?
I have been chosen to go on a one day screenwriter’s course at the BBC in Manchester tomorrow and at this moment in time I look like the Elephant (WO)man.
John Merrick eat your heart out.
I will try a warm tea bag tannic acid may help stop the infection. I just have to remember to take it off before I leave the house tomorrow.
Well done to Carl for supporting his fellow writers in their quest for better pay.
But surely unless the WGA have writing police, to stop them, can’t the writers just use their time off to come up with some really good scripts and finish those novels they always wanted to write?
Who’d have thought, 750,000 visits to your blog?
So many people who like eating vicariously.
Not to mention the scammers, who use the site as a ‘How not to scam’ tutorial.
Virtual dinner how low cal, low fat, low sugar and low taste. Will wine be served only I don’t think virtual hangovers are very nice?
Pauline
*waves*
Ooooh lots of talk about shirtless Shep tonight! I swear, I never said a thing. *adjusts her halo*
Dovil!Ewwwwwww! That's one whump I would not like! *shivers* Now Mr m, if you feel inclined to whump any other part of his body, i'm sure I wouldn't mind. As long as it leaves him nekkid under the infirmary blanket and intubated, not for me of course but our whumping friend SD, she's been so very patient bless her. And of course you need to do the defib scene again, but this time, sorry the shirt has to come off! Come on Joe, you know how I love realism in my eps, and sorry defibbing requires removal of said clothing. ;) Tell Mr F that he need not worry about the fangirls, i'm sure we'd cope! I'd even go out and buy some earplugs for those that don't won't to hear us squeeing. :o) See? Aren't I kind?
So moving swiftly on, what a great prize! Can I ask you something though? Is it a no holds barred type of conversation or will there be rules, like no snarking unless you snark first? :P I doubt you'd want to have a virtual lunch with me, i'm one of those weird fussy eaters who loves packet mash! LOL I blame my dad he used to bring them back for us when he used to go off on manouvers, and I i've eaten them ever since. *blushes*
Anyway glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. Antibiotics are just horrible especially the horse pill ones.
Wish Carl Bon Voyage and hopefully we'll see him back witing for S5? Maybe?
*hugs*
Oh and yeah for a blooper reel. :D
*does her happy dance*
Oh btw my SGA presentation went well. :D I took a leaf out of Carter's books and used an apple as props to explain wormholes. :D And may have converted an SG1 fan in the process. :D
A virtual dinner with you seems worthy of a millionth visit prize. I wonder what *that one* will be. hmm...
hahaha, "Broke-a-hontas." I like it! I hope the strike ends in the writers' favor. Best of luck to Carl!
Dear Joe,
Can you be a little more specific regarding BAMSR battle scene? tha nkyou
Oooh my... just think of the gastronomic possibilities of a virtual dinner....
Speaking of.. is there any foodstuff/dish you've always wanted to try and never yet had chance? Anything wierd and wonderful or prohibitively expensive?
Dovil said...
Second thoughts - one of Joe F's ears! They seemed to have acquired a cult following of epic proportions and the Shep wumpers would be giddy with excitement
Nonononono. You've got it all completely wrong. Whump is no fun without teh pretteh. Whumping comes with reset button ready-installed - permanent disfiguration would be filed under undesirable outcome. Besides, to paraphrase the whumpers' motto, "Whump Shep, not Joe". :D
Best wishes for Carl and all the other WGA writers. I hope the issue resolves quickly in their favor. I also hope they don't back down. Writers deserve their piece of the pie when it comes to DVDs and downloads. Here's hoping they get it.
On a happier note, can't wait till tomorrow night's episode. I have to ask, did the costume department make Teyla's leather coat or was that a purchase? I want one... :-)
Hi Joe
Carl looks like Paul Newman don't you think and he was one of the coolest actors ever.. he'd even look good on a picket line.. Glad SGA is not facing any problems because of the strike.. Very original prize for your 750,000 visiter.. Wow you're popular...
Take Care
Dori
Joe,
Would you resign as producer/show-runner/writer for Atlantis if you in return received two special chefs that could be trained in various cultural cuisines and what not of your choice to cook for you twice a day for 5 years at no cost to you?
To extrapolate: the chefs would be trained in the cultural leanings of your choice BEFORE the first day of the five years. Essentially you pick what styles you want them to specialize in and they come to you ready and able.
Joe,
What is your Cookie Monster email account? I tried using blog search to find it and didn't have any luck......
Thanks,

Hey Joe, This is my first question to anyones blog ever. Hope you feel special. I figured I would endear myself to you with a food question before I load you up with Atlantis questions. Let's talk comfort food. What's you favorite?
